Apply online for State Level National Talent Search Exam 2021 by WB Directorate of School Education


Going to appear in the 10th standard examination in 2021? Want to prove your talent all over West Bengal? Read this article and apply for the state-level NTS examination 2021 to showcase your superiority.

Online applications are being asked for the state-level National Talent Search Examination 2021 by the Directorate of School Education, West Bengal announcing a notice. Detailed information regarding the notice is provided here.

Eligibility criteria

  • Students who are studying in class X of any recognized school in West Bengal affiliated under W.B.B.S.E./W.B.B.M.E./I.C.S.E./C.B.S.E and scored at least 50% in the final exam of class IX may apply online for NTSE 2021. 50% mark is required for General/EWS candidates whereas 40% mark is sufficient for those who belong to S.C / S.T / OBC (as per Central Govt. norms) / Physically Disabled Candidates.
  • With above mark in the pre-10th level students who are registered under Open Distance Learning (ODL) under NIOS or the West Bengal Council of Rabindra Open Schooling may also apply for the exam. But the age of the students should be below 18 years as on 1st July 2020. Additionally, they should not be employed and this is the first time they are going to appear to the 10th standard exam. The coordinator or authorized person of any study center under ODL mode have to authenticate all required particulars of the candidates along with approval number, code etc. of the Study Centre.
  • Certificates of EWS must be submitted by the relevant candidates otherwise they have to apply as a General category candidate
  • OBC candidates who belong to the OBC category of Central List and are under Non-Creamy Layer of income group (as per Central Government norms) as well, will be treated as OBC applicant for the exam and scholarship too. Alternatively, those who do not fulfill the above criteria should appear for the exam as a General category candidate.




Exam pattern and syllabus

Total two tests namely Mental Ability Test and Scholastic Aptitude Test will be conducted in two different sessions of 120 minutes each on a single day. There will be 100 questions of one mark each in each test. All the questions will be of objective type without any negative mark.

The NTS exam doesn't have any particular syllabus. However, the standard of question will be as per the standard of class IX and X. The Scholastic Aptitude Test will be based on the following subjects:
  1. Mathematics
  2. Physics
  3. Biology
  4. History
  5. Geography
  6. Political Science
  7. Economics

How to apply online

  1. Interested candidates have to visit at www.scholarships.wbsed.gov.in.
  2. Click on the link of 'New User Register Here'.
  3. Fill up your personal details along with a valid mobile number and register.
  4. Note down the generated registration number along with the password given which will be required to login to the system in future.
  5. Log in with relevant registration number and password
  6. Fill the form in
  7. Upload scanned pory of photograph in jepg / jpg format with maximum size of 20 KB
  8. Save the form. It may not be edited once you lock
  9. Lock the application form
  10. Print out of filled-in form and the certificate format for the certification by the Head of the School/ Institution (HOI) should be taken
  11. Collect the certificate in printed prescribed format duly signed and with official seal from the Head of the School/ Institution (HOI) where you are studying
  12. Upload the scan copy of the following documents duly authenticated by the concerned school authority with individual size of 100KB:
    1. Certificate from HOI
    2. EWS Certificate issued by the Competent Authority, if any
    3. Cast certificate issued by the competent authority, if applicable
    4. Disability certificate (40% or more) certified by the competent medical board of the state / central govt., if applicable
    5. In case of OBC candidates under non-creamy layer, certificate against parental gross yearly income issued by competent authority for the time period between 01.04.20 - 31.03.20 should be submitted.
      1. Employer certificate is required for the salaried employees of either government or semi-govt. or govt. aided organization / institution
      2. Income certificate is needed for other than salaried persons. The certificate should be obtained from a competent authority having minimum rank of Joint BDO or Executive Officer in case of corporation / municipality area.
  13. Click on 'Finalise application'
Note: Registration of online application will not be completed until the certificate of head of the school / institution along with other said documents are uploaded.



Important notes

  • Check your e-mail as provided during registration od application on regular basis to know acceptance or rejection of his/ her application
  • Applicants should choose only the district where their school is located, during application form fill-up
  • There are another two educational districts in addition to 23 administrative districts in West Bengal which are Barrackpore and Siliguri. Accordingly, applicants from a school in Barrackpore or Bidhannagar (Salt Lake) sub-division, should not choose Kolkata or North 24 Pgs instead of Barrackpore. In a similar way, applicants from a school under Siliguri sub-division, must not apply for Darjeeling.
  • In case any false information is found, applications may be rejected at any time without showing any reason
  • Application may also be canceled in case any incomplete / irrelevant info / photo / documents are submitted during application

Dates to remember

  • Online applications will be available to register since 05.11.2020 to 01.12.2020.
  • The state level National Talent Search Examination 2021 will be held at various centers accross all over West Bengal on 17th January 2020
  • Date of downloading admit card will be informed later in the official website
