All India Sainik Schools Entrance Exam (AISSEE) for 2021 admissions online applications


Are you seeking admission to Class 6 or Class 9 of a Sainik School? This article provides complete information on the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Exam (AISSEE), which is a mandatory exam to get admission to Class VI and Class IX at a Sainik School. Details of the age and other criteria, the AISSEE-21 exam paper format, exam fee, and online application procedure have been provided.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued the schedule for the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Exam 2021 (AISSEE-2021) for admission to Class VI and Class IX in over 30 Sainik Schools in India for the academic session of 2021-22. All the Sainik Schools are under the management of the Sainik Schools Society (SSS), which is under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence, Govt of India. The CBSE English medium residential Sainik schools focus not only on quality education but also on preparing cadets to enroll at various Officers' training academies of the Armed Forces, including the National Defence Academy and the Indian Naval Academy. Some of the schools have horse-riding, swimming and rifle-shooting facilities. Other than mandatory NCC training, adventure activities may be scheduled as well. A list of Sainik Schools has been provided at the end of this article for quick reference.

Based on the scores in AISSEE-2021, the candidates will be eligible for admission, with the final selection based on school-wise, class-wise, and category-wise rank in the merit list. Selected candidates must also be medically fit as per the approval of a competent Medical authority and verification of original documents will be essential for getting admission. Note that a candidate can apply for admission to only one Sainik School.

Eligibility requirements for admission to Sainik Schools

For admission to the academic year 2021-22, the age criteria is as follows-
  1. For admission to Class VI: The child should be between 10 and 12 years as on 31 March 2021, that is, born between 01 April 2009 and 31 March 2011 (both days inclusive).

  2. For admission to Class IX: The child should be between 13 and 15 years as on 31 March 2021, that is, born between 01 April 2006 and 31 March 2008 (both days inclusive).

Educational qualification for Class IX only: The student should have passed Class VIII exam from a recognized school at the time of admission.

Important note: Admission to Class VI is open for both boys and girls, but admission to Class IX is not open for girls.



AISSEE-2021 exam format

The entrance exam will be held at 181 centres across India (refer to the official notification for the complete list). For admission to both, Class VI and Class IX, the exam mode is Paper pencil on OMR answer sheets with Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). There will be no negative marking for an incorrect answer. For Class VI, the exam paper is available in the following languages – English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odiya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. For Class VI, however, the paper is in English medium only.

For Class VI, there are four sections with the total marks of 300: Mathematics (50 questions with three marks for each correct answer), Intelligence (25 questions with two marks for each correct answer), Language (25 questions with two marks for each correct answer), and General Knowledge (25 questions with two marks for each correct answer).

For Class IX, there are five sections with the total marks of 400: Mathematics (50 questions with four marks for each correct answer), Intelligence (25 questions with two marks for each correct answer), English 25 questions with two marks for each correct answer), General Science 25 questions with two marks for each correct answer), and Social Science 25 questions with two marks for each correct answer).

Passing the exam: You need to score minimum 25% marks in each subject of the exam, and 40% marks in aggregate of all the subjects of AISSEE 2021. Admission, though, will be on the basis of relative merit (in AISSEE) of the candidate in the category in the school opted for, as well as medical fitness and verification of requisite documents. There is no minimum marks' requirement for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes.

AISSEE-21 Application procedure

A candidate can apply for AISSEE 2021 in the online mode only at the AISSEE-21 NTA website. Before applying, it is advisable to go through the information bulletin to know of the vacancies in the relevant category in the school and that you fulfill the eligibility requirements. Also, ensure that you scan and keep ready the required documents for uploading during the online application process. During the online application, double check that you have selected the school, class and the exam city correctly.

Documents required to be uploaded (originals and copies will be required for later verification procedures)-
  1. Passport size Photograph with a white background (file size 10 kb to 200 kb in JPG or JPEG format) must be taken on or after 1st July 2020, preferably indicating clearly the name of candidate along with the date of taking the photograph. Do not upload a Polaroid or computer-generated photo. Keep extra copies of this same photo, as it will be required later for the attendance sheet at the exam centre and for admission to the Sainik school.

  2. The complete signature which should be in running handwriting and not in capital letters on a white paper with a black ink pen (file size between 4 kb to 30 kb in JPG or JPEG format.

  3. The left hand's thumb impression on white paper with blue ink (file size between 10 kb and 50 kb in JPG or JPEG format).

  4. Domicile certificate, and Caste certificate or Service certificate or Transfer certificate (whichever are applicable) that is issued by the competent authority (file size must be between 100 kb to 500 kb in JPG or JPEG format). Note that If domicile certificate of the candidate is not available, the domicile certificate of the parent may be uploaded.

  5. The date of birth certificate issued by the Municipal Committee/Board/Corporation or Registrar of Births and Deaths (file size must be between 100 kb to 500 kb in JPG or JPEG format). Misplaced the birth certificate? Learn how to apply for a duplicate birth certificate

Exam fee: The exam fee is Rs.550/- for General/Wards of Defence personnel and ex-Servicemen/OBC(NCL) and Rs.400/- for candidates of Scheduled castes/Scheduled tribes. This fee should be paid online using SBI/ICICI Bank/Paytm Payment Gateway through Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking/UPI. It is advisable to download and take print outs of the confirmation page after successful remittance of fee for future reference.

On successful submission, take a print out of the completed Application Form (confirmation page) for your own reference. The unique registration number that is generated should be given in case of any queries later. Additionally, you can take assistance for the online application process from the nearest Common Services Centre (CSC), a list of which is available at https://www.csc.gov.in/.



Rules and regulations at AISSEE-21 exam centre

You must report at the exam centre allotted to you (and not at any other centre), at the time indicated on the Admit Card. The Admit Card will be available at the official website about 15 days prior to the exam. Be punctual as there are security and verification processes to be completed before you appear for the exam and the centre will be opened two hours prior to the exam for this. The reporting time is 8 a.m. and the last entry will be permitted up to 9.30 a.m.

Other than the Admit Card, you must take with you to the exam centre one passport size photo (this should be the same as the photo uploaded for the online application form) and any one of these authorized photo IDs (this must be original and valid) - School ID card/PAN Card/Passport/any other valid photo ID issued by the Government.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, you will be provided with a face mask which you must wear while appearing for the exam. You are permitted to carry a hand sanitizer (50g), but check the list of items that are not permitted to be taken inside the exam centre.

AISSEE-21 Schedule of important dates

Online submission of application form: 20th October 2020 to 19th November 2020, up to 5 p.m.
Last date to submit fee online: 19th November 2020, up to 11.50 p.m.
Correction of details, if any, in the application form: 23rd November 2020 to 29th November 2020.
Downloading of Admit Cards from NTA website: 23rd December 2020 (this is a tentative date).
Date of AISSEE-21 exam: 10th January 2021 (Sunday).
Time of AISSEE-21 exam: For admission to Class VI: From 10.00 am to 12.30 pm; For admission to Class IX: From 10.00 am to 1.00 pm.
