This is the ninth article in the series of articles on the leading branded colleges of Anna University in Chennai. It should be noted that in this series, we are discussing only about Chennai colleges. We are not discussing any data or salient feature of any other college in other cities. This is deliberately done to enable the reader to follow the colleges properly and avoid confusion.

Engineering College and in the eighth article in this series, Leading Branded Colleges of Anna University in Chennai - 8, we discussed the salient features of the Tagore Engineering College and the Mohammed Sathak College of Engineering.
In this article, we will discuss a) A Special Note on the Branded Colleges of Anna University and this series of articles b) What is special about the Chennai Institute of Technology and c) What is special about the Anand Institute of Higher Technology. A special note on the branded colleges of Anna University
This series on Anna University-affiliated branded colleges is based on research and industry opinion. A Brand, for the purpose of this series, refers to the brand equity of the particular college. This series is not based on any other ranking, published in any journal, or business magazine. It is specific to a city and only the top colleges of the city will be discussed. This is primarily to avoid any controversy at any stage, as India Study Channel is a website that is totally neutral in these matters.
Secondly, the articles do not follow any major order. The series merely covers the best branded colleges of the city, and the brand, as far as this series goes, refers only to four parameters, namely, the quality of students, the Faculty Team, Placement Records and the quality of research. Add ons like discipline, as gathered from industry sources are mentioned at appropriate places. It should be noted that all sources of infomation are absolutely confidential. There will not be, even the faintest attempt, to grade any college on any parameter. Only relevant research-based information is primarily provided.
It should also be noted that the series is city-specific. This means the branded colleges will be discussed and those colleges that are normally within the top ten in the Anna University pecking order, will not find any place in the series of the city. For example, the PSG College of Technology, the Coimbatore Institute of Technology and the Government College of Technology, all of which are based in Coimbatore, will immediately follow the likes of SSN in the State pecking order and will be grabbed by the best students. However, this is not relevant for this current Chennai series. Hence, these three colleges will be discussed when we shift to the series on Coimbatore colleges. It should be noted that the series will focus only on colleges that have stayed on and are improving day after day and not the colleges that are in trouble or in the stage of extinction. Tamil Nadu is home to some 150 colleges in that stage as well. These colleges will not be discussed at all. What is special about the Chennai Institute of Technology
This is the second best college of Anna University, in terms of results. That is, with the largest number of candidates with very high percentage of marks and ranks in the University examinations.
The college enjoys a pride of place as a college of choice among the best students. It offers all the conventional courses and there is no new course at all. For example, the B.E course in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science is also offered by many other colleges. Of course, this college also offers the ME Applied Electronics course. This course is reportedly very famous in this college.
What then makes the vital difference? It is the quality of inputs provided by the high quality faculty team and the efforts of the placement team to bring the best of companies to the college for campus placement, which is, 92% upto March 2020. One is also told that some placements have also happened since then. The details provided in the website about applied research facilities is really informative.
The college has many centers for research and one of these is the Centre For High Tech Hydroponics R&D. The website mentions the Mission of this center as "Mission of Hi-tech Hydroponics R&D Centre is to research how engineering and technology can be applied to traditional hydroponics to improve the efficiency and reduce the complexity of urban farming". Since urban spaces are becoming so scarce and the food requirements of those who stay in the big metro cities have to come from the villages that surround the cities, the technology being developed by the college and also being seriously further explored for application in terms of a quantum jump in improving urban farming, is a big improvement and is unique to this college.
The Center of Excellence for Industrial Automation is also doing good research. And the Center for Artirficial Intelligence and Research is also reportedly doing a good deal of applied research. It is perhaps for this quality of research that the Chennai Institute of Technology is a leading branded college of Anna University in Chennai.

This college is a part of the famous Kalasilangam group of colleges. Among several other colleges, this group runs a high-quality Deemed University at Srivilliputhur, a small town in deep South Tamil Nadu.
Like the Chennai Institute of Technology, this college also offers all the conventional courses. The only different course is the B.Tech course in architechture. There is always a big demand for architects in our country and those who want to avail the services of architects to design their houses in a very scientific way, will always seek the help and expertise of architects. Those who want to know more about this course may refer to B.Tech Architechture
The emphasis is on providing good quality education. This college may not figure among the first 25 best branded colleges of Anna University (including branded colleges of other big cities like Coimbatore and Madurai), but will find a place in the branded colleges of Chennai. For example, it has placed 307 students so far through the campus placement facility for this year and the efforts are ongoing to place more students. This institute also has research grants from the AICTE for various projects. A research conducted by a senior Faculty Member of the ECE department of this college has obtained a grant of Rs.14 lakhs from the DRDO.
Over the past few years, the college has reportedly improved the quality of inputs provided in the conventional courses. It has given a lot of emphasis on training of students for campus placement and it is reported that this college is famous in the OMR area of Chennai city, for this facility. It is also reported that it opens up its facilities for group campus placement, where students of different colleges assemble for the written test, group discussions and the interviews. That is, some sort of job fairs are conducted in this college. The unique selling proposition is that it attracts rural students from the South of Tamil Nadu, from the villages near cities like Madurai, Virudhunagar and so on, and part of this can be explained from the link of this college to the Kalasilingam Deemed University. The students get the urban exposure of the Chennai metropolis and this helps in campus placement at some point in time.
It is for this reason that the Anand Institute of Higher Technology Chennai has emerged as a good branded college of Anna University.
