Introduction Established in 1918, Osmania University is one of the oldest universities in India and based at Hyderabad in Telangana. The university is having the Faculties of Arts, Commerce, Management, Education, Law, Social Sciences, Oriental Languages, Science, Technology, Pharmacy, Engineering, Informatics etc. The university is ranked among the top 10 universities in the country for six consecutive years from 2010 onwards by India Today - Nielson survey based on performance radars. It has also achieved the status of a 'University with Potential for Excellence' during IX Plan. The university is accredited by NAAC with 'A + 'grade. This is one of the oldest universities in India having UGC recognition. The University offers Undergraduate, Post Graduate, M.Phil and PhD programmes in all the above streams mentioned above. Every year the university will be releasing the admission notification through its website and press also and the students can apply as per the details mentioned in the advertisement.
Eligibility Criteria The eligibility for admission is as follows.
A. The Candidate should have appeared in PhD eligibility test in the concerned subject.
B. The candidate should have a fellowship from UGC / CSIR / ICAR / ICMR/ DBT or by a national level organization (such as DST-INSPIRE fellowship.
C. The candidate should have qualified in the UGC-NET/ CSIR-NET/ SET-TS/AP /JEST /GATE/ GPAT Examination.
D. The candidate should have obtained M.Phil. degree through regular mode in the concerned subject or PhD in an allied subject approved by O.U.
PhD eligibility testThe University will be conducting this test once a year and will be announced by the university based on the availability of seats. This test will be of objective type with multiple choices. The maximum marks for the test is 100. The syllabus will be that of PG course of the university as approved by the Board of Studies of that particular faculty. The qualifying mark is 40. However, it will be 35 for BCs and 30 for SC/STs. The test score is valid for the year in which the examination is conducted. You are not eligible to join this year based on last year's test. Even though you qualified last year and did not join, you can't join this year with last year's result.
Admission procedureThe various steps involved in the process are as follows
1. PG Level (10 marks)
70% and above: 10 marks,
60% and up to less than 70%: 08 marks
50% and up to less than 60%: 06 marks
2. Scholastic Competitiveness (25 Marks)
UGC-NET/ CSIR-NET: 25 marks
SET-TS/AP / JEST/ GATE/ GPAT: 22 marks
M.Phil./ Ph.D. in an allied subject/ OU Ph.D. Eligibility Test: 20 marks
3. Research Exposure: One mark per year of experience in sponsored research will
be given for the candidate working on the project. One mark for each paper
published in journals or for papers presented in National/international
4. Research proposal & Interview Performance: A maximum of 10 marks
