About Scheme

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Government of India, Ministry of Defence has recently announced the DRDO Scholarship Scheme for Girls through Aeronautics Research and Development Board (AR&DB). The scholarship scheme aims to support the talented girls engineering students across the country. Recruitment & Assessment Centre, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Delhi has invited online applications from the girl candidates for DRDO Scholarship Scheme for Girls through RAC website (https://rac.gov.in)

Details of Scholarship Scheme

Name of Scheme: DRDO Scholarship Scheme for Girls in Aerospace Engineering / Aeronautical Engineering / Space Engineering & Rocketry / Avionics / Aircraft Engineering for FY 20-21.

Categories of Scholarship

1. Under Graduate Level (BE/ B.Tech/ B.Sc. Engineering)

No. of Scholarships: 20
Emoluments: Rs.1,20,000 per annum will be paid to scholars for a maximum period of four years.

2. Post Graduate Level (ME/ M.Tech/ M.Sc. Engineering)

No. of Scholarships: 10
Emoluments: Rs.15,500/- per month (Rs.186000/- per year) will be paid to the scholars for a maximum period of two years.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Candidate must be an Indian National.
  • Only female candidates are eligible to apply for the scheme.
  • Under Graduate Level
    1. The candidate must be studying in the 1st year of the current academic year (2020-21) to the full-time four-year undergraduate degree programme BE/ B.Tech/B.Sc. Engineering course.
    2. To get admission to the subject course, the candidate must have secured at least 60% marks in the qualifying exam as per the guidelines of AICTE/MHRD. In the case of CGPA, conversion of CGPA to the percentage will be done as per set guidelines of AICTE. For this purpose, CGPA/CPI of 6.75 (for a 10 point scale) will be taken as equivalent to 60%.
    3. Candidate should have cleared JEE (Main) and have a valid JEE(Main) score.
  • Post Graduate Level
    1. Candidate should have enrolled in the 1st year of the current academic year (2020-21) to the two years full-time postgraduate degree course ME/M.Tech./ M.Sc. Engineering course.
    2. To get admission to the subject course, the candidate must have secured at least 60% marks in the qualifying exam as per the guidelines of AICTE/MHRD. In the case of CGPA, conversion of CGPA to the percentage will be done as per set guidelines of AICTE. For this purpose, CGPA/CPI of 6.75 (for a 10 point scale) will be taken as equivalent to 60%.
    3. Candidate should have a valid GATE (General Aptitude Test in Engineering) score.

Registration Process

The registration for the scheme is being done online through the website of Recruitment & Assessment Centre, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Delhi (rac.gov.in). The applicants must check the eligibility criteria as per the official notification before applying. After registration, the candidates will have to apply for the scholarship in the online application form. Care must be taken while filling the details in the online application form as wrong or any misleading information may cause the cancellation of the application. Besides, scanned copies of the requisite documents must be uploaded on the website., without which the application will be considered as incomplete and will be summarily rejected. Further, the candidate must finally submit the filled-in application. The applications which are not finally submitted by the candidates will be automatically rejected by the computer-based system. Hence, the candidate must finally apply along with all requisite documents.

Documents to be Uploaded

The candidates keep ready the following documents while filling the online application form:
  • Scanned copy of the requisite Documents like:
    1. Age proof
    2. Mark sheets and certificates of Educational Qualifications
    3. Valid JEE (Main)/GATE Scorecard.
  • Recent passport size colour photograph (max. size 50 KB)
  • Aadhaar Card (max 500 KB)
  • Proof of admission (max 500 KB)
  • Fees details (max 500 KB)
  • Certificate from Institute (max 500 KB)

After the final submission of the online application form, the candidate must take a print out of finally submitted /locked application for future reference.

Document Verification

Original documents are required to be produced at the time of document verification in the institute, and a certificate has to be forwarded to AR&DB in this regard by the candidate's institute.

Selection Procedure

  • Selection of students who are doing the undergraduate course will be based on the merit of the JEE (Main) exam score. The candidates must have a valid JEE (Main) score. Otherwise, their applications will not be considered.
  • The students who are studying in postgraduate courses will be selected based on the merit of GATE score. They must have a valid GATE score. Otherwise, their applications will not be considered.
  • List of candidates who will be selected for the scholarship will be made available at AR&DB website: https://www.drdo.gov.in/drdo/boards/ardb/index.htm. Candidate must check the AR&DB website regularly.
  • After selection, the scholarship grant will be disbursed to the Candidate's institute. Selected candidates will receive a scholarship through their respective Institute. Thereafter grant will be disbursed to the selected candidate's Institute on submission of the contingent bill with ECS mandate.

Continuation of Scholarship

During the scholarship period, tests and examinations will be conducted which are required to be passed by the Post Graduate and Under Graduate scholars and obtain a cumulative grade point average of 7.00 or 70% marks. The scholars must pass these exams and those who will not be able to pass these exams; the scholarship amount will not be disbursed to them. A list will be prepared of the students those who qualify the tests /examinations and will be sent to the AR&DB for further processing of the release of the grant to the Grantee institution. A separate list of the students whose scholarship will be discontinued will be forwarded to the AR&DB from the institutes for the record.

Important Note

  1. In case if a candidate cannot pass the test/exam and her scholarship is discontinued, then it will not be continued further, despite qualifying the eligibility in the later years.
  2. Any students can avail only one scholarship at a time and an undertaking in this regard has to be furnished by the students and it should be countersigned by the candidate's institute.

Terms and conditions

  1. Mere possession of Essential Qualifications and JEE (Main) and GATE valid score does not guarantee the scholarship.
  2. There is no bond obligation in this scholarship scheme. However, the scholars will have to complete their final year project work at DRDO/ Govt. Labs.
