JNTU Hyderabad undergraduate and postgraduate admissions 2020

Since 2005, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad has been a popular destination for students from foreign countries. Even children of Indian descent residing in foreign countries apply at JNTUH for its various programs. Directorate of University Foreign Relations (DUFR), JNTUH looks after the educational needs and welfare of such foreign-based students. The directorate has its own website at www.jntuhdufr.com.

In a recent notification dated 18 July 2020, the university has published the revised dates for application to its undergraduate and postgraduate programs by Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries (CIWG), NRIs and Foreign Nationals. This new notification overrides the earlier notification by the university dated 30 June 2020. The courses on offer and other relevant details are given below.



Courses on offer

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad invites applications from foreign students for the following undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various disciplines of science, engineering, computer applications, management and social sciences. The admissions are for the academic year 2020-21. Find here the duration of the courses and their eligibility criteria.

  1. B.Tech: A four-year program, the candidate should have passed 10+2 with physics, math and any one from chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology or a Technical Vocational subject, with at least 45% marks in aggregate.

  2. B.Tech IDP (Integrated Dual Degree Program): This is a five-year course and the eligibility criteria is the same as required for the above B.Tech course.

  3. M.Tech: A two-year program, the minimum requirement is a degree in the relevant field of engineering with at least 50% marks.

  4. M.Sc: Course duration is two years and the minimum qualifying criteria is a bachelor degree in the concerned discipline.

  5. MCA: A three-year course, it requires a 3-year bachelor degree with mathematics in 10+2 or in graduation.

  6. MBA: This course is of two years duration and requires a 3-year bachelor degree with at least 50% marks in graduation.

  7. M.Pharm: A two-year course, the minimum qualification is a bachelor degree in pharmacy with at least 55% marks.

  8. M.Phil: A two-year program and the minimum requirement is a postgraduation degree in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks in aggregate.

  9. PhD: A three-year program and the criteria is the same as for M.Phil.

Wherever the marks are not in percentage, it will be converted to an equivalent GPA.

Important dates (Revised)

The revised dates are as follows-
  • Last date for UG applications – 18 August 2020
  • Last date for PG applications – 01 September 2020
  • For M.Phil and PhD applications – anytime in the year

Selection criteria

The students will be selected based on their scores in any one of the tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, GMAT or JNTUH-ELT. International students who have been sponsored by ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) can avail direct admission. The candidates will be notified about their selection soon after the processing of their applications. Selections will be based on merit and the availability of seats. A call letter will be issued to the selected candidates. Foreign students who are already residing in India and have appeared the EAMCET or any other PG entrance test will have to wait for their entrance test results.

Fee structure

The tuition fee structure for the various courses is as follows. The fee structure given is the per annum fee in US Dollars.
  1. B.Tech/ B.Tech (IDP) – 3500
  2. M.Tech/ M.Pharm – 4000
  3. MBA /MCA/ M.Sc – 2500
  4. M.Phil/ PhD – 4000

Additionally, the foreign students will have to pay a one-time registration fee and development fee, which is 200 and 1000 US Dollar respectively.

Students from SAARC member countries will get a discount of 50% in tuition and development fee.



Scholarships or grants, if any

JNTUH does not provide any scholarship to its international students. The Government of India, however, does provide some scholarships. To avail them, the students will have to approach the Indian Embassy at their respective countries. The students may also communicate with the Director, Indian Council for Cultural relations, I.P. Estate, New Delhi – 110110 for any possible scholarship. Details of some likely scholarship can also be obtained from the UNESCO Handbook for Study Abroad.

Part-time employment

International students are not permitted any part-time work while studying at JNTU. However, a student who have been detained can take some kind of part-time employment after taking due permission from the university as well as the city Police Commissioner.

Regarding English coaching

Since all the courses will be in the English language, it is mandatory for every international student to have some proficiency in the language. They will have to appear for an English Proficiency Test within one year of taking admission to the university.

Following category of students are, however, exempted from appearing for the above proficiency test.

  • Those from English speaking countries.
  • Those who have passed the qualifying exam in English medium.
  • Those having passed ELICS course with a minimum of B+ grade.

Those not proficient in the English language can avail special English coaching classes provided by the English Language Training Centre on payment basis.

How to apply

For applying for the UG and PG programs at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, the aspiring students will have to visit the website of Directorate of University Foreign Relations, JNTUH. Detailed guidelines are given at the above website for the admission of foreign students in JNTUH. For easy reference of the candidates, the detailed step by step procedure is given as follows=
  1. The candidates have the option of applying online at the above DUFR, JNTUH website or download an application form for their respective category, whether PIO, CIWG or FN, and send the filled-in application form to the following address -

    Even while applying online, the candidate will have to mail a physical copy of the application form for confirmation and final processing.

  2. For UG and PG courses, the applications to reach the university office by the last date of submission. M.Phil and PhD candidates can take admission at any time of the year.

  3. Along with the filled-in application, the candidates will have to submit certain certificates and documents listed at the end of this article.

  4. After the applications are processed by DUFR, the eligible candidates will be sent a 'Call Letter'. Foreign nationals can use the Call Letter for obtaining their student/research visa from the Indian embassy at their place. PIO and CIWG candidates will not require any visa. The visa is to be endorsed to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad.

  5. After obtaining the necessary visa, foreign nationals to send a written letter along with a registration fee of 200 US Dollar to the Registrar, JNTUH as a confirmation for attending the final admission process. PIO and CIWG candidates to send the written confirmation letter as soon as they receive the Call Letter.

  6. After the candidates come to Hyderabad, India, they will physically present themselves to the Director of Foreign Relations (DUFR). They will have to produce their original certificate and documents for verification. After verification and payment of necessary tuition fees, the student will be allotted with a 'Firm Letter of Admission' to the concerned department or college for joining the program.

  7. The student will have to then obtain a bonafide certificate from the college and then register with the Foreigner Regional Registration Office. A residential permit will be issued from this office, a copy of which is to be submitted to the university office at the earliest.




Application fee

An application fee of Rs 1,000 is to be paid in the form of a demand draft drawn in favour of 'The Registrar (UFR account) JNT University Hyderabad' and payable at Hyderabad. The demand draft is to be sent along with the filled-in application and other relevant documents.

Documents to be enclosed while applying

  • Two copies of mark sheet of 10+2 or equivalent for admission to UG programs. Provisional certificate, if any, to be submitted too.
  • Two copies of mark sheet and certificate of the bachelor degree, for admission to PG programs.
  • For M.Phil and PhD programs, submit 2 copies of mark sheet and certificate of the master degree.
  • Date of birth proof (Class X certificate or any other valid proof)
  • Score sheet of TOEFL/GMAT/IELTS/SAT, if any
  • Two copies of the passport
  • Two passport size photos of the student
  • PIO/OCI card, in case of students of Indian origin

The above certificates are to be attested either by the Indian embassy or the Ministry of Education at the student's country of residence. The student may also get them attested at his/her country's embassy/mission in India.

CIWG candidates have to additionally enclose a few more relevant documents as listed below -
  • Certificate of proof that parent is working in a Gulf country. (format is given in website)
  • Copy of parent's passport
  • Copy of parent's visa
  • A letter from the embassy (format given in website)
  • Copy of the labour card or work permit of the parent, as issued by the Ministry of Labour
  • Last six months bank account statement
  • Transfer or migration certificate of the candidate
  • Proof of at least 5 years of education out of the last 8 years of stay in a foreign country. 11th, 12th and the qualifying exam should have been passed from abroad

Students aspiring to undergo the M.Phil and PhD programs have to additionally obtain a 'No Objection Certificate' from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, soon after they receive the Call Letter from DUFR, JNTUH. After obtaining the NOC only they should report to the university for joining their respective program.
