How to apply for Admission to PhD in Osmania University

Introduction

Eligibility Criteria

• The candidates should have a Post Graduate Degree from a recognized University. The degree may be the regular mode or distance education. The candidates securing not less than 55% marks or equivalent CGPA in the Post Graduate Degree (not less than 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in the case of SC/ST/PH candidates) are eligible for applying for this program.


• In addition to the above the candidate should have minimum one of the following.
  A. The Candidate should have appeared in PhD eligibility test in the concerned subject.
  B. The candidate should have a fellowship from UGC / CSIR / ICAR / ICMR/ DBT or by a national level organization (such as DST-INSPIRE fellowship.
  C. The candidate should have qualified in the UGC-NET/ CSIR-NET/ SET-TS/AP /JEST /GATE/ GPAT Examination.
  D. The candidate should have obtained M.Phil. degree through regular mode in the concerned subject or PhD in an allied subject approved by O.U.


• The PhD admission will be subject to availability of vacancies with the Research Supervisors in the concerned department.


• A foreign student who completed his/her P.G. course in a foreign Country or in an Indian university can also apply for admission to the PhD Programme of O.U. The PhD Admission Committee of the concerned faculty will decide such candidate's eligibility based on the course content of the candidate in their P.G. Degree. Such candidates should submit a filled-in application form to the Dean of the concerned Faculty. A comprehensive research proposal is to be submitted with the application

Admission procedure

• The interested candidates are required to apply for admission in the prescribed application form with requisite fee to the Dean of the faculty.


• The application form and other details can be seen on the website www.osmania.ac.in
  
• The Department Research committee will go through all the applications and make a list of all eligible candidates and they will be called for an interview.


• The interview will be conducted by the PhD admission committee constituted by the Dean.


• The students appearing for the interview should come with a comprehensive Research Proposal


• The interview will be conducted based on the proposal submitted by the candidate.


• The merit calculation will be as follows.
  1. PG Level (10 marks)
  70% and above: 10 marks,
  60% and up to less than 70%: 08 marks
  50% and up to less than 60%: 06 marks
  
  2. Scholastic Competitiveness (25 Marks)
  UGC-NET/ CSIR-NET: 25 marks
  SET-TS/AP / JEST/ GATE/ GPAT: 22 marks
  M.Phil./ Ph.D. in an allied subject/ OU Ph.D. Eligibility Test: 20 marks
  
  3. Research Exposure: One mark per year of experience in sponsored research will
  be given for the candidate working on the project. One mark for each paper
  published in journals or for papers presented in National/international
  conferences
  
  4. Research proposal & Interview Performance: A maximum of 10 marks


• Based on the performances, they will be selecting the candidates and allot a Research director based on the area of specialisation and availability of the seats under that particular Research Guide


• The dean will inform the Guide and the Guide has to give his consent in writing.
