Sacred Heart College, an autonomous college since the year 2014, is a renowned first-grade college in the port city of Kochi in Kerala. Established by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) in 1944, the college is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. It is among those very few colleges in Kerala that have been honoured with the status of 'College with Potential for Excellence' (CPE). Due to its sheer academic excellence and high standard in every sphere of activity, be it curricular or co-curricular it was bestowed with autonomous status in 2014 by the state government.

Presently, the college is receiving applications for its various postgraduate programs for the academic year 2020-21. Other than the usual admissions on merit basis, the college also provides admission based on sports, cultural, PwD, community and management quota. Community quota is for candidates belonging to Roman Catholic Syrian Christians (SyroMalabar) church alone. The college follows the directives of the MG University and the Government of Kerala with respect to the admissions.   • Admission notification for PG programs – 20 August 2020

  • Online registration dates – 21 August 2020 to 15 September 2020, 5 pm
  • Last date for paying of online registration fee at branches of South Indian Bank (can be paid online also) – 15 September 2020
  • Provisional rank list to be published on – 18 September 2020, 5 pm
  • Last date for reporting errors, if any, in the provisional rank list – 21 September 2020, 5 pm
  • Admissions based on MO/Sports/Cultural/PwD quota – 25 September 2020
  • Admissions for General/SC/ST community quota – 26 September 2020
  • Classes to commence from – 29 September 2020

In case of vacant seats in any of the programs, spot admission will be offered to candidates based on merit.

Programs on offer

All the PG programs are of two years duration and have four semesters each. Details of the syllabus for each program can be had from the website.


Eligibility


  • Candidates who have passed graduation in the 10+2+3 scheme from any recognised university are eligible to apply. Candidates who are holding degree in vocational subjects are also eligible. However, they need to submit an equivalency certificate obtained from MG University stating that their qualification is an equivalent one for admission to their chosen program.

  • The candidates should have scored 45% marks or a CGPA of 4.5 out of 10.



Selections and bonus marks

The selection of the candidates for a particular program will be mainly based on their past academic record, especially on the marks obtained in their undergraduate degree. The total marks in the qualifying exam will be standardized to 1000. In cases, where CGPA is given, it will be converted into marks.

A bonus of 5 marks is admissible to candidates having NSS and NCC certificates. For NCC candidates, they should have at least 75% attendance in graduation. Additionally, 'A' certificate holders can be awarded 3 marks and 'B'/'C' certificate holders 5 marks if they submit proof of high efficiency.

For NSS candidates, they should have completed 240 hours of social work in the preceding two years during graduation.

Candidates belonging to ex-servicemen category, including widows and children of jawan/ex-servicemen will be given 15 marks as bonus.

How to apply

Application for admission to the PG programs are to be done online by visiting the official website of Sacred Heart College. Once at the PG admissions page, click on the link that says 'Applicant Login'. You will have to then register yourself at the site. For registration, provide your mobile number and email id. After successful registration, login with the username and password and fill up the online application form. Upload a passport size photograph before final submission. After the application process is complete, take out a print out of the submitted application form for future reference. Also, send a copy of the application form along with the relevant documents to the college through mail at the address 'PG Admissions, Sacred Heart College, Thevara, Kochi - 13'. Candidates can also apply for more than one program. In such cases, they will have to submit a separate application form. Application fee


For General candidates: Rs 300/- (includes a processing fee of Rs 250/-)
For SC/ST candidates: Rs 150/- (includes a processing fee of Rs 100)

For each additional program, an additional application fee is to be paid. Other than submitting in a branch of South Indian Bank, the fee can be preferably paid online through net banking, debit card or credit card.

Following are the documents that need to be produced in original by the candidate during the verification process. A copy of the original document to be carried along with.
  1. A copy of the online application form submitted
  2. Consolidated mark sheets of undergraduate degree
  3. Mark sheet of class 10
  4. Transfer certificate from the college last attended
  5. Migration certificate, if applicable
  6. Conduct certificate from institute last attended
  7. A recent passport size photograph
  8. Category certificate for SC and ST candidates
  9. Relevant NCC/NSS/Ex-servicemen certificate, if applicable
  10. Medical certificate from a qualified practicing doctor about the blood group and physical health status of the candidate
