How to apply for FTII Pune online weekend basic course in writing screen dialogues and scenes


Want to build your career as a screen writter in the TV or film industry? Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune is giving an opportunity through a short time online course. Go through this article to know about the course details, including eligibility, fee, admissions, application dates etc.

An academic institute under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Indian Government, Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune is going to conduct an online weekend course in writing dialogue and scenes for screen. The course will be organized by the institute's Vijay Tendulkar Writers' Academy (VTWA).

Why to join this course

The course is helpful to those who are interested to learn screenplay that incorporates around 50 scenes with powerful dialogues. This course will teach you some classic techniques to write a memorable dialogue and powerful scenes. You will know the 'Unsaid impact', how to distinguish dialogue and conversation, text and sub-text, words and pictures, wit and humor etc. You will also learn to craft a dramatic scene including the structure, type and the purpose of scenes through this course. Also, this online short certificate course will enhance your skill to create suspense, tension and anticipation. You will even be able to bring humor to the scene. Moreover, a participation e-certificate will be provided to all the selected candidates on completion of the course successfully with minimum 90% attendance.

Dates and timing of the classes

The online 4 days classes will be held on weekly basis only on Saturday and Sunday. It will be organized on 21st - 22nd November and 28th - 29th November 2020 from 11.00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Eligibility criteria

Educational qualification

Interested candidates should be 12th standard HSC passed. However, 10th passed candidates may also be considered in exceptional cases. In addition, candidates must be computer literate and capable to take online classes.

Age limit

Candidates must be at least 18 years old as on 1st November 2020.



Number of available seats

Number of total participants is a maximum of 25 out of which 7 seats are reserved for the applicants of the previous batch scheduled from 10th to 18th Oct 2020. However, if the number of participants is less than 20, the course may not be conducted. The selection will be based on a first-come-first basis. An e-mail will be sent to all selected participants as well as a list of selected candidates will also be published on the official website of FTII.

Fees

A course fee of Rs. 7,200/-, including GST, is required for Indian nationals whereas Rs. 21,600/- including GST is to be paid by Foreign nationals including NRI, OCI etc. Fees submitted by all non-selected participants will be refunded within 7-10 days from the course commencement date. However, fees of selected candidates will not be refunded, transferable or adjustable at any cost. Fees should be paid through online SBI collect along with the application form.

Application procedure

  1. Go to https://www.onlinesbi.com/sbicollect/icollecthome.htm or www.onlinesbi.com
  2. Click on "SB Collect" available at top left corner.
  3. Tick the checkbox and click on "Proceed".
  4. Select "All India" and "Educational Institutions" against "State of Corporate / Institution" and "Type of Corporate/ Institution" respectively and click on "Go" then
  5. Select "FTII Fees Account" against "Educational Institutions Name" and click on "Submit"
  6. Select "B4 Basic C. in Writing Dialogue Scenes for Screen" against "Payment Category". A new list will be opened.
  7. Fill up the form with authentic data and click on "Submit"
  8. You will be directed to the payment page
  9. Make payment as suits with you based on your nationality
  10. Note down "SBcollect Reference Number" as furnished in payment confirmation receipt after payment of fees for further reference, if needed. Alternatively, store a soft copy of the receipt


Important notes

"Google Classroom" will be used as the online platform to conduct the course. Accordingly, all participants must get familiarized with the same before commencement of the course. The login ID, password and all joining procedures to this online class will be provided through the selection email shared with all selected candidates.

Now let's have a look at the requirements to participate in this online class:
  • Desktop or laptop should have at least 8 GB RAM, processor (at least Intel i3) with 1.6 GHz or more.
  • Operating system should be of Windows 7/8/10 or MAC OS Sierra or advanced
  • Latest versions of VLC player or Windows Media Player or Quick Time Player shall be required
  • Quality headphones/ earphones with mic
  • HD webcam of good quality
  • Minimum 5 GB internet pack per day with a minimum speed of 10 Mbps is essential for this course.
  • Latest version of Google Chrome is preferable for web browser. However, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari are also acceptable.
  • Note: Candidates will not be allowed to join the course if a mobile phone is used in place of computer/laptop.




Last date of submission of application: Online application along with payment of fees must be submitted by 6:00 p.m. on 9th November 2020, beyond which no application will be considered.

This seems to be a unique course by FTII, Pune. There are many students who have interest in these type of engagements and it appears that this is a quite good course to learn the art of dialogue and screen writing. Today there is a big unemployment situation in the country and such practical courses would definitely be helpful for the interested students in making a career in the related field.
