About TULIP Programme
The Urban Learning Internship Programme (TULIP) portal for fresh graduates and engineering students was launched by the Central government on 4th June 2020. The programme is managed under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MoHUA) and Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), in which students will get to work for 100 smart cities. TULIP portal is developed by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The scheme was launched to provide the internship opportunities to thousands of fresh graduates and engineers of the county under Smart City projects in over 100 cities in the country. They will get training and work for smart cities under MoUHA and MHRD. MoHUA and MHRD will provide training to the engineering graduates studying in various engineering colleges in various departments.
Internship benefits for students
By doing the AICTE TULIP internship, the students get several benefits like:
Practical Experience: AICTE TULIP Internship programme will provide practical exposure to fresh graduates and engineering students to work on the smart city's projects. They will learn different skills and work experience by getting a realistic view of the industry. It will enhance their practical knowledge as during the programme they will interact with the civil society members and officials. They will learn about policy formulation and implementation and will also get a deep insight into the urban governance which will be very helpful in the accomplishments.
Professional Development: There will be a short term exposure to new graduates to build their professional network so they will develop themselves professionally through experiential learning with ULBs and smart cities.
Internship Stipend: Internship stipend and other allowance will be payable at the discretion of the ULB/ smart city. ULB or Smart City will not be responsible to provide any employment to the interns.
Logistics: All the items that are required by interns like laptops, mobile internet connectivity, other devices etc. can be brought. They will have to arrange food, accommodation and transportation themselves and can reimburse from the ULB or Smart City.
Certificate of Internship: Upon successful completion of the internship, each intern will get a digitally signed certificate issued jointly by MoHUA, State Government, AICTE and ULB / Smart City.
Duration of Internship: Selection of interns will be for a period of a minimum of 8 weeks and a maximum of 1 year.
Number of Internships: Under TULIP programme there are 295,200 internships available under 23,970 companies which have been targeted to increase up to 1 Crore by the financial year 2025 to reduce the unemployment in the country.
Stipend: Stipend that will be provided to the interns will vary according to the city and also as per the terms and conditions of the company.
Eligibility criteria for Internship
All the applicants must fulfil the following eligibility criteria for student training under AICTE TULIP Internship:
Only Indian nationals can apply for the AICTE TULIP Internship.
The interested candidates who are fresh graduates should apply for the internship within the 18 months from the declaration of final year results.
The candidates must hold a graduate degree (B.Tech, B.Planning, B. Arch, BA, BSc, B.Com, LLB etc.).
Graduate students from AICTE affiliated and non-AICTE College are eligible to apply.
Under TULIP programme, Internships are offered in various departments, such as engineering (various branches), urban planning, urban design, information and technology, finance, social and the environmental sector.
Department-wise qualification and specialization is given below:
Urban Planning Including town planning: B.Plan or equivalent
Building and Layouts: B.Plan (Civil or equivalent), B.Arch
Economic and Social development: B.Tech (CS), B.Tech (IT), BA/BSc (Economics, Sociology, Statistics, Management Sciences)
Public Health, Sanitation conservancy and Solid waste management: B.Tech (Civil), B.Tech (CS), B.Tech (IT), B.Tech (Mechanical)
Urban Forestry, Protection of the environment and promotion of ecological aspects: B.Plan (Environmental Studies), BA/B.Sc (Environmental Studies)
Slum Improvement and up-gradation: B.Arch, B.Tech (Civil), BA/B.Sc (Sociology)
Provision of Urban amenities and facilities such as parks, gardens, playgrounds: B.Arch, B.Tech (Civil), B.Tech (Electrical), B.Tech (Mechanical), B.Sc. (Horticulture)
Promotion of cultural, education and aesthetic aspects: B.Arch
Cattle pounds: Prevention of cruelty to animals: BA/B.Sc (Veterinary Sciences) or equivalent

To get registered themselves the candidates must visit the official website of AICTE TULIP Internship.
On the homepage of the official website of Internship AICTE India, at the right-hand upper corner, there will appear a butter viz. "Register". Click on this button to register for the AICTE internship.
After clicking on the "Register" button, a registration page will be open. Now select "Student" option among ULB/Smart City, Employer and University/College and Student to register.
After clicking on Student Section, an online application form will be open for the AICTE TULIP Internship.
In this step, the candidates will have to fill in all the details like Name of University/ College/ Institute, Student enrolment number, Name, Contact number and Email ID etc. and then after filling the captcha, click on the "Register" button to complete the AICTE TULIP Internship online application process.

Recommendation Letter: A recommendation letter from the competent authority of the candidate's academic institution is mandatory to attach with the application form.
Synopsis: A synopsis on urban issues covering applicant's areas of interest, proposed work and objectives for internship in maximum 1,000 words must be annexed with the application form.
