This appears to be a good opportunity for the students who have studied History, Social Sciences, Economics or Political Science during their higher studies and can take advantage of that background academic knowledge to apply for this prestigious scholarship. As mentioned by the author it would require a proposal from the student which would be culminated in the book form at the end of the scholarship period. So the selection of the topic for the said purpose would be the first thing that an aspirant has to make and then elaborate it to make an exhaustive proposal containing some salient issues or problem areas or their effect on the society in post independence India. In last 72 years there have been many social, economic and political changes that happened in our country and that has affected the lives of masses in myriads of ways and there is a lot of scope of studying those aspects and their outcomes for the benefits or setbacks for the society at large. The student through his or her proposal can highlight some of the specific issues related to topic chosen and can then describe the activities that happened during the past 72 years connected to the topic. It would be prudent to give ideas for the betterment and welfare of the society also based on the learning curves of past decades. So an applicant can think on those lines to make an impressive proposal which is near to the ground situation in our country and can become a base for a composite publication at the end of the fellowship.
Yes, the fellowship is a good and special opportunity for the history student, because there are lots of fellowships and scholarship scheme for science, engineering and medical students. But this fellowship gives chance to students of history so that they can utilize their knowledge to write some good work on the history of independent India that will be published as a book.
