How to get PhD admissions 2020 at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI)

About NABI

National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali is an autonomous Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India and first Agri-Food Biotechnology institute in India. It was established in 2010. In NABI, the core research areas are Agricultural Biotechnology, Food Biotechnology, Nutrition Biotechnology and Human Resource Development. The institute is working to develop biotechnological tools in the area of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Biotechnology to improve the quality of food and nutrition. NABI is a recognized centre to conduct PhD (Biotechnology) from the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad. NABI is offering admission in PhD Biotechnology and inviting applications. The course will begin in September 2020.

Details of the PhD Programme

Duration of PhD Course: The duration of the PhD is 5 years which can be extended up to a maximum of 7 years.
Area of PhD Research Work: PhD Biotechnology research area includes Agri-Biotechnology, Food and Nutrition Biotechnology.
Number of Seats: 05 nos. There will be a reservation of seats as per Govt. of India rules.

Eligibility criteria

  1. Educational qualification: The candidates must possess MSc/MTech in any area of life sciences/MPharma/ MVSc/ MBBS or an equivalent degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent score. A relaxation of 5% will be given to SC/ST/OBC/ PwD candidates as per the Govt. of India rules.
    Candidates those who have appeared, or will be appearing, in the final year or final semester of qualifying degree examination or whose results are awaited may also apply. Nevertheless, the candidate must fulfil the above criteria/requirements at the time of joining.
  2. Doctoral Fellowship or Admission Eligibility Test: Besides the above, to get admission in PhD programme the candidate will have to qualify a national level test for pursuing Doctor of Philosophy program, like a doctoral fellowship or admission eligibility test conducted at the national level by the University Grants Commission (UGC), or Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), or Department of Science and Technology (DST), or Department of Biotechnology (DBT), or any other Government recognised agency.

Fellowship: The PhD admission seekers will have to avail the fellowship from the different granting agencies like UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DST or DBT according to their policies and guidelines.

How to apply

  • Admission seeker must visit the official website of NABI for the official notification and complete details of Admission, Application Form, PhD course work.
  • Eligible candidates should fill the application form carefully and prepare a single pdf file by attaching all the required documents.
  • Documents to be annexed with the application are as given below:
    1. Matriculation Certificate (10th class) for proof of date of birth.
    2. Graduation final year/semester mark sheet and degree certificate.
    3. Post Graduation final year/semester mark sheet and degree certificate.
    4. Certification of NET Exam having own fellowship.
    5. Proof of fees submission

Any other documents aside from above-mentioned need not to be sent along with the application form.

The candidates will have to submit an application fee along with the application form. The application fee is Rs. 500/- plus GST @ 18% i.e. Rs 590/-. The candidates must deposit the above application fee directly in the institute's bank via Bank Transfer.

Shortlisting of candidates

The candidates will be shortlisted through an interview conducted via video conferencing mode. The purpose of the interview is to assess the student for his/her science aptitude and interest in a career in scientific research and development.

Important notes

  • Complete application in all respects in the form for Single adobe pdf file will be sent through e-mail only. Application sent through other modes will not be considered. There is no need to send a hard copy of the application.
  • Incomplete application form or in improper format may be summarily rejected. Hence, candidates are advised to download the prescribed application form from the official website of NABI.
  • The application form received after the due date will not be considered.
  • Short-listed candidates will be informed through e-mail for interview schedule.
  • Applicants are requested to fill the details in the application form carefully. Once submitted, no request for change will be considered.
