The National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI), Vadodara invites applications for its undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA course for the academic year 2020-21. Due to the current pandemic, the last date for submitting applications has been extended to 9th August 2020.

Overview

NRTI is a Deemed-to-be-University which was established by the Ministry of Railways, Govt. of India, and held its first academic session two years ago. All the courses offered by NRTI are related to transport with multidisciplinary curricula that have been designed with feedback from Indian Railways. Each course will have three main aspects, foundation learning modules that teach the basic concepts, mandatory core subjects that are associated with the field and electives that will focus on a specialization. The academic training will be supported with industrial collaborations and a superb opportunity to get access to the model rooms and workshops of Indian Railways. Eminent academicians and professionals from the industry are on the faculty. Financial assistance is provided to students on the basis of their rank in the entrance test, with tuition waiver and hostel fee waiver as per the gross family annual income and a percentage of the seats available for financial aid is reserved for female candidates.

At present, NRTI does not have its own campus and is functioning from the campus of the National Academy of Indian Railways (NAIR) in Vadodara. While the undergraduate courses are residential ones, those who are pursuing postgraduate courses are allowed as day scholars. As of now, hostel accommodation for the students of the first year of an undergraduate courses have been provided hostel accommodation off-campus and only second-year students are staying in the campus hostel.



NRTI UG programs

There are 125 seats for the BBA and B.Sc. courses, and 60 seats for the B.Tech. courses.

Eligibility requirements

  1. BBA in Transportation Management: 10+2 with Maths (all Streams).

  2. B.Sc. in Transportation Technology: 10+2 with Maths (Science Stream).

  3. B.Tech. in Rail Infrastructure Engineering: 10+2 with Maths, Physics and Chemistry (science stream) and a valid JEE Mains 2020 score is mandatory.

  4. B.Tech. in Rail Systems & Communication Engineering: 10+2 with Maths, Physics and Chemistry (science stream) and a valid JEE Mains 2020 score is mandatory.

Marks in the qualifying exam for all the courses: You should have completed the 10+2 Board exam with at least 55% marks (50% for OBC/SC/ST).

Age criteria: You should be below the age of 25 years as on 1st August 2020.

NRTI UG program fees

The fee structure is shown in the table below. The fee with requisite deposits should be paid annually at the time of admissions for the first year and at the start of the academic session for the subsequent years of the course.

NRTI PG programs

There are 100 seats for the postgraduate programs.

M.Sc. programs

  1. M.Sc. in Transport Technology and Policy

  2. M.Sc. in Transport Economics

  3. M.Sc. in Transport Information Systems& Analytics

  4. M.Sc. in Railway Systems Engineering & Integration - This is an international degree program in collaboration with University of Birmingham, UK. Note that no financial aid is provided for the second year of this course).

For all the above M.Sc. courses, the eligibility criteria is Bachelor's degree in any discipline with Maths or Statistics as one of the subjects, with aggregate marks or CGPA/CPI of at least 55% (50% for OBC/SC/ST). There is no age criterion for admission to these PG courses.

MBA programs

  1. MBA in Transportation Management

  2. MBA in Supply Chain Management

For both the MBA courses, the eligibility criteria are the same as for the M.Sc. courses mentioned above.

NRTI PG program fees

Like for the UG courses, the PG course fee with the requisite deposit should be paid annually at the time of admissions for the four years of the course and at the start of the second year for that year's fee.

NRTI Entrance Test general information

Those interested in applying for admission to the undergraduate BBA and B.Sc. courses have to appear for the NRTI UG Entrance Test, while those seeking admission to the UG B.Tech. courses will be selected on the basis of the JEE-2020 Main Exam scores. In the case of the postgraduate programs, students have to appear for the PG Entrance Test and those who are shortlisted have to appear for a subject test followed by an interview. Their overall results will then be considered for admission. For MBA courses, those who have valid CAT (2019), XAT (2020) or MAT (later than May 2019) scores may be exempted from the PG entrance test. Those who are shortlisted on the basis of their scores in the NRTI PG Entrance test or in the CAT/XAT/MAT as mentioned will then appear for a personal interview. The overall results will then be considered for admission. Reservation of seats for all courses will be as per Govt. rules.

Note: A sponsored candidate is also required to appear for the entrance test and work experience will not be a criterion for being exempt from any of the eligibility requirements or getting relaxation for admission to any course.

NRTI Entrance Test format

The entrance test for both UG and PG courses will be a computer-based one in English only of 90 minutes' duration with 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Each correct answer will be assigned one mark and a negative marking of -0.25 will be assigned for every incorrect answer.
For B.Sc. and BBA UG courses, the sections are - Proficiency in English Language (25 questions); Reasoning & General Intelligence (30 questions); Quantitative & Numerical Ability (25 questions); and General Awareness (20 questions).

For M.Sc. and MBA PG courses, the sections are - Language Comprehension (20 questions); Mathematical Skills (20 questions); Data Analysis & Sufficiency (20 questions); Intelligence & Critical Reasoning (20 questions); and Indian & Global Environment (20 questions).

NRTI online application procedure

Applications have to be submitted online through registration at the official NRTI online admissions' application website . Separate registrations should be made for each course via the links given at the afore-mentioned official website. The first step in the registration process is to provide your name, age, and contact information, namely an email ID and mobile phone number. On registration, you will get an SMS alert of your log-in ID and password with instructions to complete the online application procedure.

After submitting the required details, such as educational qualifications, you have to select the UG or PG course for which you are seeking admission and are allowed to give an order of preference as well in case you wish to apply for more than one course. Then upload the relevant documents, including your photo, signature, mark sheets, etc. Select two options from the list of cities to take the entrance test (refer to information on the entrance test given earlier to know who is exempt from taking the test). The payment of the application fee for those who have to appear for the test is to be done online. The fee is Rs.500/- for GEN/OBC/EWS candidates and Rs.250 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

On successful payment, the application procedure has been completed and you will get an intimation via SMS and email to confirm the payment and an application number will be given. You can download the Admit Card as per the schedule, take a print out and carry it with you to the test centre on the date of the entrance test.
