University of Calcutta UG admissions in Home Science-2020

About the Faculty of Home Science

Faculty of Home Science, University of Calcutta, is also known as Faculty Council for P.G. Studies in Fine Arts, Music and Home Science. The department was established in 1957. Earlier the department was known as Viharilal College of Home and Social Science, which was affiliated to Calcutta University. Initially, only Food and Nutrition courses were there. Later in 1982, it was converted to the department of Home Science. Human Development courses were introduced in 1996. Now, the department is running undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral programmes successfully. Besides Food & Nutrition and Human Development course, other subjects like Social Sciences, Chemistry, Education, Music, Household Arts, English and Bengali are also taught in B.A., B.Sc. Postgraduate courses. PhD programmes are running in Food & Nutrition, Human Development. Department of Home Science has invited applications from interested and eligible female candidates for admission in undergraduate courses.

UG courses offered in Home Science

There are four undergraduate courses in Home Science:
  1. B.Sc (Hons.) in Food and Nutrition
    Intake Capacity: 65
  2. B.Sc. (Hons.) in Human Development
    Intake Capacity: 65
  3. B.Sc. (General)
    Intake Capacity: 100
  4. B.A. (General)
    Intake Capacity: 20

UG Home Science courses admission 2020


  • B.Sc. (Hons.) in Food &Nutrition
    Core Corse (CC): Food & Nutrition
    Duration: 3-years
    Eligibility:
    1. Candidates must have a pass in higher secondary or 10+2 examination with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from any recognised board.
    2. She must have a minimum of 55% marks in Chemistry, both theory and practical.

  • B.Sc (Hons.) in Human Development
    Core Corse (CC): Human Development
    Duration: 3-years
    Eligibility:
    1. Candidates should have passed higher secondary or 10+2 examination with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from any recognised board.
    2. The subject combination opted by the candidate must be Sociology/Psychology/Education/Home Management/ Chemistry/ Biology at the higher secondary level.

Note: There will be a relaxation in qualifying marks for SC/ST/PC candidates in both B.Sc. (Hons.) Courses. These candidates would require 40% aggregate marks in 10+2 level.

Other requirements

  • Only female candidates can apply for the Home Science courses.
  • Candidates must have to score full marks of 100 in English subject.
  • Please note the candidates who have passed higher secondary or 10+2 examination earlier than 2015 will not be considered for admission in UG programmes.
  • The candidates from West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and Training will not be considered for above courses.
  • The students who were admitted in earlier sessions before the year 2018 and appeared in B.A./B.Sc./B.Mus. (Honours/General) Part I Examination in 2018 or earlier shall not eligible for B.Sc (Hons.) courses.
