Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) PG Diploma Courses Admission 2020

Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) is offering admission to four PG Diploma courses for which you need to apply online. Because of the pandemic this year, IIMC is not going to conduct the usual entrance test for admission and students will be screened based on the marks scored in their 10th, 10+2 and graduation level. The offered PG Diploma courses are as follows:


  1. PG Diploma in English Journalism (Offered in English)

  2. PG Diploma in Hindi Journalism (Offered in Hindi)

  3. PG Diploma in Radio & TV Journalism (Offered in English/Hindi)

Overview of PG Diploma in English Journalism and Hindi Journalism

You will get a larger view about the field of communication, journalism ethics, values a journalist should possess to promote an unbiased media. You will know the technicalities associated with reporting news, distribution of news, editing news, production of news, etc and will get a chance for reporting, editing and producing Lab Journals during this course. Overview of PG Diploma in Advertising & Public Relations

The course deals with various aspects of communication like public relations, communication at a corporate level, the role of advertising and marketing in communication. You will also learn about various tools used in communication that helps to enhance your creativity. You can work in groups to develop and exhibit campaigns on various latest issues. This course covers the following topics:

Eligibility

A Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university is required to apply for this course. Students already appeared but awaiting results for their final semester in a Bachelor's Degree program can also apply. Students appearing/appeared for their final semester but result awaited, must give the percentage/marks scored up to the second year/fourth semester while applying.

Date of Birth

  • For general candidates, the DOB should be on or after 01.08.1995 (1st August 1995)

  • For SC/ST or Differently abled candidates, the DOB should be on or after 01.08.1990 (1st August 1990)

  • For OBC candidates the DOB should be on or after 01.08.1992 (1st August 1992)

Selection procedure

During the submission of online application form, the candidates have to give the Statement of Purpose for joining the course in 300 words. Candidates will be selected based on their merits. Since there will be no entrance test this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic the score of the candidates in their Graduation, 10+2 and 10th will be taken into account. These marks will be weighed respectively in 40:20:20 per cent. Based on this, candidates will be short-listed for an Online Interview of 20 marks. This short-list of the candidates will be made available by 1st week of September 2020. The date and time of the Online Interview will be declared subsequently.

The overall score of a candidate out of 100 will be the criteria for preparing the final rank list of the selected candidates, based on category and course.

NRI quota

For NRI/NRI sponsored candidates there are five seats in each course whereas the eligibility and DOB requirements remain the same as that of the general candidates. These candidates can appear for the Online Interview directly after paying USD 50 as an entry fee.

Process of admission

Only the PG Diploma in English Journalism will be conducted at all the campuses of IIMC; i.e. at IIMC New Delhi, IIMC Dhenkanal, IIMC Aizawl, IIMC Amravati, IIMC Jammu and IIMC Kottayam. The other three courses will be conducted only at IIMC Delhi campus. So, the campus allocation in case of PGD in English Journalism is going to be based on Merit-cum-Preference. The candidates should give a rank to all the campuses according to their order of preference. If no choice is made, the campus will be decided by IIMC based on an alphabetical roster.

Short-listed candidates for admission to the courses have to submit the course fees online and complete the admission process within seven days of publication of the list. Candidates under the EWS scheme need to show the Income & Asset Certificate provided by the competent authority.

If there are vacant seats in any of the campuses, it will be offered to the interested candidates based on the category-wise merit list. For this, the result for another round of admission will be announced.

Course fees



  • For PGD in English Journalism, the course fee is Rs 52,000/- in Semester 1 and Rs 43,500/- in Semester 2. For NRI/NRI sponsored quota, the one-time fee is $8,000

  • For PGD in Hindi Journalism, the course fee is Rs 52,000/- in Semester 1 and Rs 43,500/- in Semester 2. For NRI/NRI sponsored quota, the one-time fee is $8,000

  • For PGD in Radio & TV Journalism, the course fee is Rs 88,500/- in Semester 1 and Rs 80,000/- in Semester 2. For NRI/NRI sponsored quota, the one-time fee is $12,000

  • For PGD in Advertising & PR, the course fee is Rs 70,000/- in Semester 1 and Rs 61,500/- in Semester 2. For NRI/NRI sponsored quota, the one-time fee is $12,000

How to apply

The candidates need to visit the Admission Link to fill up the Application form and pay the Admission fee online. Candidates can apply to more than one course and in that case, the choices have to be indicated in the single Application form only. However, the payment of Application Fee has to be made separately for each course. While filling up the Application form, the candidates need to attach the scanned copy of the following documents:

  • Educational certificates of Graduation, Class 12 and Class 10

  • Mark sheets of Graduation

  • Age certificate

  • Recent passport size photograph and signature

  • Caste certificate (for SC/ST/OBC)

  • Certificate of EWS (if applicable)

  • Certificate of Differently-abled category (if applicable)

  • Statement of Purpose (a written statement in 300 words describing the intention for joining the course)

Application fee

General Category candidates have to pay an application fee of Rs 1000/- for each course.
OBC/SC/ST/Differently-abled/EWS category candidates have to pay an application fee of Rs 750/- for each course.
