How a teacher should appoint a class monitor

In this article, I have mentioned some of the ways teachers could appoint a monitor in class. The teachers should provide opportunities for every student so that they learn the art of monitoring. The teachers should inculcate leadership qualities in students and teach them to become great leaders.

We often recollect the memories of our school days. Every teacher appointed a monitor in the class and these students always supervised the class. We also vividly remember that monitors were often authoritative and bossy with the other students. When the teacher went outside, they stood on the platform and insisted the students remain silent. Some of them even spanked the other students when they did not obey their orders. Usually, the toppers and the most aggressive students in class became monitors. Some students always dreamed to become monitors but were not given opportunities. Some people, who regularly became the monitors in the class feel proud when they recall those days.

How should a teacher appoint a monitor for the class?

Teachers usually select a student who is aggressive and clever. Some of the students who are clever, but are less aggressive are ignored. These monitors supervise the students in the class during the academic year and usually develop a superiority complex because the teacher always appreciated them for every task while ignoring the other students. The teachers usually permit them to open the cupboard and place the books in the class while other students are not permitted to open the cupboard. Why are smart and aggressive students always given opportunities and not the other students? The teachers should develop the right attitude towards the students. They should also give opportunities to other students also. They should not only consider the examination marks or their aggressive qualities but also provide opportunities to students who are timid also. Even the poor performers should get an opportunity to become a leader.

The quiet-clever students are often ignored

The teachers should give an opportunity to students who are less aggressive but clever. These students are often ignored by the other students and teachers. Some students who are too studious are sensitive and shy. The teachers should take special care of these students. These students are skilled but can develop confidence if the teachers give them special opportunities. When they learn to monitor the students, then they automatically develop confidence.

Appointing democratic leaders

The teachers should also choose students with leadership skills. People appreciate the style of democratic leadership and teachers should choose students who are diplomatic and win the hearts of other students. These students can inculcate better leadership qualities and become great leaders in the future.

Opportunity to all students

Every student in the class should be given an opportunity to monitor the class. One student can monitor the class for a week or a month. Then, the other students in the class should be given opportunities. The teachers should appoint new leaders every week or month based on their allocated roll numbers. Every student can use his or her leadership skills and discover their personality. Some of the teachers appoint monitors for maintaining the cupboard, monitoring Tiffin bags, row monitors, and a class monitor. Every student can get an opportunity to become a leader. The teachers can randomly provide tasks to the students.

Inculcating leadership qualities among students

The teachers should inculcate the qualities of leadership in students. They should also teach the students to build teams and manage different aspects of the class. The students often remember the teachers who always supported them. Some students, who become successful in the future, meet their old teachers and salute them. Some of them even frankly admit that they are successful because the teacher taught them the greatest lessons of life.

A good article from the author. We used to have class leaders in our primary and secondary schools. Those days becoming a cross leader is considered to be a privilege and prestige. The class teacher used to appoint the class leader. He used to appoint the second leader also. In the absence of the class leader, the second leader used to control the class during the period changes. The first rank student will be the leader generally. The second rank student will be the second leader. But some teachers used to go by the attitude of the student also. The concept leader will be useful to develop confidence and leadership qualities in the students. Some teachers used to change the leaders once in 6 months and used to appoint the next best rankers as the leaders.
