About Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath

Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath was established by the founder President late M. Arya Murthy and founder Secretary late Prof. M. S. Nanjunda Rao in the year 1960. The college is located in a beautiful scenic place in the heart of Bangalore, the Capital City of Karnataka. It is one of the popular visual art complex consisting of a network of Galleries, Museums and Archives. There are 13 museums which display a wide range of collections that include rare and interesting artifacts depicting Indian culture, folk art, traditional, modern and contemporary art. There are 5 galleries which are rented out for exhibitions. One of the major attractions are the exhibitions conducted every year which attracts artists from various parts of the globe. The college is an autonomous institution since 2006 and is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council, an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission, New Delhi.

Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath has become a popular tourist place for many and also for those who wish to pursue arts to enrich themselves with the learning aspect of art and its history. Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath includes the college of fine arts and the Bangalore School of Visual Arts. To cater to the needs of the aspiring students, undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs in visual arts are conducted for both Indian and foreign students. With a rich historical background, the college has produced internationally acclaimed artists. The college has designed a curriculum for the artists to enrich their creativity and to nurture their passion in their right specialization. The course exposes them to varied styles of artworks and assignments are given to assess their learning abilities. Many workshops and field trips are conducted for the students to enable them to widen their scope on art. The faculty includes reputed artists who are known in the international arena. Following are the various courses offered by the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath.

Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA)

Bachelor of Visual Arts is a 4-year degree program comprising 8 semesters. The students would be learning about painting, applied art, sculpture, printmaking, art history, animation and ceramics. Two semesters includes foundation courses.

Eligibility: Students who have completed 10+2 / PUC/ equivalent JOC or vocational diploma in commercial art or any visual art course. The candidate should have overall schooling of 12 years.

Diploma in Visual Arts-Post Diploma in Visual Arts

Post diploma in visual arts is two years course with 4 semesters.

Eligibility: The students who wish to pursue the course should have completed the BVA/BFA degree/ diploma in fine arts in sculpture or painting graphic art.

Diploma in Animation

Diploma in Animation is a one year course. The students who enrol for this course would be exposed to develop their skills in varied fields such as designing, cinematography, photography cartoons, 2D&3D animation, video editing, and visual effects. The students would be gaining insight into creativity and developing conceptualizing ability. The candidates after completion can get jobs in reputed companies in the print media and advertising agencies, film and television industry.

Eligibility: The candidates should have completed 10th class or equivalent from a recognized State or Central Board of Education.

Master of Visual Arts (MVA)

It is a 2-year post-graduation course of 4 semester duration.

Eligibility: The candidates should have completed BVA/ BFA degree with 50% marks in aggregate in their undergraduate degree and for SC/ST candidates the aggregate marks should be 45%.

Ph.D Research Programme

It's a doctoral research programme.

Eligibility: The students who have completed MVA/MFAare eligible for the course.

Visual Art (outreach programme)

It is of short term duration of 6 months). Candidates who are interested in visual art but were unable to pursue the courses can apply for short term courses. The short term courses include the classes in areas of drawing, painting, still life studies and clay modelling. The course provides the basic fundamental knowledge in the field and students would be able to learn the required skills and become self-trained to gain regular training. Visual Art exposes students to nature study to understand the basic structure of nature, object study covers the aspects of man-made object & perspective, printmaking covers the basic study of printmaking process and sculpture relates to the three-dimensional medium study.

Eligibility: The candidates should have completed 10th or equivalent examination. The course fee should be paid through DD in favour of College of Fine Arts, Bangalore. It should be paid in one installment and is not refundable. At the end of the course, the certificate of course completion would be awarded. Students exhibition would be conducted, the students need to get their art material for the course.

Admission Process

The application fee is Rs. 1000/- for each course and it should be drawn in favour of "college of fine arts, Bangalore" The students can download the Application Form from the website. The Principal and the Admission Committee of the College is the final authority for all admissions.

Documents required for Admission for Fine Arts


  1. Filled in application form ( all the columns should be filled up compulsorily)
  2. Attested Mark sheets of the relevant qualifying examination
  3. TC/ College leaving certificate and rural study certificate
  4. Study and conduct certificate
  5. Migration Certificate from the previous institution
  6. Certificate Caste and income certificate (should be produced in original at the time of the interview)
  7. Domicile Certificate (seven years of study certificate in Karnataka) to be produced in case of claiming Karnataka Quota
  8. Xerox copy of Aadhar Card
  9. 4 stamp size photos to be submitted to the office
  10. All original certificates to be produced at the time of admission

Non-Karnataka and foreign students seeking admission should have a valid passport and visa during their studentship and their stay in the college. They should get clearance from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India and ICCR. The student should be eligible for the course in terms of both academics and administratively.
