B.D. Somani International School, Mumbai is an international higher secondary school certified by IGCSE for Grade 10 that culminates in the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma at Grade 12. Students of Grades 6 to 8 follow the Cambridge curriculum framework but not stringently so, having its own developed educational roadmap. Art, music and theatre, and IT are part of the curriculum.
The Primary school section has two categories, namely (i) Early Years - Reception, Junior Kindergarten, and Senior Kindergarten; and (ii) Primary Years - Grades 1 – 5. There are more than 400 students in the primary school section with 70+ teachers and sufficient support staff. The Secondary school consists of Middle School of Grades 6 – 8 and High School of Grades 9 and 10. Grades 11 and 12 follow the IB program. Collectively more than 450 students are enrolled in secondary school and here, too, there are a good number of teachers and support staff.
Outdoor sports facilities include a basketball court and artificial turf for field sports like football. Indoors, there is a separate room for the unique martial art of Capoeira. Computer and science labs, a library, auditorium, etc are the additional campus facilities.
The colourful, spacious classrooms for primary school students are great spaces to learn and explore. Scientific observations, drawing and painting, reading and writing are combined well with unique block-building sessions, outdoor play, and story-time sessions.
The school cafeteria for students of Grades 1 to 12 provides vegetarian meals for lunch with both, Indian and Western main course options, salads, fruits, etc. Students are welcome to bring their own cooked packed lunch each day (parents are not allowed to bring lunch for their wards later in the day). KG students have their own separate space for lunchtimes.
Students of Grades 3 to 5 can enroll for separate programs that are scheduled after school (the fees are extra for these), such as sports, cooking, math challenges, etc.
Grade 1 onwards, students are part of a House, donning the shirt colour of their House for the Physical education classes and the annual Sports Day events. There are four houses – Falcon (blue colour), Hawk (green colour), Kite (red colour), and Eagle (orange colour).
Eligibility requirements for admission for B.D. Somani International School
The child for whom admission is sought for Reception must be 3 years old as of 1st July 2021. For admission to Junior Kindergarten, the child should be 4 years olf as of 1st July 2021.
For the older classes, the child will be assessed by the school for correct class placement but, generally, the same age requirement is followed.
B.D. Somani International School Fees
Application fee: Parents have to submit a one-time, non-refundable application fee of Rs.4,000 along with the filled-in application form. Note though, that this does not guarantee admission to the school.
Admission fee: Once the acceptance for admission is confirmed, parents have to pay a one-time, non-refundable admission fee of Rs.65,000.
Caution fee: Once the admission is accepted, parents have to pay a Caution Fee of Rs.25,000 that will be refunded after adjustment for any sums owed when the student leaves the school or is withdrawn from the school.
Semester fees: The official school website has not been updated with details of the fee for the next academic year. You can check out, though, the FAQ section to know the fees for the various classes of the previous academic session to get a general idea.
Bus fee: There is a bus fee for transportation of students of Reception to Grade 8 who are not staying within the vicinity of the local areas.
Lunch fee: The primary school students have to pay a fee for the lunch meals if they opt for it.
Additional fees: There will be expenses for sundry other things, such as stationery, field trips and overnight trips, a musical instrument if required, etc. For students of Grades 3, 5, 6 and for IGCSE and IB exams the school conducts a computerized Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) test for which there will be a separate fee. Parents have to pay the academic fees in advance for the first semester once they accept admission to B.D. Somani International School within the scheduled time-frame that will be intimated in the Admission Offer Letter. After you have submitted the form, you have to take a print out of it. Put the print out in a sealed envelope along with a cheque for Rs. 4000/-, drawn in favour of "B.D. Somani International School, Primary." On the envelope put the words "B,D. Somani Primary - Application". This should then be despatched by courier or it can be delivered personally to the School's main reception area between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. (Monday to Friday).Application process for secondary school students
Parents have to fill up the online application form at https://forms.bdsomaniinternationalschool.com/secondary-school-applications/. This form is for seeking admission to Grade 6 to Grade 11.
After you have submitted the form, you have to take a print out of it. Put the print out in a sealed envelope along with a cheque for Rs. 4000/- (cash is also accepted), drawn in favour of Once you have generated your application form, please print and enclose it in a sealed "B.D. Somani International School." On the envelope put the words "B.D. Somani Secondary - Application" and address it to Ms Dipika Pardeshi. This can then be sent by courier or it can be delivered personally to the School's main reception area between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
After the application is reviewed, if selected, the parents will receive an email intimation through an Admission offer letter about the subsequent procedure and requirements.
