The National Skill Training Institute (NSTI), Sion, Mumbai has announced for admission to its one-year courses under the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS). NSTI is one of the institutes established under the aegis of the Directorate General of Training, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India with the goal to increase the manpower that is required in industries as well as to upgrade the skills of currently serving employees and of instructors in industrial training institutes.General information
The NSTI Mumbai unit will be conducting two courses under CTS, namely, Internet of Things (Health Care), and Solar Technician, details of which are given in this article. For both the courses, the age criteria is 14 to 40 years as on 1st August 2020. The reservation in the number of seats is as per Govt. of India norms. Selection will strictly be on the basis of merit and you cannot take admission to more than one Trade course at a time in the institute. On successfully passing the final exam of the course, you will receive a National Trade Certificate (NTC) issued by the National Council of Vocational Training (N.C.V.E.T.)
Up to 25% of the total number of trainees who are enrolled or as per the sanctioned seats whichever is fewer, will receive a stipend of Rs. 100/- p.m. on Poverty-cum-Merit basis and 4% of the total number of trainees may be entitled to a Merit scholarship of Rs. 125 p.m. on the basis of the internal exam that is conducted after six months.
Internet of Things (Health Care) course
There are 24 Seats for this one-year non-engineering Trade course, known in short as IoT Technician (Smart Healthcare). To be eligible for admission to the course, you should have passed Class 10 exam under the 10+2 system of education, with Science and Math subjects, or its equivalent. What you will learn
You will know about the various electrical and electronic meters and instruments that are used in the healthcare sector, as well as relevant wireless communication modules that play a major role in it. The exciting contemporary field of remote health monitoring and tele-health will be a beneficial component of the course.
You will be provided with the necessary tool kit to work on the components within such instruments, including various analog and digital circuits. You will learn troubleshooting skills to deal with the technical problems that arise in circuits that form the core of critical hardware and will learn to use simulation software as well. Identifying different aspects of a Microcontroller, IoT apps, IoT architecture and the ability to select varied types of sensors used in healthcare will form the core of the learning modules. You will get hands-on training to install and configure IoT devices as well as the database, app and web services associated with them.Solar Technician course
There are 20 Seats for this one-year course that covers many aspects of solar energy and solar power systems . To be eligible for admission to the course, you should have passed Class 10 exam under the 10+2 system of education, with Science and Math subjects, or its equivalent. What you will learn
Diving into the components of photovoltaic cells, solar batteries, panels and inverters, and understanding what goes into manufacturing commercially viable products like solar water pumps, street lights and small appliances that operate on solar energy are what the learning modules of this course are all about. On the theoretical side, you will learn about basic electrical laws and their applications, how all these work in tandem with the laws of magnetism, the natural planetary movements and the path of sunlight, etc.
There's a lot of interesting activities to be done, such as analyzing the effect of shadows on solar radiation, plotting curves of radiation measured, and drawing a solar map vis-à-vis time and location. You will even learn about what all goes into the commissioning and installation of a full-fledged solar PV plant and maintaining the bills for materials and components used in various types of solar projects.
Course fees
The fee for each of the courses and other fees/deposits as mentioned below should be paid in its entirety at the time of admission itself.
The Tuition fee for each course is Rs. 150/- per month and Rs. 50/- p.m. for SC/ST candidates. There is also a refundable charge of Rs. 250/- as caution money and Rs.100/- towards the fee for use of the Gymkhana facilities (the gym fee is not applicable for SC/ST/PH candidates).

You can obtain the application form from the Institute directly on payment of Rs. 25/- in cash. Rs. 50/- will be the registration fee for general category candidates, but there is no registration fee for SC and ST category candidates. The application form is also available at the official website (refer to the portal information at the end of this article).
