How to apply for PhD admsisions in Andhra University


Andhra University is one of the oldest universities in India and is in Andhra Pradesh. The university is offering a Ph.D course in all the major subjects. The procedure for admission in this university is explained in this article.

Introduction

Andhra University was established in the year 1926. Former President of India Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was one of its Vice-Chancellors who succeed Dr C. R. Reddy in 1931. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation council has given "A" rank to this university. The University has well experienced and expert faculty. Many professors are well known worldwide for their research contributions. There are 354 Professors, 198 Associate Professors and 115 Asst. Professors in the University. Andhra University campus offers 17 undergraduate and 35 postgraduate programmes, besides research on par with technical institutions worldwide. This is the first university in the country to design and implement ISO systems and get the certification. The University offers PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) programme in various subjects including Sciences, social science and engineering and management also.

In this article, the admission process for the PhD programme at Andhra University is given. The university is offering a PhD program in both full-time as well as part-time also.

Eligibility

The eligibility for admission is given as below-
  • Full Time: A post-graduate degree with a minimum of 55% of marks is the criteria for general category candidates. For SC/ST/BC and another reserved category minimum 50% marks

  • Part Time: For this also the eligibility will be same as above.

  • Reservations are applicable as per the rules of AP State government.

  • The candidate has to get qualified in the examination conducted by the University.

Admission Process

The candidates will be selected on the basis of Andhra University Research Common Entrance Test AURCET. The details of the examination are as follows-
  • The examination will have two papers. The questions will be multiple choice objective type.

  • Paper-I is common for all Science and Engineering subjects. The duration of the test is 45 minutes. There will be 50 multiple choice questions for 50 marks., Similarly there is a common Paper 1 for all Arts Subjects / Departments. Paper-I of Science stream is different from Paper-I of Arts stream.

  • Paper-II is to test the proficiency of the student in the subject concerned. The duration is 90 minutes. There will be 100 multiple choice questions for 100 marks in the concerned subjects. The syllabus for each course will be given the university website

  • Exemptions: A candidate who qualified in one or more of the following need not appear for this examination - CSIR-UGC-NET, APSET, RGNF, ICMR, Project Fellowship, and M.Phil.

How to Apply:

The application form will be available at the official website of Andhra University and candidates can check the last date for submitting the application.

The candidate has to download the same. The candidate has to take a hard copy of the application form and fill the same in his own handwriting. Rs.800/ as the application fee is to be paid in the form of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of The Director, The Directorate of Admissions, Andhra University, on any Nationalised Bank. The candidate should mention the name and the programme for which he is applying on the backside of the DD. The application fee is Rs,500/- for SC/ST candidates. The application should be sent in duplicate. If a candidate is applying for more than one course, separate applications should be made and submitted.
