India Alliance Call for Applications for India-EMBO Lecture course


India Alliance has launched India-EMBO Lecture Courses with European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) jointly. Interested candidates can apply for the lecture course. Read this article to know the details, eligibility, course structure, application process.

About Scheme

DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance (India Alliance) and the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) has joined hands and started a Lecture course named India- EMBO Lecture Courses in the year 2019. European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO is engaged in research in life sciences and particularly molecular biology. Under this program, every year India Alliance and EMBO provides fund for lecture course (not more than six) on life sciences lecture courses in India.

The Aim and Importance of the EMBO Lecture Course

The EMBO lecture courses are aimed to provide the fundamental concepts and varied knowledge on the given topic to the PhD research students as well as post-doctoral research students from various backgrounds so that they can understand a topic and enhance their knowledge. These courses will boost students learning on scientific research writing or grant application writing, presentation skills and job applications etc.

Benefits of this Lecture Course

The India Alliance and European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) provide funding support of €33,500 to organise the India-EMBO Lecture Course. Besides, India Alliance also provides INR 5.5 Lakhs (~ €7000) for travel grants, childcare support and training workshops. The India Alliance-EMBO fund can be used to hire a trainer if required.

Support to Organisers

EMBO also support organisers and meetings. It creates a dedicated webpage for lecture course which includes registration and abstract submission forms, provides poster and helps in advertising in print as well as social media.

Structure of India-EMBO Lecture course

The course will include lectures including general as well as scientific research lectures delivered by the experts, posters and oral presentations by the students, other relevant research activities such as journal clubs; reviewing of manuscripts; career options; and where, when and how to apply for post-doc positions and fellowships etc. and in the case and if required, practical training.

Total Strength of Participants:Considering the ratio of speakers to participants (1:5), the number of participants will not be more than 120.

The Venue of the EMBO Lecture Course: The lecture course will be conducted in India.

Duration of Lectures: The lectures will be delivered between 3-10 days including group discussion, presentations, poster sessions, journal clubs, and reviewing of manuscripts will be done during this period only.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications must meet the following criteria to be accepted:
  1. Applications for lecture courses must include a topic from the life sciences.
  2. Indian, as well as international scientists from anywhere in the world regardless of their nationality, are eligible to apply for this Lecture course.
  3. It is necessary that these lecture courses must be held in India.

Application Procedure

The applicants must visit website of India Alliance to get more details about the program. To become eligible for EMBO course organiser the applications must be submitted via the EMBO online system. Applicants must include the following details in his application like Reason for the meeting, details of previous similar meetings, detailed information of organiser, description of the location, list of speakers, details of networking activities, scientific writing, grant proposal writing, presentation skills, job applications, draft budget etc. If a trainer is required for the courses, the applicant can also add it in his proposal being sent with the application.
After the receiving of application for this EMBO lecture course, selection of the applicants for funding purpose are done by the EMBO Course Committee and selected applicants are informed through email.

Applications are accepted twice a year i.e. 1 March and 1 August.
