Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), which is an autonomous organization under the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, has issued the admission notification for Class XI through lateral entry against vacant seats in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) for the academic session 2021. Students can apply online for the lateral admissions from 13th to 31st August 2020. Highlights of JNV schools
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, or JNVs as they are known, have been set up all over India (except in Tamil Nadu) to provide CBSE-based education to students with the implementation of the three-Language formula. The co-ed schools are residential in nature, providing separate hostel accommodation for girls and boys.
A JNV in a rural region is especially highly beneficial as it does away with the need to travel long distances to get a good education. There are no fees up to Class 10 as NVS provides the requisite funds for school books, uniforms and hostel fees. A student of Class 11 and Class 12 pays a small monthly fee, but do not need to do so if they are in the SC and ST category or from BPL (Below Poverty Line) family. Girl students also do not have to pay any fee. A fee of Rs.1500/- per month has to be paid by students who are wards of Govt. employees who are eligible for children education allowance.
Students at a JNV also acquire computer skills, with one computer available for every eight students. Indoor games, outdoor sports and activities associated with Scouts & Guides, NCC, and NSS are also available. Through the special Migration Scheme, a JNV student will participate as well in the cultural exchange program of other States by studying for one year in another JNV in a different linguistic region.
Students of JNVs have done really well in academic and co-curricular activities. The success of the JNV educational system can be seen in the academic results. The pass % in the Class 10 exam is 98.66% and in the Class 12 exam, it is 98.70%. Highly commendable! Further, data released by NVS mentions that 38% of students qualified from 11733 students for the Joint Entrance Exam-Main 2019, 966 students qualified in JEE-Advanced 2019, and 12654 students qualified in NEET-2019. A few students from the underprivileged class have even acquired international admission after completing their Class 12 studies in JNV. JNV Class XI Streams and subject combinations with eligibility

A District-wise merit list will then be prepared by NVS to select students against the vacancies under various categories. After that, a common merit list will be prepared at the State level. Students of NCC, Scouts & Guides and those who have participated in sports and games will have an advantage as weightage is given to these activities when drawing up the merit list. Students can check the lists at the official website of the JNV where they seek admission and on the notice Board at the JNV's campus. The selected students will also be intimated by the JNV Principal via SMS/Speed post. In case of further vacant seats, if students allotted the seats do not join, these will be filled up from the State level merit list.
Note that students who get admission will need to undergo a medical check-up by a qualified JNV-appointed Doctor and those having any infectious disease or any serious illness will not get admission.
