DHE Assam Combined Merit Scholarship 2020 - Know about eligibility and application process


The Directorate of Higher Education Government of Assam has released the official notification inviting applications for the Combined Merit Scholarship, 2020. This article gives all the relevant details regarding the scholarship, including the eligibility criteria, the documents required, and also the application process. Introduction

The Directorate of Higher Education, Assam is inviting applications for the DHE Combined Merit Scholarship scheme 2020. Please note that this scholarship scheme is only for those students who are permanent residents of Assam and are studying in a recognized educational institution in the state, either at the Undergraduate (UG) or the Postgraduate (PG) level. The candidate can be of any of the three streams, Science, Humanities (Arts), or Commerce. Thus the eligibility criteria are as follows:
  • The student must be a domicile of Assam. In other words, a Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) is mandatory. Also, he/she should be enrolled in a recognized educational institution in the state either at the UG or the PG level as already mentioned.

  • The student must have a valid bank account in his/her name. According to the official notification (available in the attachment section at the bottom of this article), it is preferable to have an account at SBI although other bank accounts are also permitted. The scholarship amount will be transferred to the eligible candidates through the DBT system.

  • UG students applying for this scholarship should have secured at least 60% marks in their Higher Secondary examination (i.e. their Class 12 examination or equivalent) while PG students should have at least 60% marks (or equivalent grade point) in their UG exams.

Please note that securing the minimum percentage of marks is not a guarantee of securing the scholarship as the lists will be prepared based on merit. Also, the number of scholarships available has not been announced in the official notification. It has only been mentioned that the number of scholarships will depend upon the budgetary allocation. The scholarship amount for UG students is Rs 300 per month while for PG students it is Rs 500 per month.

How to apply

The application for the scholarship scheme will have to be done online through the official website of the Directorate of Higher Education, Assam at www.directorateofhighereducation.assam.gov.in between 13th October to 3rd November 2020. After entering the necessary details and submitting the required documents, the student has to take a printout of the application form and then submit it to the Registrar/Principal/Head of the Institution along with copies of the certificates. Then the documents will be scrutinized at the institution level after which they will be sent to the office of the DHE. Then a merit list will be prepared based on the approved applications received. The merit list will be uploaded to the DHE official website as well. The entire step by step application process is summarised as follows:
  • Visit the official website of DHE Assam (directorateofhighereducation.assam.gov.in). Scroll down and click on the "Apply for scholarship" link.

  • You will then be directed to the scholarship portal designed by Amtron. Here the details of the available scholarships are given. Scroll down to find the registration option. Remember that you will need a valid email ID for this. Once the registration is completed, proceed to login using your data.

  • After the login is done you will be able to access the application form for the scholarship. Choose the relevant options. Enter your personal and educational details as required. Also, upload all the necessary documents. The detailed list of documents is given below.

  • After all the necessary information has been entered, submit the application form. Then take a printout of it and submit it to your institution where the institute level verification will be conducted.


Documents required

The following documents will be required to apply for this scholarship:
  • Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) issued by the DC/SDO. This is mandatory as it shows the domicile status of the candidate.

  • Certificate from the Registrar/Head of the institution where the candidate is currently studying.

  • Final mark sheet of the last qualifying examination. For the UG students, the Class 12 mark sheet has to be submitted while for PG students, the UG certificate will have to be submitted.

  • Photograph and signature of the candidate.
