About NIWE

Under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the Government of India has established the National Institute of Wind Energy(NIWE) for the development of wind power in India. It is an autonomous research institution that focuses on promoting and accelerating the pace of utilization of wind energy. The main aim of the NIWE is to help for the growth of the wind power sector in the country and hence it is in the process of developing facilities, evolving strategies and conducting research and development programmes to achieve cost-effective and reliable technology in wind power systems.

About NIWE-AAP

Other than the research activities, the National Institute of Wind Energy also actively organizes Academic Associate Programme(AAP) for the young talented students. NIWE-AAP is an internship programme conducted by NIWE for the interested and talented students of disciplines such as Science, Engineering and Management. The institute is mainly conducting this internship programme to create awareness and develop interest among the students in the research field of renewable energy.

Duration

The duration of the NIWE Internship programme is for a minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 6 months. Daily attendance is mandatory during the internship programme.

Total intake

Depending upon the requirements of NIWE, the total intake of interns may vary. However, the institute will not hire more than 25 interns at any point. The enrolment for NIWE-AAP will be open throughout the year and the institute will offer internships based on the requirements and vacancies in a project.

Who can apply

Interested candidates must satisfy the below mentioned eligibility conditions to apply for the NIWE-AAP
  1. Candidates must be a citizen of India.
  2. Candidates should be pursuing their B.E. / B.Tech / M.E. / M.Tech / M.Sc. / MBA /M.Com/ MCA/ B.Com/BBA/B.Sc/MS degree with a minimum of 60% marks in all the semesters conducted by a recognized Indian University.
  3. Candidates who have completed their UG/PG degree with a minimum of 60% marks in all the semesters can also apply for the NIWE-AAP within two years from the date of award of their degrees.
  4. Lecturers/Professors with relevant academic knowledge useful to perform NIWE activities are eligible to apply only if they have an academic record of a minimum 60% marks in their university examinations.
  5. Master Degree foreign candidates who have an academic score equivalent to 60% can also apply for the NIWE internship. But such candidates must get clearance from MEA/MHA. Before applying to MEA/MHA, the foreign candidates may interact with the Division Head, R&D and RDAF and seek assistance.


How to apply

Interested and eligible candidate can download the internship application form from the official website of NIWE. Also, in the official announcement of NIWE-AAP, candidates can find the application form at the Annexure-I, bonafide certificate at the Annexure-II and the internship agreement at Annexure-III.

The application form and bonafide certificate should be filled in the format prescribed by the institute. All the fields in the form should be filled with correct information. Candidates must mention their area of interest in the application form. Also, they should write a synopsis on his/her proposed topic of research during the internship. Since the internship duration is not fixed, candidates should mention the duration for which he/she is intended to attend the internship in the form. Along with the filled-in application form, candidates must enclose the photocopy of self-attested address proof and ID proof.

NIWE expects the students to submit a recommendation letter. So, candidates need to obtain a bonafide certificate from the college Principal/HoD in the format attached at Annexure-II. The hard copy of the filled-in application form along with the necessary documents should be submitted at the NIWE office located in Chennai. Applicants are advised to apply at least 15 days before the intended date of start of the internship. The applications should be addressed to the "Division Head, R&D and RDAF, NIWE, 657/1A2, Velachery Tambaram Road, Pallikaranai, Chennai 600 100".

Selection process

The R&D and RDAF division of NIWE will scrutinize the applications submitted for NIWE-AAP and will forward the applications to domain-specific divisions by proper intimation through Administration. Out of all the submitted applications, the divisions will process and shortlist the candidates based on the academic background, area of interest and internship proposal. NIWE reserves all right to select or reject the candidate according to the requests from the Departments/Division depending upon the number of applications submitted.

Before final selection, the R&D division may conduct a personal face-to-face interview, telephonic or a Skype interview with the applicant in respect to their domain of interest and also verify their original certificates. The R&D division will intimate the applicants if they are selected for the internship programme. The decision of the Head, R&D and RDAF division will be final and no changes can be made after the selection process.

The selected interns will have to report to the concerned divisions of NIWE on the date of the internship. No accommodation will be provided for the selected interns. The outstation interns will have to make their own arrangements for accommodation at their own expenses. During the enrolment of NIWE-AAP, each intern will have to sign a declaration in accordance with the NIWE's Data Protection Policy. NIWE expects the students to strictly follow the policies, rules and regulations. NIWE reserves the right to take legal action if any candidate violates the policy.

Role of Interns

Each intern will be allotted to respective divisions/departments of NIWE based on their areas of interest. During the internship programme, the interns will have to work within NIWE's office and participate in various activities assigned to them. The institute will provide a working space and internet facility, but will not give any computer or laptops. The interns will have to carry their own laptops to perform the internship activities. At the end of the internship programme, all the interns should submit a report on the areas of the internship/study to R&D/RDAF.

Remuneration and Certificate

No stipend will be provided for the selected interns. The NIWE will issue a certificate on satisfactory completion of the internship programme to all the interns only after the submission and acceptance of the internship project report. Also, while issuing the internship certificate, the institute will take attendance into account. Only interns with 80% & above attendance will be awarded the NIWE- AAP certificate. Those who discontinue the internship will not be awarded any certificate.

Note: While attending the NIWE-AAP, the selected interns will have to strictly follow the instructions of the institute and abide by the internship agreement. NIWE reserves right to terminate the interns at any time and also engage interns as per their discretion. Remember, the Internship programme should not be interpreted as an employment or the assurance of any job with NIWE.
