About IICD and M.Des.Craft and Design course

There are 20 seats for the two-year M.Des in Crafts & Design with a specialisation in Craft Communication, with two semesters in each academic year. Hostel accommodation is available for Indian nationals and those from SAARC countries, but not for NRI/foreign nationals. The spacious campus has academic blocks, computer labs, a library and knowledge resource centre, and conference rooms. There are fully-equipped workshops that provide hands-on training with relevant tools, such as for learning weaving, dyeing and pattern-making, working on metal, glass, wood and ceramics, etc.

The purpose of having the specialization of craft communication incorporated into the M.Des. course is to enable you to develop the skill of communicating through the craftwork that you design, whether it is through the medium of print and packaging or an exhibit put on display or even through an online sale. By experimenting and analyzing various aspects of what you learn, you will develop your own independent way of critical thinking. Additionally, you will not just be creating something from basic data, but also understanding the functionality of the materials used.

The career scope on completing a Master's program in Crafts & Design with a specialisation in Craft Communication is not limited to simply creating creative craftwork and innovative designs and setting up your own ventures or working with NGOs that are associated with craft communities. You can get a career opportunity as an exhibition curator in a reputed museum or Gallery that is dedicated to showcasing works of indigenous communities. Other career options are to work on designing packaging for a reputed brand's products, sketch out designs for the online marketing and sales of products and services in the sector, get job opportunities in a professional Studio, and so on.
