Madras School of Social Work is an autonomous institution affiliated to the University of Madras. The college was established in the year 1952 to offer social work education. UG admissions 2020 at Madras School of Social Work

UG admissions at MSSW is open for the academic year 2020. Candidates who wish to pursue social work education can apply for B.S.W in MSSW. Mentioned below are the eligibility criteria, admission guidelines and selection process followed by MSSW for admissions into BSW or B.Sc Psychology course.



Eligibility criteria

Who can apply for B.S.W or B.Sc Psychology course in Madras School of Social Work? Interested candidates who satisfy the following eligibility criteria can apply for the UG courses at MSSW.

  1. Candidates must have a pass in Higher Secondary Board Examination conducted by the Tamil Nadu Government or any other equivalent examination accepted by the Syndicate, University of Madras. Students who have completed +2 from CBSE or any other board of education can also apply for the UG courses at MSSW.

  2. The upper age limit for UG admissions is 21 years as on 01.07.2020. A relaxation of 5 years will be given for differently-abled students and age relaxation of 3 years will be permitted for SC/ ST / DNC/ MBC/ BC candidates and woman candidates beyond 21 years.

How to apply?

Online application form for UG admissions 2020 at Madras School of Social Work is open. Candidates who wish to apply for UG courses have to fill and submit the application form online only. No other mode of submission is allowed at MSSW.

The online application form for UG courses at MSSW is available at the official website of MSSW. The cost of application form for UG courses is Rs.350/- Both application form submission and application form fee payment must be done through online mode. Remember, application form fee will not be refunded for any reason except in case of error during online payment.

Go through the prospectus before filling in the application form. Read the application form filling instructions carefully because any error in the details provided may lead to the rejection of the application form.

To apply for UG courses, click 'Apply Now' button in the UG admission page at the official website and register yourself with the mandatory details. Use Mozilla Firefox browser to fill out the application form.
The form will have separate fields like Name, Email, Phone number, Date of Birth, % of Marks and course preferences. While filling the name field, use capital letters with initials after your name. Give a space between your name and initials. Do not use dot/full stop or any other special characters.

Provide correct email id and phone number as further information regarding the admissions will be intimated only to the email id and phone number provided.

In the student community field, only Tamil Nadu candidates who belong to BC community can select BC. Candidates who belong to OBC category and BC community from Indian states other than Tamil Nadu should select the community as OC. SC/ST candidates from all the states including Tamil Nadu can mark the community they belong to.

Upload the soft copy of your recent color passport size photograph at the necessary box provided in the form. The image must be in jpg format with size less than 100kb.

UG applicants can apply for both BSW and B.Sc Psychology course in the same online application form. Once all the mandatory fields are filled in the application form, verify the details you have provided and click save button to submit the application form. Remember, the application form once submitted cannot be edited. Once the application form is submitted successfully, you will receive a confirmation via SMS and Email with your application reference number. You can log in using your reference number and find the PDF copy of your application form.



Payment modes of application form fee

After the application form is submitted, you will have the following 3 payment options to pay the application form fee. You can choose any one of the payment options.

1. Payment by Debit Card/Credit Card/Internet banking
Once you click save button after filling in the application form, you will get the payment options. Click 'Online' as the payment option and pay the application form fee by debit card/credit card/internet banking using payment gateway. Applicants who have paid the form fee through online mode need not send the hard copy of their application form to the college office.

2. Payment by Demand Draft
Once the online application form is saved successfully, click the payment option as 'Offline'. Take a print out of the filled-in application form available in PDF format and enclose a Demand Draft for application form fee amount calculated by the online process along with the hard copy of the filled-in application form and send it by post or in-person to the college office. The DD must be taken in favor of "The Principal, Madras School Of Social Work" payable at Chennai. This payment mode is accepted only for the applicants who reside outside Chennai city.

3. Payment by cash in the college office
After the successful submission of the online application form, you can choose 'offline' as a payment option. Take a print out of the filled-in application form available in PDF format and submit the hard-copy of the application in-person at the college office by paying the application form fee in the form of cash.

Selection process

There is no entrance examination for UG admissions at Madras School of Social Work. The applicants will be selected based on the eligibility criteria and the vacancy of seats allotted as per the reservation norms of the Government.

Once the online application form is submitted and the application form fee is paid, the college will check the submitted forms and will publish the list of provisionally selected/waitlisted candidates on the scheduled date at the official website of the college. The selected candidates will get an intimation email with details like reporting date and time for semester fee payment.

The provisionally selected candidates must report to the college on the given date and time along with their parents and pay the fees. Certificate verification will also be done for all the provisionally selected candidates on the day of admission counselling. The candidates who are waitlisted will get an opportunity only if the vacancy arises due to ineligibility or non-reporting of selected candidates.

As a part of the admission process, after the payment of fees, the selected candidates must surrender all the below-mentioned original certificates at the college.

  1. SSLC Mark Sheet
  2. Higher Secondary Certificate (+2 Mark Sheet)
  3. Transfer Certificate / Conduct Certificate
  4. Community Certificate (if applicable)
  5. Disability Certificate (if applicable)




Important dates

The online application form is open now. The admission process is likely to start from the first week of August 2020. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the admission schedule date will be announced later by the college after the appropriate instructions from the government. All the details regarding the admissions will be displayed on the official website of the college. Apart from the official display of notification in the website, candidates who have successfully submitted the application form for UG courses will also get intimation SMS or Email from the college regarding the admission schedule.
