Class IX vacant seats available at Jawahar Navodya Vidyalayas for 2021-22 admissions


Seeking admission to JNV Class 9? The Navodya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has issued a notification on the availability of vacant seats for Class IX for 2021 to Jawahar Navodya Vidyalayas in India. This article provides complete information about the 2021 Class 9 JNV admission schedule, the eligibility criteria, the selection test format and the admission procedure.

Navodya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) invites applications for admissions to Class IX against vacant seats in Jawahar Navodya Vidyalayas for the academic session 2021-22. The online procedure to apply for the admission is open from 4th November 2020 to 15th December 2020. There will be a selection test, scheduled in the month of February 2021.

Unique features JNV schools

Jawahar Navodya Vidyalayas are CBSE-affiliated co-ed schools under the management of NVS, which is under the aegis of the HRD Ministry, Department of School Education & Literacy, Government of India. Residential accommodation for boys and girls are available on the campus and many of the JNVs have gym facilities and computer labs. Some of the schools have set up unique museums to displace cultural aspects of the region. Co-curricular activities include sports and games, yoga, Scouts & Guides, etc. Outdoor activities like camping and rock climbing are scheduled through NCC. Since the last 15 years, the Adolescence Education Programme (AEP) in JNVs provide additional valuable skills such as leadership skills and encourages gender equality. Students are also expected to study for a year in a JNV in another region to expand their horizons and understand the cultural traditions of that region.



Academic results of students appearing in Class 10 and 12 exams have been good with focus on quality education to enable students to also prepare for major engineering exams like JEE. Statistical data shows that 43.53% of JNV students qualified for the JEE-Main 2020 exam. In the 2019-20 Class X academic result, the pass percentage is 98.66, while for Class XII it was 98.70. Commendable!

JNV school fee

Students can avail of free education, Board and lodging at a JNV institute. However, for students of Classes IX to XII, a small fee of Rs.600/- is charged as as Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi (VVN). In the case of students who are wards of Government employees, the fee is Rs.1500/- per month. There is no fee for students belonging to the categories of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and also no fees are charged for students whose family income is below the poverty line (BPL). Girls also do not have to pay any fees.



Eligibility requirements for Class IX JNV admission

Educational Qualification

You should be a student of Class VIII in the academic session 2020-2021 in a Government school or a Government-recognized school in the same district where the JNV to which you seek admission is functioning. Additionally, you must pass Class VIII in the academic session 2020-21 from a Government school or a Government-recognized school in the district where you are seeking admission.

Age criteria

You should be born between 1st May 2005 and 30th April 2009 (both days inclusive.) This is applicable to all categories of candidates, including students of SC and ST categories.
Note: If required, NVS may refer a student to a Medical Board to confirm the age in case a doubt arises about the age on the basis of the certificate produced by the student before giving admission to Class IX.

How to apply

First you need to register at the official NVS website. You do not need to pay any fee for registration and there is no fee for the application form.

Important dates

Registration for online admissions starts on 4th November 2020.
Last date to submit application for admission: 15th December 2020.
Date of the selection test: 13th February 2021 (Saturday).

Selection test format

The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) will be held the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya of the respective district or any other centre as allotted by NVS.
JNVST is of two and half hours' duration from 10 a.m. to 12.30 noon (no breaks) and to students with special needs (Divyang candidates) will get an extra 30 minutes on producing a certificate from the official authority.

The test paper is in English and Hindi. The questions will be of objective type only. Subjects: English (15 marks), Hindi (15 marks), Mathematics (35 marks) and General Science (35 marks). The difficulty level of the test paper is of Class VIII. Refer to the official notification to know the syllabus on which each subject's questions are based. A few sample test papers are also included in the notification.



After the result

The result of the selection test will be displayed on the JNV notice board as well as at the official JNV website. If your name is on the list of selected students as per the merit list, you have to go to the JNV for which admission was sought and produce all the relevant certificates. This includes the birth certificate, the pass certificate of VIII class with mark sheets and SC/ST/OBC certificate that has been issued by a competent authority, if applicable.
