Navodya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), which is an autonomous organization under the aegis of the Central Government's Department of School Education & Literacy, HRD Ministry, has announced admissions open for Class VI in Jawahar Navodya Vidyalayas (JNVs) for the academic session of 2021-2022.

As per Government norms, a minimum of 75% of the seats will be reserved for children from schools in rural areas and the remaining from the District of the urban areas (urban area as per the 2011 Census notification). Further, one-third of the seats are reserved for girls, 3% for Divyang children, and for SC, ST, OBC as per the current norms.

Applications will be accepted online up to 15th December 2020. Note that No candidate is eligible to appear in the JNV Selection Test (JNVST) for a second time under any circumstances.



Academics and activities at JNV

The goal of a Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya (JNV) is not only to provide free education based on the CBSE Board's curriculum but also to nurture talent and develop their communication, vocational, and other skills through co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The co-ed schools also provide residential hostel accommodation for boys and girls with no extra charge and expenses for basics such as books is also covered. At the higher secondary level only general category students pay an economical fee.

The quality of education is very good, as is reflected in the annual results, with 3586 students having qualified for the JEE-Main 2020 exam out of 8237 students. The pass percentage in the Class X exam for the academic year 2019-20 was 98.66%, while for Class XII it was 98.70%.

Other than hostel blocks and academic classrooms, facilities at a JNV include a gym to keep students fit and develop their neuro-muscular skills, a museum room for showcasing artefacts of the local region to imbibe cultural values, a canteen, a playground, etc.

As part of the co-curricular activities, there are Scout & Guide units and NSS activities to develop leadership skills as also sportsmanship. The spirit of adventure is nurtured through Rifle Shooting, which also develops the skill of concentration and focus that are prove beneficial for a later career in the Armed Forces, and camping trips where trekking, rock climbing, etc are organized. An excellent initiative of the NVS is to establish the Adolescence Education Program (AEP) at all its JNVs. Through this program, gender equality, self-assessment, etc are encourages, as also counseling provided through trained staff of the school's team. JNV Class VI admissions eligibility criteria

Educational qualification

You should be studying in Class V in the academic session 2020-2021 in a Government school or a Government-aided school or a Government-recognized school or a 'B' Certificate Competency Course of National Institute of Open Schooling in the same District where a JNV is functional and to which you are seeking admission to Class VI. It is also mandatory to have studied the full academic session and passed Class III and Class IV from a Government school or a Government-recognized school and studied the full academic session in Class VI in the same District as where you seek admission to Class VI.
Note that if you have not been promoted and admitted to Class-V before 30th September, then you are not eligible to apply for admission to Class VI.

Age criterion

You should be born between 1st May 2008 and 30th April 2012 (both days inclusive). This criterion is required for all categories of candidates.

JNV Class VI admission entrance test

All students seeking admission to Class VI must appear for a JNV Selection Test (JNVST), the test paper set by the CBSE Board. You can appear for the test in any one of these 20 languages- Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, English, Garo, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Khasi, Marathi, Mizo, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Malayalam, Manipuri (Meitei Mayek), Manipuri (Bangla Script), Tamil, Telegu, and Urdu.

There are three sections for the JNVST-
(i) Mental Ability, of 60 minutes duration, has a weightage of 50%.
(ii) Arithmetic, of 30 minutes duration, has a weightage of 25%.
(iii) Language, of 30 minutes duration, has a weightage of 25%.

Important dates

Online registrations open: 22nd October 2020.
Last date for registrations: 15th December 2020.
Date of Selection Test: 10th April 2021 (Saturday).

Parents and students should note that the date of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) 2021 has been rescheduled for admission of students to Class VI for the academic session 2021-22. The new date is as follows-
(i) For all States and Union Territories other than Mizoram, Meghalaya and Nagaland the test will be held on 16th May 2021 (Sunday).
(ii) For the States of Mizoram, Meghalaya and Nagaland the test will be held on 19th June (Saturday) 2021.

Parents and students should note that as per the latest update, the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST)-2021 has once again been rescheduled for admission of students to Class VI for the academic session 2021-22. It will not be held on 16th May 2021. The fresh date will be announced at least two weeks prior to the Test date.
