About MAT

MAT or Management Aptitude Test is a standardized test administered by All India Management Association (AIMA) for facilitating admission to over 600 Business Schools in the country. The test is being administered since the year 1988 to screen candidates for admission to various MBA and other management-related programs. The test is approved by the HRD Ministry, Govt. of India as a national level test. It is the largest such test in the field of management and its test scores are applicable to admission to hundreds of participating Management Institutions (MI). Usually, MAT is held four times in a year and currently, the test will be held from 27 August 2020 to 02 September 2020 on all the eight days. On each date there will be two slots. One from 10 am to 12:30 pm and the second one from evening 6 to 8:30 pm. The test scores of MAT are valid for a period of one year.

This year, because of the pandemic situation in the country due to the coronavirus, AIMA is providing candidates the option to appear for the test from the safety of their home through Remote Proctored Internet Based Mode (IBT).



Mode of test and application fees

As mentioned above, the students can appear for the test from their home. They have two options to select. The two modes of test and the application fee for each is as follows.

  1. Remote Proctored Internet Based Test (IBT) - application fee Rs 1650/-
  2. Double Remote Proctored Internet Based Test (IBT) – an additional fees of Rs 1100/- in addition to Rs 1650/-

Those candidates who opt for two IBTs will get two additional Management Institutions to send their score to, in addition to the usual five. That means, such candidates can select seven Management Institutions in all.

The fee is to be paid online at the time of registration by choosing any of the options among net banking, credit cards, debit cards, UPI and wallet.

About remote proctored IBT

As the name suggests, through this mode of test the candidate can appear for the test by sitting in the safety of their home. For opting for this mode, the candidate will need a fast and reliable internet connection. The minimum speed requirement is 512 kbps. Additional requirements are a laptop or desktop equipped with webcam and microphone. Mobile phones or tablets cannot be used for appearing for the test. Windows operation system, version 7 or above, is to be used for the test. The invigilation will be done remotely through audio and video feed and by monitoring the computer screen of the candidate. Snapshots and videos of the candidate will be taken from time to time.

During the test you will have to keep a valid government-approved photo ID proof along with you. You will have to show it up to the invigilator when asked.

IBT test schedule

The date & time of the tests and the last dates for registration can be obtained from the following test schedule. As can be seen, the test in on every date starting from 27 August 2020 and th elast one on 02 September 2020. The admit card is to be downloaded from the AIMA website. It won't be sent by email or post.

Eligibility

For appearing for MAT, the candidates should have the minimum qualification of graduation. The graduate degree could be from any discipline. Even those candidates, who are in their final year of B.A, B.Sc, B.Tech, B.E, B.Com, etc. can also appear for the test on provisional basis. There is also a minimum percentage requirement. It however, differs from institute to institute and the candidate will have to check with the participating institute. There is no age bar for appearing for this test, nor is there any requirement of job experience.

Nature of the test

MAT is a multiple choice type exam that generally seeks to test the aptitude skills of the candidates. Following are the different sections, from where the questions will be asked.
  1. Language comprehension
  2. Mathematical skills
  3. Data analysis and sufficiency
  4. Intelligence and critical reasoning
  5. Indian and global environment

Each section is of 40 marks and the total time given for the test is two hours thirty minutes.

Candidates who have registered for MAT September 2020 can appear for a mock test to familiar themselves with the test. A sample paper is also available at the website.



How to apply

Registration for MAT September 2020 can be done online by visiting the official website of AIMA. The first thing you need to do is register. For this you will need a valid email ID and mobile number to receive the OTP. Once you are successfully registered, you can login to the site and fill the online application form for MAT. You will have to fill up your personal details and educational qualifications. You will also have to upload a scanned image of your photograph in jpg/jpeg format with the size ranging from 10kb to 50kb. Similarly, upload a scanned image of your signature, and the size should be between 5kb to 20kb. Once you are through with all the details and the uploads, click on the submit button. You will be directed to the payment portal and depending upon the mode of test you have opted for, you need to pay the requisite registration fee through any of the online means as mentioned earlier.
