The National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), New Delhi, which is an autonomous organization under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has released the notification for admission to the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM-Executive) through distance learning mode for the academic session 2020-21. The courses have received approval from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

NIHFW PGDM-Executive courses

The Post Graduate Diploma in Management through distance learning is being offered in three disciplines. These are as follows-
  1. Hospital Management: 300 seats.

  2. Health and Welfare Management: 100 seats.

  3. Health Promotion: 150 seats.

Eligibility criteria

For all the above three disciplines, you should be a medical graduate. Those with qualifications of MBBS, AYUSH, and BDS are all eligible to apply for any of the three PGDM courses. Additionally, you must be registered with the respective Medical Council with experience of five years after graduation.



Study material and contact programs

The printed study material will be provided, with four parts to the course: Self-reading, internal assessment, theory component, and a practical component.

There will also be two contact programs, each over a period of five days, at NIHFW in Delhi for which 20 marks have been assigned. One is currently scheduled for November/December 2020, and the other in April/May 2021, with the exact dates to be displayed at the official website later. It is mandatory to give full attendance in the classes of the contact program and you can avail of limited hostel accommodation with prior intimation. Assessments

It is mandatory to submit hand-written assignments (not typed ones) within the scheduled date, otherwise there will be an additional fee for late submissions. Similarly, the Dissertation must be submitted on time, the topic to be selected during the first contact program. The final exam will be scheduled at the Teaching Block, NIHFW campus, New Delhi and the form for appearing for it will be available at the official website.

Certificate

Those who successfully complete the course will be awarded a certificate for the program and will get their mark sheet as well. In each of the disciplines, the student who scores the highest aggregate marks in the academic year of the exam will receive a medal with a certificate as the best student.

PGDM-Executive Hospital Management

The goal of the PGDM-Executive Hospital Management course is to train medical graduates to become efficient hospital managers who will manage various aspects of hospital administration related to the healthcare services, including HR, finances, materials, support services, patient care etc. Theory and practical modules are part of the 15-months' course and those who enrol are permitted to complete the course in two subsequent academic years in case they are unable to do so during the year they got the admission. While the medium of study is English, you can appear for the final exam in Hindi as well.

Curriculum: Four core themes will be covered, namely, Introduction to Management and Human Resource Development; Resource Management and Quality Control; Hospital and Health Care Services; and Patient Care and Support Services. There will also be a Dissertation Work.

Course admission fee: Rs.21,000/- including the first year exam fee and admission form.



PGDM-Executive Health and Family Welfare Management course

The goal of the PGDM-Executive Health and Family Welfare Management course is to train medical graduates to identify and analyze managerial problems that arise in the healthcare system and utilize various resources to effectively work on improving and developing the functioning of the system.

Curriculum: Three core themes will be covered, namely Principles of Management, Health Care Services, and Health Care Program Management, followed by a Dissertation Work.

Course admission fee: Rs.21,000/- including the first year exam fee and admission form.

PGDM-Executive Health Promotion course

The goal of the PGDM-Executive Health Promotion course is to train medical graduates to become professionals in understanding the concept of health and what are the various factors that play a role in it. You will be learning how to plan and followup on the promotion of health and dissemination of correct information such as those done through government schemes, such as the National Health Program (NHP) and the National Health Mission (NHM).

Curriculum: There are 11 theoretical modules and one practical module. The theoretical ones include the following: Basic Concepts of Health and Health Promotion, Reduction of Risk Factors of Non-communicable Diseases and Communicable Diseases, Planning, Designing, Monitoring and Evaluation in Health Promotion, Health Promotion and National Health Programs, Epidemiology, Health Statistics and Health Management Information System for Health Promotion, Health Promotion in Different Settings, Information, Education and Communication Strategies for Health Promotion, Advocacy in Health Promotion, Partnership in Health Promotion, Capacity Building for Health Promotion, and Gender and Health Promotion.
