University of Mumbai IDOL distance learning UG, PG courses online admissions


Are you keen on pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate correspondence course through a reputed university in India? This article provides the complete list of courses with study materials offered by the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), University of Mumbai for graduation and higher studies through the distance learning mode. Details of the eligibility criteria for each course and the application procedure are also provided.

Established in 1971, the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), University of Mumbai is celebrating its Golden Jubilee year. The Director if IDOL has issued the schedule of dates for admission to all the various undergraduate and postgraduate courses for the academic session 2020-21 (July session). Scholarships and Freeship Schemes are available for all the courses, except for students enrolling for the M.A. (Education) Part I and Part II course.

At the outset, please note that after you enroll, you can cancel the admission if you so wish, but will be charged an administrative fee of Rs.250/- if cancelled within 30days. The fees will not be refunded, though, if the admission is cancelled after 30 days. Also, if you are applying for admission on the basis of a qualifying exam that you have passed from a Board other than the Maharashtra State board or from a University other than the University of Mumbai, it is mandatory to get approval from the IDOL Eligibility Unit before making the payment for the course fee.

Schedule for IDOL admission 2020-21

From 8th September 2020 to 18th November 2020 (date has been extended from the earlier one of 23rd September 2020) you can apply for these IDOL programs-
  • Post Graduate Diploma course in Financial Management (PGDFM) and Post Graduate Diploma Course in Operations Research for Management (PGDORM) - Semester I and II.

  • Second year and Third year for B.A., B.Com., B.Sc. IT, and B.Sc. Computer Science courses.

  • M.A. Part-II for History, Sociology, Economics, Political Science, Marathi, Hindi, and English.

  • M.A. Part-II (Education).

  • M.Com. Part-II.

  • M.Sc. Part-II for Mathematics, IT & Comp. Science.

  • MCA Second year and Third year course.

The schedule for admission to F.Y.B.A., F.Y.B.Com., F.Y.B.Sc.(IT), M.A. Part-I, M.A. Part-I (Education), M.Com, Part-I, has been released in the official notification on 10th November as follows-

  • M.A. Education I - 9th November to 18th November 2020.

  • M.Com. I - 9th November to 18th November 2020.

  • The schedule for the M.Sc. (IT) Semester I and II, M.A./M.Sc. Maths Semester I and II has not yet been announced.



    University of Mumbai IDOL courses, eligibility criteria and fees

    UG Arts courses

    F. Y. B.A.: You should have passed the 10+2 (H.S.C.) exam from Maharashtra State Board. Also accepted is a pass class from an equivalent exam from another state, with English as compulsory subject. Students who have passed a three-year Diploma from MSBTE OR other Boards that are recognized as equivalent can also apply.
    Fee: Rs. 3230/- for General category; Rs.330/- for Reserved category.

    S. Y.B. A.: You should have passed/ATKT in F.Y.B.A.
    Fee: Rs. 3010/- for General category; Rs.330/- for Reserved category.

    T. Y. B. A.: You should have passed in F.Y.B.A. and S.Y.B.A. or with ATKT in either F.Y.B.A. or S.Y.B.A.
    Fee: Rs. 3160/- for General category; Rs. 580/for Reserved category.

    UG Commerce courses

    F.Y.B.Com.: You should have passed the exam conducted by the different Divisional Boards of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
    Fee: Rs. 3230/- for General category; for Rs. 330/- Reserved category.

    S. Y. B.Com.: You should have passed in F.Y.B.Com, or ATKT 0r (BBI/BFM students will get admission subject to condition that such student has to clear FC Paper - I ATKT at F.Y.B.Com level.)
    Fee: Rs. 3010/- for General category; Rs. 330/- for Reserved category.

    T. Y. B.Com.: You should have passed in F.Y.B.Com. and S.Y.B.Com. or with ATKT in either F.Y.B.Com. or S.Y.B.Com.
    Fee: Rs. 3160/- for General category; Rs. 580/- for Reserved category.

    UG Science courses

    F.Y.B.Sc. (I. T.): You should have passed H.S.C. (Class 12) with Maths and Statistics with minimum 45% marks (for reserved category students it is 40% for reserved category) and equivalent.
    Fee: Rs. 16,210/- for General category; Rs. 330/- for Reserved category.

    S.Y.B.Sc. (I.T.): You should have passed in F.Y.B. Sc. IT or ATKT in OR Passed three years diploma from any recognized state. Central board students should have passed in all subjects of F.Y.B.Sc. (IT) and failed not more 200 marks from the University of Mumbai. [Note: this is the eligibility for the first semester; refer to the official notification for eligibility for semester III and IV].
    Fee: Rs.16, 490/- for General category; Rs. 330/- for Reserved category.

    T.Y.B.Sc. (I. T.): You should have passed in all subjects of F. Y. & S.Y. B. Sc. (IT) or equivalent exam of other universities. Students should have passed in all subjects of FY B. Sc. (IT) and failed not more than 200 marks in S.Y. B.Sc. (IT) from the University of Mumbai. [Note: this is the eligibility for the first semester; refer to the official notification for eligibility for semester III and IV].
    Fee: Rs.17, 820/- for General category; Rs. 580/- for Reserved category.

    F.Y.B.Sc. (Computer Science): Passed in HSC (XII) Science with Mathematics or equivalent.
    Fee: Rs.12,215/- for General category; Rs. 330/- for Reserved category.

    S.Y.B.Sc. (Computer Science): You should have (i) passed F.Y.B.Sc . (Comp. Sc.) in all subjects or an equivalent exam of another university; or (ii) failing not more than 200 marks of F.Y.B.Sc. (Comp. Sc.) exam; or (iii) passed 3-year diploma from any recognised state/ central board.
    Fee: Rs.14,195/- for General category; Rs. 330/- for Reserved category.

    T.Y.B.Sc. (Computer Science): You should have passed in all subjects of F. Y. & S.Y. B. Sc. (Comp. Sc.) or equivalent exam of other universities. Also accepted is a pass in all subjects of F.Y.B. Sc. (Comp. Sc.) and failed not more than 200 marks in S.Y.B.Sc. (Comp. Sc.) from the University of Mumbai.
    Fee: Rs.16,360/- for General category; Rs. 580/- for Reserved category.



    PG Arts courses

    M.A. Part I: You should have a Bachelor's Degree in any subject from a Statutory University.
    Fee: Rs.5,075/- for General category; Rs. 330/- for Reserved category.

    M.A. Part II: You should have passed in M.A. Part I on or before the commencement of M.A. Part II exam. You cannot appear for the Part-II exam if you did not pass the Part-I exam.
    Fee: Rs. 4,300/- for General category; Rs. 580/- for Reserved category.

    M.A. Part-I (Education): You should have passed the B.Ed./B.A. with Education as one of the elective paper from the University of Mumbai or any other statutory University. Note that students who have passed B.P.Ed., B.Ed. (Physical), B.Ed. (Spl. Edu.) etc are ineligible to apply for admission.
    Fee: Rs. 7, 050/- for General category; Rs. 7, 050/- for Reserved category.

    M.A. Part- II (Education): You should have passed in M.A. (Edu.) Part I on or before the commencement of M.A. (Edu.) Part II exam. You cannot appear for the Part-II exam if you did not pass the Part-I exam.
    Fee: Rs. 5, 950/- for General category; Rs. 5, 950/- for Reserved category.

    PG Commerce courses

    M.Com. Part-I: You should have passed B.Com./BMS/BBI/BAF Degree/BMM only for Management specialization.
    Fee: Rs.5,075/- for General category; Rs. 330/- for Reserved category.

    M.Com. Part-II: You should have passed M.Com. Part-I on or before the commencement of the M.Com. Part II exam. You cannot appear for the Part-II exam if you did not pass the Part-I exam.
    Fee: Rs. 4, 300/- or General category; f Rs. 580/- or Reserved category.

    PG Science courses

    MA/M.Sc. Part-I (Mathematics): You should have passed T.Y.B.A./B.Sc. with Mathematics as a major subject.
    Fee: Rs. 4, 975/- for General category; Rs. 330/- for Reserved category.

    MA/M.Sc. Part-II (Mathematics): You should have passed MA/M.Sc. Part-I (Mathematics) on or before the commencement of the MA/M.Sc. Part-II (Mathematics) exam. You cannot appear for the Part-II exam if you did not pass the Part-I exam.
    Fee: Rs. 4, 300/- for General category; Rs. 580/- for Reserved category.

    M.Sc. (I.T.) Part I: You should have passed B. Sc. with IT/Computer Science/Maths/Physics/ Statistics/Electronics or BCS or B.E. with minimum 45% marks (minimum 40% for reserved category students).
    Fee: Rs. 11,575/- for General category; Rs. 330/- for Reserved category.

    M.Sc. (I.T.) Part II: You should have passed M.Sc. (I.T.) Part I on or before the commencement of the M.Sc. (I.T.) Part II exam. You cannot appear for the Part-II exam if you did not pass the Part-I exam.
    Fee: Rs. 10,800/- for General category; Rs. 580/- for Reserved category.

    M.Sc. Part I (Computer Science): You should have passed in B.Sc. with Statistics or Physics or Mathematics or B.Sc. Comp. Sc. or B Sc. IT and BCS or BE in any branch.
    Fee: Rs. 11,575/- for General category; Rs. 330/- for Reserved category.

    M.Sc. Part II (Computer Science): You should have passed M.Sc. Part I (Computer Science) on or before the commencement of the M.Sc. Part II (Computer Science) exam. You cannot appear for the Part-II exam if you did not pass the Part-I exam.
    Fee: Rs. 10,800/- for General category; Rs. 580/- for Reserved category.



    MCA course

    M.C.A. (First Year): You should be a Graduate in any faculty with minimum 45% marks (minimum 40% for reserved category students) and Mathematics at Class XII or at a higher level. Admission to this course will be through an entrance test.
    Fee: Rs. 15,345/- for General category; Rs. 330/- for Reserved category.

    M.C.A. (Second Year): You should have passed the semester I exam and satisfactorily completed the terms for Semester II [refer to the official notification to know the terms for admission to semesters III and IV].
    Fee: Rs. 14,845/- for General category; Rs. 330/- for Reserved category.

    M.C.A. (Third Year): You should have passed the Semester III exam and satisfactorily completed the course for Semester IV [refer to the official notification to know the terms for admission to semesters V and VI].
    Fee: Rs.14, 095/- for General category; Rs. 580/- for Reserved category.

    Diploma courses

    Post Graduate Diploma course in Financial Management (PGDF) - Semester I & II: You should have a University degree in any faculty and you must be residing within India. Defence Service Personnel may be admitted to the course even if they are not holding a Graduate Degree.
    Fee: Rs. 12,000/- for both, General category and Reserved category.

    PGDFM Part - II (Old 2-year program): You should have passed at least one paper of the First Year of the PGDFM program.
    Fee: Rs. 3, 660/- for both, General category and Reserved category.

    Post Graduate Diploma Course in Operations Research for Management (PGDORM) - Semester I & II: You must have a University degree in any Faculty with two years' working experience in any organization or you should have a recognized professional qualification and at least five years of professional experience. It is also mandatory to be residing within India.
    Fee: Rs. 12,000/- for both, General category and Reserved category.

    PGDORM Part - II (Old Two Year Program): You should have passed at least one paper of the First Year of the PGDORM program.
    Fee: Rs. 3, 660/- for both, General category and Reserved category.

    Additional fees: There is a document verification free of Rs. 400/- if you have passed the Board Exam from a Board other than the Maharashtra State Higher Secondary Certificate Board. Students enrolling for a course through IDOL from any affiliated college of the University of Mumbai need to pay a Transference Certificate Fee of Rs.100/-. There is also an eligibility fee of Rs.220/- for students who have passed their exam from the Maharashtra State University/Board and a fee of Rs.320/- for those from other Boards.

    How to apply for University of Mumbai IDOL admissions

    You need to register and fill up the application form online at the Mumbai University Institute of Distance and Open Learning official website or at the earlier portal. Fees will be accepted through online mode only. The registration and application should be done with a valid email ID and mobile number as these will be required for the application and for later communication.

    Documents required for uploading for the online application:
    1. A scanned copy of a passport-size color photograph (minimum 72 to maximum 150 dpi and 45 mm high and 35 mm wide) against a white background.

    2. A clear scanned copy of your signature against a white background.

    3. Scanned copies of all the required mark-sheets and certificates of the last qualifying exam.

    4. A scanned copy of the Caste Certificate, if applicable.
