So, to cater to the internship needs of the students and to give them exposure to the real-time work environment, many educational institutions, training institutes, research centers, NGOs, IT companies, etc in India provide internship opportunities for the students with and without a stipend. Other than the regular internships offered by various private organizations, the Government of India also conducts many Government Internship Programmes every academic year for the students who are pursuing their UG and PG degree in Arts, Science, Engineering, Management, Law, etc. Mentioned below is a list of top Government Internship Programmes in India for the UG, PG and research students.

1. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Internships

The Reserve Bank of India(RBI) offers two internship programs - Summer Internships and Research Internships. For the Summer Placement Internships, the students from India as well as abroad who are pursuing either a Postgraduate course or an Integrated five-year course in fields such as Banking, Statistics, Commerce, Economics, Management, Law, Finance or Econometrics can apply. Also, those who are studying a 3-year full-time professional Bachelor's degree in Law and five-year Law program are also eligible. Every year, the Summer Internship program for the Indian Students will be conducted from April to July at the Central Office in Mumbai or at any one of the 16 Control Offices in different cities in India. For foreign students, the internship program will be conducted at the Central Office in Mumbai from July to October. During the internship program, the selected interns will be assigned to a particular department and will be mentored by a senior RBI official. The selected interns will be given a stipend amount of Rs.20,000/- per month. RBI conducts various research internship programs for postgraduate students in Economics, Statistics, Banking, Finance, etc. at Mumbai. Also, B.E and B.Tech students can apply for the Strategic Research Unit (SRU) internship of RBI. The duration of the internships is 6 months and it may extend also. The selected interns on successful completion of the research internships will be given a stipend of Rs 45,000/- per month. RBI will not provide accommodation to the interns but it will give a workspace, network connectivity and other relevant resources. 2. NITI Aayog Internships

National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, the modern version of the Planning Commission of India conducts an internship program for the UG, PG and research scholars from recognized universities/institutes in India and abroad. Students from all fields and disciplines can apply for this internship program. The duration of the NITI Aayog Internship will be a minimum of six weeks and can be extended up to six months. The NITI internship will cover a wide range of areas such as Agriculture, Governance, Foreign Trade, Economics, Skill development, Science & Technology, Sports, Tourism & Culture, etc. This internship scheme will be available all over the year depending upon the need of NITI Aayog.

During the internship program, the selected interns will be given a chance to associate with various divisions of NITI Aayog and learn the functioning of the government and its various policies for development. No stipend will be provided. The interns will have to use their own laptops while attending the internship. At the end of the internship program, the interns will have to submit a paper/report about the experiences of their learning to the heads/in-charge of the respective domain/units. 3. Digital India Internship Scheme-Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY)

The Digital India Internship Scheme is an internship program organized by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology every year for engineering students. The Indian students who are pursuing their regular, dual degree or integrated degree courses (B.E/B.Tech/MCA/M.E/M.Tech) in the branches of Computer Science/Information Technology/Electronics and Communication Engineering from any recognized Indian Universities can apply for the Digital India Internship Scheme. In this internship program, the selected interns will be given opportunities to work on information technology projects with the central government for a duration of 2 to 3 months. The internships will be mostly conducted in the month of May to July.

The students who are selected for the Digital India internship program will be allotted the internship projects in New Delhi. No accommodation and stipend will be provided for the interns. During the internship period, the interns will have to work under a Scientific/Technical Project Supervisor/Mentor from the Ministry. At the end of the internship program, the interns will have to prepare and submit a project report based on the work they have undertaken. 4. Ministry of External Affairs(MEA) Internships

The Ministry of External Affairs conducts an internship program for the graduates, research scholars and the final year students of an undergraduate program. It is one valuable internship program in India where the interns will get an opportunity to interact with officers of IFS rank and gain knowledge about the operations of various divisions of MEA. The duration of the internship program varies from 1 month to 6 months.

The interns selected for MEA Internship will be assigned to any of the MEA Divisions and will be expected work under the Head of Division (HOD) or Head of Mission (HOM) or Head of Post (HOP) in the headquarters of the ministry (MEA) or its Missions/Posts. As a part of the internship program, the interns will have to analyze any specific development related to the foreign affairs of India and prepare reports. 5. Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) Internships

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) conducts an internship training program every year for the research scholars and the UG and PG students who are studying in the recognized University/Institution within India or abroad. The disciplines of internships include Botany, Zoology, Wildlife, Environmental Sciences, Forestry/ Agro forestry/ Livelihood, etc. For this internship, high preference will be given to MSc. or PGDM students from the Indian Institute of Forest Management(IIFM). The MoEFCC internship will be conducted twice in a financial year(during summer and winter). The maximum duration of the internship is 3 months.

During the internship program, the selected interns will have to report daily and complete the tasks assigned to them. The interns will have to carry their own laptops while attending the internship. No boarding, lodging and transportation will be provided to the interns. The ministry will only provide working space and an internet facility. At the end of the MoEFCC internships, the interns must submit a concise report of their project work to the Heads of the concerned Divisions/ Units. Other than the MoEFCC Internship Scheme, the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau(WCCB) which is operating Under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) also organizes a summer and winter internship program on every year for the Indian students who are pursuing their UG, PG and Diploma degree in Zoology, Botany, Law, Wildlife Biology and any other subjects related to Wildlife Management, Conservation and Protection. The duration of the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau Internship Programme is one month. The internship will focus on various criminal activities and issues involved in wildlife. At the end of the internship, the interns will have to submit a report and on satisfactory completion of the internship, the WCCB will issue an internship completion certificate. 6. Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) Internship Scheme

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries conducts an internship program for the research scholars and the students who are pursuing their UG and PG degree in Food Technology, Food Engineering, Food Science, Agriculture, Horticulture, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, MBA in Rural Management, MBA in Supply Chain Management and M.Sc. with Food and Agriculture. This internship program will be available throughout the year on a quarterly basis based on the requirement of MoFPI. Through this internship program, the ministry will give exposure to the interns about the various division within MoFPI and food processing industries in India. The duration of the internship will be at least 6 weeks but not more than 3 months.

The areas of MoFPI Internships include mega food parks, operation greens, Abattoir, TUS, Food Testing Laboratories(FUL), Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises, etc. No remuneration, traveling allowance and accommodation will be given to the interns. 7. National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Internships

To create awareness among the students about the Human Rights, the NHRC of India conducts Summer and Winter Internship Programmes for the students who are pursuing their degree in LL.B, LL.M, BA LL.B, B.B.A LL.B, M.S.W, PG Diploma in Human Rights and M.A in Human Rights, Sociology, Anthropology, Public Administration, Rural Development, etc. The duration of the internship program is one month (30 days). Every year, the NHRC will organize the summer internship from May to June and the winter internship from December to January.

The location of the internship is in New Delhi. For the interns outside New Delhi, the NHRC will give traveling allowance for Ordinary Second-Class Train Fare to New Delhi and back to their place of study through the shortest route. Also, the interns will be provided with a Kit/Bag containing NHRC reading material and a temporary identity card. The internship program mainly concentrates on the need for protection and promotion of Human Rights. As a part of the internship program, the interns will be given an opportunity to attend classroom sessions, visit Police stations, Jail, NGOs, Juvenile Home and Old Age Home, do a book review from NHRC Library, etc. The NHRC will give an internship completion certificate and a stipend amount of Rs 8,000/- after the successful completion of the internship program. 8. Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) Internships

To give knowledge to the students about the existing official statistical system of India with respect to data collection, processing & analysis, publication and dissemination needs, the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) conducts a 2-month summer internship program for the postgraduate and research students of the statistics field. Indian students who are pursuing their research or post-graduation degree in Statistics, Operational Research, Economics, Demography, or any of the applied fields of Statistics courses from any recognized Indian Universities/Colleges/Research Institutes can apply for the MoSPI Internship Scheme.

The internship training will be conducted in the Government Statistical offices located in New Delhi and in other parts of India. During the internship program, the selected interns will be given a minimum logistics support such as a computer, internet, office space, etc. along with permission to access the Library/Office and interact with the concerned Division(s)/Officer through the guide. The ministry will not provide accommodation, Travelling Allowance, or Daily allowance for the interns.
