How to apply online for Dibrugarh University PG Entrance Test (DUPGET) 2020


The Dibrugarh University has released the official notification for the PG Entrance Test (DUPGET 2020) for the session 2020-21 for the selection of eligible students to the PG programs of DU and its affiliated and autonomous colleges. This article gives all the necessary information regarding the DUPGET, including eligibility, application procedure, and important dates.

Introduction

Established in 1965, Dibrugarh University is one of the leading educational institutes in the North-east. The university is conducting the DUPGET (Dibrugarh University Postgraduate Entrance Test) for the session 2020-21 to select eligible students for various postgraduate courses (including M.A., M.Sc., M.Com. etc) in the university and its affiliated and autonomous colleges.

Courses and eligibility

The list of courses available and the eligibility criteria for each of them are given as follows:
  • Master of Arts (MA) in Anthropology, Assamese, Bodo, Economics, Education, English, Geography, History, Mathematics, Political Science, Philosophy, Sociology and Statistics: The eligibility required is Bachelor's degree with Major/Honours in the relevant subject with 45% marks or equivalent grade point OR Bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks in relevant subject and 45% marks in aggregate in case of candidates of general program.

  • Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Anthropology, Applied Geology, Chemistry, Geography, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Physics and Statistics: The eligibility criteria (minimum marks to be secured) in this case is same as above.

  • Master of Commerce (M.Com.) in (i) Finance and (ii) Marketting: The eligibility criteria is the same as above in this case also.

  • M.Sc. in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics: The candidate needs to have a bachelor's degree from a recognised university/institution in Biological Sciences/ Agricultural Sciences/ Veterinary Sciences/ Pharmaceutical Sciences/ Medical Sciences with minimum 50% in aggregate.

  • M.A. in Mass Communication: The candidate needs to have a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline with at least 45% in Major/Honours or aggregate.

  • M.A. in Applied Psychology: The candidate needs to have a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline (excluding Fine Arts but including Medical and other professional courses) with at least 45% marks in Major/Honours or 50% marks in aggregate.

  • M.A. in Sanitation, Hygiene and Health: Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from a recognised university with at least 45% in Major/Honours or aggregate.

  • M.A. in Women Studies: Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university with at least 45% for Major/Honours students or 50% in aggregate for general graduate.

  • M.Ed. (recognised by NCTE): Should have secured at least 50% marks or equivalent grade in either (i) B.Ed., B.A., B.Sc. or (ii) B.El.Ed. or (iii) D.El.Ed. with an undergraduate degree (with 50% marks in each).

Candidates who are appearing/ have appeared for their end semester examination in 2020 and are waiting for their results are eligible to apply for the DUPGET and will be provisionally admitted if they pass the entrance exam. This also includes students who have a backlog in their 2nd or 4th semesters and are waiting for the results for the same.

Details of the Examination

The examination will be OMR based with the maximum marks being 100 and the time duration is 2 hours. There will be 100 objective-type (MCQ type) questions with each question being worth 1 mark. For every incorrect question, 0.25 marks will be deducted. The question paper will be in English (except for the language-based subjects).
To conduct the examination, the subjects have been divided into four groups – A, B, C, and D. The subjects in each group are as follows:
  • Group A: Anthropology, Applied Geology, Assamese, Chemistry, Education, English, Mathematics, Political Science, Philosophy

  • Group B: Applied Psychology, Biotechnology & Bioinformatics.

  • Group C: Bodo, Economics, History, Life Sciences, Physics, Sociology, Statistics, Geography, Sanitation, Hygiene and Health

  • Group D: Mass Communication, Women Studies, M.Ed., M.Com in (i) Finance and (ii) Marketing.

Please note that the exam will be conducted in separate time slots for each group. Also, a candidate can apply for a maximum of 3 subjects. However, he cannot apply for more than 1 subject from the same group. Also, note that 80% of the seats will be reserved for graduates from Dibrugarh University and its affiliated colleges while the rest 20% are open for graduates of all other universities/institutes. Nevertheless, appearing in the DUPGET is compulsory for both these groups. After the exam is conducted, the actual admission process will be conducted for the selected students.

Application process

The application process for the DUPGET will be completely online. The step by step application process is given below:
  • The first step is to visit the portal www.dibru.online and register yourself using your mobile number. Then you will receive an "Activation Code" on your mobile number which is to be used for activating your account.

  • After this you are required to log in using your username and password. Then you have to fill the online form providing correct details. Please be very careful while filling out the online form.

  • After this the applicant will need to pay the application fee which is Rs 500. Only online mode of payment (i.e. debit card, credit card, and internet banking) are allowed.

  • The applicant can save, review, and edit his/her data before final submission. However, after final submission, no further editing of the data is possible.

  • After submission of the online application form, the Admit card with a unique roll number will be automatically generated. The candidate is required to take a printout of the Admit card and carry it on the day of the exam.


Examination centers

To conduct the DUPGET, the following examination centers have been selected: Dibrugarh University, Tinsukia College (Tinsukia), Sibsagar College (Sivasagar), J.B. College (Jorhat), DCB Girls College (Jorhat), DKD College (Dergaon), D.R. College (Golaghat), Majuli College (Majuli), North Lakhimpur College (Lakhimpur), Dhemaji College (Dhemaji), Sonari College (Charaideo) and NERIM (Guwahati). Note that each center has a unique center code. Please refer to the notification for the same.

Important dates

  • Starting date of online application – from 23rd October onwards.

  • Closing date of online application – 3rd November (the application process will end at 5 pm)

  • Entrance exam – on 17th and 18th November (Please note that the exact date and time slot is assigned based on the subject group i.e. Group A, Group B, etc. as mentioned earlier in the article. Please check the notification attached to this article for more detail on this).

  • Date of admission – To be updated later (please check their official website for this).
