How to apply for Army Public Schools CSB online recruitment exam for 2021-22 teaching jobs


Are you looking for the notification for APS November 2020 screening recruitment exam for a teaching vacancy at an Army Public School in India? The Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) has issued the notification with guidelines for candidates keen to register for the Combined Selection Screening Exam that is the first step for eligibility for a teaching job as PGT or TGT or PRT in an Army Public School (APS) in India. The 137 schools are under the management of AWES and follow the CBSE curriculum. Those candidates who are selected for a regular teaching position may be liable for transfer to another APS, while a few teaching vacancies may be on a contract basis at only a particular school for a fixed duration of time. There are likely to be over 2000 vacancies, with each APS putting up a notification of the specific number of vacancies and the selection procedure at their school.

Once the result of the exam is declared, you will be issued a Scorecard that will allow you to appear for any additional interview and other procedures for selection at the APS. The school will then take the decision whether or not you are eligible for the teaching post for which you applied. Note that while the scorecard as permanent validity, it is mandatory for you to take up an APS teaching post within three years of the scorecard being issued and be in the teaching post for at least one year.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, it is important to pay attention and strictly adhere to the instructions for safety precautions to be taken at the exam center where you will appear for the online screening test and make sure that you have the Admit Card to be shown at the center at the time of the test.



Eligibility criteria for APS CSB recruitment exam registration

Candidates can register for the exam for posts of PGT/TGT/PRT for all subjects, ensuring that they fulfill the eligibility criteria for each as per the requirement.

The subjects for APS PGT teaching positions are English, Hindi, History, Geography, Economics, Political Science, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Psychology, Commerce, Computer Science/ Informatics, Home Science, and Physical Education.

The subjects for APS TGT teaching positions are English, Hindi, Sanskrit, History, Geography, Political Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science/Informatics, and Physical Education.

Age criteria

For freshers: If you are a fresh candidate and have fewer than five years of teaching experience, the age should be below 40 years of age. However, if you are applying for a teaching job in an APS in New Delhi, then you should be in the age bracket as per Delhi School Education Act & Rules.

For experienced teachers: If you are an experienced candidate with over five years of teaching experience in the last 10 years, the age should be below 57 years.

Experience criteria

You can register for the exam even with zero to five years of teaching experience but must fulfill the age criteria as mentioned above and have a recognized Graduate/Postgraduate qualification. In case you are registering for the Combined Selection Screening Exam as an experienced candidate, this should include at least five years of teaching experience during the last 10 years.

Although Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET)/Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is not mandatory for appearing for the screening exam, the CTET/TET conducted by the Central Govt. of a State Govt. is a mandatory requirement for appointment as a TGT and PRT. In case you do not acquire this qualification, then your appointment will be on an 'Adhoc' basis till you attain the requisite qualification.

Educational qualifications

For PGT teaching post: You must have a recognized Post Graduate degree with a minimum of 50% marks and a professional B.Ed. Degree with a minimum of 50% marks. Accordingly, here are the qualifications you require (in the case of some subjects, an alternate qualification that is acceptable is also mentioned)-
  1. For English: Masters Degree in English and B.Ed.

  2. For Hindi: Masters Degree in Hindi and B.Ed.

  3. For History: Master's Degree in History and B.Ed.

  4. For Geography: Master's Degree in Geography and B.Ed.

  5. For Economics: Master's Degree in Economics and B.Ed.

  6. For Political Science: Masters Degree in Politics. Alternate - an M.A. in Public Administration/International relations and B.Ed.

  7. For Maths: Master's Degree in Maths. Alternate - Postgraduation in Statistics/Operational Research, but this must be preceded by a Graduate degree in Maths or an M.Sc. Ed. In Maths from the Regional Institute of Education (RIE, formerly known as Regional College of Education, that is, RCE) of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and B.Ed.

  8. For Physics: Master's Degree in Physics. Alternate - an M.Sc.Ed. in Physics from RCE, NCERT and B.Ed.

  9. For Chemistry: Master's Degree in Chemistry. Alternate - Biochemistry or a Postgraduation in Pharma Chemistry, but this must be preceded by a Graduate degree in Chemistry or an M.Sc. Ed. In Chemistry from RCE, NCERT and B.Ed.

  10. For Biology: Master's Degree in Zoology (with Botany)/Masters Degree in Botany/Botany (with Zoology). Alternate - Postgraduation in Microbiology/Molecular Biology/Agricultural Botany/Genetics, but this should be preceded by a Graduate degree in Botany/Zoology or an M.Sc. Ed. in Zoology/ Botany from RCE, NCERT and B. Ed.

  11. For Biotechnology: Master's Degree in Biotechnology/relevant subjects and B.Ed.

  12. For Psychology: Master's Degree in Psychology and B.Ed.

  13. For Commerce: Master's Degree in Commerce and B.Ed.

  14. For Computer Science Informatics: M.Tech. in Computer science/IT/ Computer Engineering/ Electronics/ Electronics & Communications. Alternative - MCA/MSc Computer Science/IT; or M.Sc. Maths/Physics/Statistics and BSc Computer Science/BCA/3-year Diploma in Computer Engineering or IT/PGDCA recognized by AICTE; or B-Level from DOEACC.

  15. For Home Science: Master's Degree in Home Science and B.Ed.

  16. For Physical Education: Master's Degree in Physical Education.

For TGT Teachers: You should have a Graduate degree with a minimum of 50% marks and a professional B.Ed. Degree with a minimum of 50% marks. If you have a Postgraduate Degree with less than 50% marks in the Graduate exam but have scored more than 50% marks in the Postgraduate exam with the subject applied, then also you can apply for a TGT teaching post.

Accordingly, the qualifications as per subject for a TGT post are as follows-
  1. For English: Degree in English. Alternate - BA Ed with English from RCE, NCERT and B.Ed.

  2. For Hindi: Degree in Hindi. Alternate - BA Ed with Hindi from RCE, NCERT and B.Ed.

  3. For Sanskrit: Degree in Sanskrit. Alternate - BA Ed with Sanskrit from RCE, NCERT and B.Ed.

  4. For History: Degree in History. Alternate - BA Ed with History from RCE, NCERT and B.Ed.

  5. For Geography: Degree in Geography. Alternate - BA Ed with Geography from RCE, NCERT and B.Ed.
  6. For Political Science: Degree in Politics. Alternate - BA Ed with Political Science from RCE, NCERT and B.Ed.

  7. For Maths: Degree in Maths. Alternate - BA Ed with Maths from RCE, NCERT and B.Ed.

  8. For Physics: Degree in Physics. Alternate - BSc Ed from RCE, NCERT and B.Ed.
  9. For Chemistry: Degree in Chemistry. Alternate - BSc Ed from RCE, NCERT and B.Ed.
  10. For Biology: Degree with Botony & Zoology; or B.Sc. Home Science with B.Ed.

  11. For Computer: BCA or Graduate in Computer Science or BE/B.Tech (Computer Science /IT). Alternate - Graduate in any subject and A-level course from DOEACC, Ministry of Info & Communication & Technology, GOI.

  12. For Physical Education: B.P.Ed. four-year Degree Course; or three-year Gradation and also one year B.P.Ed Diploma; or B.Sc Physical Education, Health Education & Sports + one year B.P.Ed Diploma.

For PRT Teachers: You must have a Graduate degree with minimum 50% marks with a two-year Diploma of D.El.Ed.. Alternative - B.Ed./four-year integrated course of B.Ed in elementary education), in which case the B.Ed(other than in elementary education), you will need to do a Bridge Course of six months in Elementary Education within one year of the appointment to the teaching post.

Selection process

AWES will conduct the online recruitment screening exam on 21st and 22nd November 2020. In case you already have a scorecard from a previous Combined Selection Screening Exam, then you can apply again this time as well if (a) you would like to improve your score; and (b) you would like to obtain an upgraded scorecard (example you hold a TGT scorecard and wish to obtain a PGT scorecard if you are eligible for a PGT teaching post).

Once the result is out, you can appear for an interview at an APS school, with the school issuing a notification of the list of vacacncies in the media and at their website. Note that the interview may not necessarily be at the school itself where there is a vacancy. In the case of a teaching vacancy for a language, you will need to appear for a written test that will have an essay and comprehension of 15 marks each. An additional test to analyze your teaching skills may also be conducted by the school, as also a computer proficiency test if required.



Format of online AWES CSB screening exam

The Test is an online one with objective-type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ). The non-refundable exam fee for all candidates is Rs. 500/-.

For PGT/ TGT Teachers, there are two parts in the exam. Part A, which is of 90 minutes, includes General Awareness, Mental Ability, English Comprehension, Educational Concepts and Methodology, Inclusive education, and IT. Part B will cover matter specific to the subject. In the case of the test papers of Science and Social Sciences, some of the questions will be pertaining to relevant parallel subjects, such as MCQs of Chemistry and Biology for the TGT paper of Physics.

Note that a PGT/TGT candidate who fails in Part B but passes Part A has the option to take a scorecard for a PRT post in case the eligibility criteria for the PRT is fulfilled. For the PGT and TGT papers, both Part A and Part B will be available at one time so you can choose to answer either one first.

For PRT Teachers, the exam has only one section with MCQs General Awareness, Mental Ability, English Comprehension, Educational Concepts and Methodology, Inclusive education, and IT. It is of 90 minutes' duration with 90 marks.

Marking system: In case of a wrong answer, one-fourth marks will be deducted and the eventual score will be normalized to 100. You must score a minimum of 50% (in each part for the 2-part exam) to qualify for the teaching post.

Sample papers of APS Combined Selection Screening Exam

You can log in to your account after successful registration and obtain sample papers to practice for the exam. First, you need to make an online payment (offline modes of payment are not accepted) of Rs.50 for each of the two parts and then log in again after 24 hours to access and download the papers. However, sample question papers for newly introduced subjects may not be available.

How to register for AWES Combined Selection Screening Exam

Registration will be done only online at the official AWES Combined Selection Screening Exam registration website which will be open from 1st October 2020 at 10a.m. to 20th October 2020 up to 5p.m. Please read the complete guidelines before starting the registration procedure.

The first step in the online registration process is to fill in the personal details. The second step is to pay the fee of Rs. 500/- with a Debit card or a Credit Card or via Net banking. The third step tis to upload the requisite documents, the list of which is given below-

Once you have successfully completed the registration process, you will see a message of confirmation on your screen and receive an intimation via email and SMS, as well. In case of any problems during the online procedure, refer to the Helpline tab at the official website http://aps-csb.in.

Important dates

Registration begins: 1st October 2020.
Registration ends: 20th October 2020.
Admit Cards will be available on 4th November 2020 (this is a tentative date).

Declaration of the result: 2nd December 2020 (this is a tentative date).



After the result

When the result of the exam is announced, you can download the Combined Selection Screening Exam Scorecard and laminate it. Then keep an eagle eye APS recruitment notifications in local/national newspapers and at the APS websites as well. The website will have the application form that you can download, fill up and submit within the time fram that is given by the school to submit the application.
