Introduction

This is one of the oldest colleges of India. It was established even before the University of Madras and is now 180 years old. According to those interviewed for the purpose of this article, the main advantage of this college is its high quality Faculty Team. This is a State Government college, and since the college offers education at a very reasonable price and is situated very near the prestigious University of Madras, it has the direct advantage of being patronized by the high quality educational ecosystem of the University. Though the college is an autonomous college of the University of Madras, the consistent high quality of education is no mean achievement, given the fact that the college has to compulsorily follow many guidelines applicable to Government colleges.
Among the notable courses are the B.A courses in Political Science and Hindi literature, both of which are reported to have many takers. Similarly, the B.Sc (Advanced Zoology and Advanced Biotechnology) is reported to be very famous as the course leads to highly lucrative research careers. The B.Sc degree offered in Psychology, Geography and Geology are also specially mentioned as the courses preferred; it is said that once the concerned student gets a post graduate degree and a doctorate degree, he or she is assured of a teaching job, as the number of such qualified professionals is less.
The college is well known for its M.Phil and doctorate courses in English, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Tamil, Telugu and Sanskrit. In a matter of a few decades, this college has earned a name for itself as a promising college in the southern suburb of Chennai, called Meenambakkam, that also houses the prestigious Chennai Airport, the fourth busiest airport in the country. A variety of unique courses

This college is simply referred to as "Shasun college" by the locals and the parents in particular, from T.Nagar and the surrounding areas like Vadapalani, are on record of having said that it does pay to have a good college of repute with an impressive record of placement, bang next to the bus station of T.Nagar, the busiest commercial district of Chennai metropolis.
True to its emphasis on personality development, the college boasts of a good air-conditioned seminar hall, with a seating capacity of over one hundred and fifty people. This facilitates the good number of guest lectures arranged on a variety of subjects and the exposure so given through these inputs does add tremendous value to the quality of the courses. It should be noted that Chennai is home to so many good colleges. Three of them have been discussed in some detail in the aforesaid paragraphs. The Presidency college, the A.M. Jain College and the Shasun Jain College for women, are unique in their own ways. There are many other promising colleges as well. The details thereof will be discussed in a series of other articles.
The author has tried his best to bring in the best colleges located in Chennai. By mentioning a few colleges the author also recommended them to be the best among the lot and that is good because he has such love and affection for the colleges and studies imparted. But the word of mouth from those who passed out from the said colleges will be good, because every time the admissions are open, the parents would ask those who studied in those colleges for getting the best information and that can be the deciding factor. Moreover, the location, the courses, the teaching staff, and overall facilities would go a long way in deciding the colleges and deciding then which are good and which are average. For that matter, every college in Chennai is owned and maintained by the powerful people of the state and they take every care and means to keep the reputation. Every year the National Board of accreditation will visit the college and rate them according to the facilities and courses offered and also the reputation of the college in terms of campus interview and success thereafter. So we cannot give certification from ourselves unless and until the colleges have proved themselves.
