The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University(TNAU) is one of the top agricultural universities established in the state of Tamil Nadu for education, research and developmental activities in the field of agriculture, horticulture and its allied areas. The University has 14 constituent and 28 affiliated agriculture colleges in Tamil Nadu. As per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), GOI, TNAU is ranked as the second state agricultural universities in India. Other than the regular UG, PG and Doctoral degree programs, the university also offers various diploma, PG diploma and skill oriented certificate courses in agriculture through distance education under the Directorate of Open and Distance Learning. Interested candidates can learn the culture of agriculture by joining the TNAU.

TNAU UG admissions 2020

Admissions are open at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore for the academic year 2020. Candidates who wish to join UG courses at any one of the constituent and affiliated colleges of TNAU can follow the eligibility criteria and the online admission guidelines mentioned in this article to apply for UG admissions 2020.



UG courses offered at TNAU

The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University offers various UG degree programmes on Agricultural Science and Agricultural Technology. Nearly 10 UG programmes on agriculture and its allied courses are conducted by the departments of TNAU. Mentioned below is the complete list of agriculture courses offered by TNAU.

Eligibility criteria

Who can apply for UG admissions at TNAU? Interested students who satisfy the below mentioned eligibility criteria can apply for B.Sc. or B.Tech. agriculture programmes offered by the TNAU.

  1. Candidates must have passed all the subjects in the qualifying examination with 10+2 years of schooling under the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Board of Education or any other equivalent board such as CBSE, International board or other state government boards.
  2. It is mandatory that the candidates must have studied (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology) or (Physics, Chemistry, Biology with any elective subjects such as Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Computer Science and Home Science / Nutrition and Dietetics ) or ( Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology) in their higher secondary(+2) classes to get admissions into all the B.Sc. degree programmes and B.Tech. Biotechnology programmes offered by TNAU.
  3. To apply for B.Tech- Agricultural Engineering/Food Technology/ Energy and Environmental Engineering courses candidates must have studied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Computer Science in their +2 class.
  4. The university expects the students to have minimum qualifying marks in the higher secondary board examination on all the required subjects (mentioned above in the eligibility criteria point no 2 and 3) to apply for B.Sc. and B.Tech. agriculture programmes of TNAU. 50% aggregate marks of all the four required subjects is needed for the candidates who belong to OC, BC and BCM category to apply for the agriculture degree programmes. For the most backward class candidates, the minimum qualifying marks required is 45%. A pass in the qualifying examination with the four required subjects is enough for the SC, SCA and ST candidates.
  5. The maximum number of permissible attempts to pass in +2 final examination for SC, SCA and ST candidates is 3 and all other communities is 2.
  6. Only candidates who have not completed 21 years of age as on 01.07.2020 can apply. However, there is no age limit for the candidates who belong to SC, SCA and ST candidates.
  7. Only candidates of Tamil Nadu nativity will be considered for admission. Tamil Nadu candidates who have not completed their 10th, 11th and 12th standard I Tamil Nadu must produce a certificate of permanent residence in Tamil Nadu in the prescribed proforma (Appendix VII) issued by the competent authority.
  8. Candidates who have passed higher secondary course under vocational stream are not eligible to apply for admission in TNAU. Also, they are not eligible to apply for both counselling quota and management quota under affiliated colleges of TNAU.

How to apply

Eligible candidates who wish to apply for the UG courses offered by TNAU have to submit an online application form. No printed application form will be issued. The University accepts only online application forms.

The TNAU online application form for UG admissions is available at the official website of TNAU. The candidates have to first register themselves and create a candidate account by submitting their name, date of birth, email, aadhar number and mobile number. After successful candidate registration, the candidate will receive a user id and password to the registered mobile number and email. Using the received user id and password, the candidate can login and fill the online application form.

Provide correct details while filling the online application form. Follow the application form filling procedures as mentioned by the University.

The application form fee for SC, SCA and ST candidates is Rs. 300/- and for other category candidates the form fee is Rs. 600/- The application form fee must be paid online using the payment link provided in the online application form.



Selection process

After the online application forms are submitted, the university will process the application forms and publish a rank list. The rank list will be created based on the aggregate marks scored by the candidates and their date of birth. Once the rank list is published, the candidates will be called for counselling through SMS or Email. Calling for counselling does not guarantee a seat.

All the shortlisted candidates called for counselling must pay a non-refundable counselling fee of Rs 2000/- through online. For the SC, SCA and ST candidates, the counselling fee is Rs 1000/- The candidates will be eligible to attend the counselling on the specified dates only after the successful online payment of counselling fee. Candidates who have not paid the counselling fee cannot attend the online counselling.

The selection process for UG admissions is done only through online counselling. Candidates can select their course and college by attending the online counselling. All the vacant seats will be filled as per the reservation norms of the government. The candidates will get a seat only if a vacancy is available.

After the online counselling, candidates will be called for certificate verification. Before coming to certificate verification at TNAU, candidates must pay an admission fee of Rs 20,000/- through online mode. The allotment letter will be downloaded only after the payment of the admission fee. The amount paid as admission fee will be adjusted in the first-semester fee. Paying the admission fee does not guarantee the confirmation of seat. The confirmation of admission will be done only after the certificate verification process.

A provisional admit card will be provided to the candidates after certificate verification. To confirm the seat allotted, all candidates have to submit their original certificates at the college after the verification of their certificates. Once the provisional admit card is issued, candidates cannot refund the admission fee paid.

The university has all rights to cancel the admission if they found any information submitted by the candidate is incorrect. A delay in submission of certificates and payment of fees will also result in cancellation of seat.
