About DSU

Dayananda Sagar University (DSU) was founded by Late Sri Dayananda Sagar in the early sixties under the Act of the Karnataka State in 2014. The University was established to fulfil the requirement of quality higher education and research. The University was started with only four students but now the number of students are more than 17,000. At present, DSU has five campuses operating under the aegis of the Mahatma Gandhi Vidya Peetha Trust, Bengaluru. DSU us serving as a global education hub and having talented teaching staff. The University has well-equipped laboratories, high te h lecture rooms, vast libraries and computer centre. Hostel facilities are also available for the students.

About the School of Basic and Applied Sciences (SBAS)

The School of Basic and Applied Sciences (SBAS) of Dayananda Sagar University offers several courses in basic and applied sciences subjects like Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Genetics or Human genetics. SBAS offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The School of Basic and Applied Sciences, Dayananda Sagar University has opened admissions for the session 2020-21 and has invited applications.

B.Sc. Programs

1) B.Sc in Biotechnology, Biochemistry & Genetics

Intake Capacity: 60

Duration: 3 years (6 semesters)

Eligibility: The candidate should passed 10+2, American 12th grade, A-Level, IB or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and English with Biology or Biotechnology or Mathematics or any other Life Science as an optional subject. He/she must secure at least 45% marks in aggregates in Physics, Chemistry and any of the optional subject.

2) B.Sc in Biotechnology, Chemistry & Microbiology

Intake Capacity: 60

Duration: 3 years (6 semesters)

Eligibility: The candidate should pass 10+2, American 12th grade, A-Level, IB or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and English with Biology or Biotechnology or Mathematics or any other Life Science as an optional subject. He/she must secure at least 45% marks in aggregates in Physics, Chemistry and any of the optional subject.

3) B.Sc in Microbiology, Genetics & Biochemistry

Intake Capacity: 60

Duration: 3 years (6 semesters)

Eligibility: The candidate should pass 10+2, American 12th grade, A-Level, IB or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and English with Biology or Biotechnology or Mathematics or any other Life Science as an optional subject. He/she must secure at least 45% marks in aggregates in Physics, Chemistry and any of the optional subject.

Postgraduate Course

1) M.Sc. Biochemistry

Duration: 2 years (4 semesters)

Eligibility
  • The candidates must have a degree in B.Sc. with any of the Life Science subjects such as Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Microbiology, etc.
  • He/she must have secured at least 45% marks in B.Sc.
  • It is mandatory that the candidate must have studied Chemistry or Biochemistry as one of the cognate subjects at B.Sc. level.
  • The candidates who have passed or any of the courses with 45% in aggregate such as Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bachelor in Agriculture, Bachelor in Nursing, Bachelor in Engineering (Biotechnology), Bachelor in Veterinary Sciences are also eligible to apply for the M.Sc. Biochemistry course.


2) M.Sc. Biotechnology

Duration: 2 years (4 semesters)

Eligibility
  • The candidates who wish to take admission in M.Sc. Biotechnology must possess B.Sc. Degree in any branch of Life Sciences with 45% marks in aggregate of all optional subjects from any recognised University.
  • The students those who have passed B.Sc. Biotechnology or B.Sc. Biotechnology (integrated) with aggregate 45% marks are also eligible.
  • Students who have completed B.Sc. Honours in Biotechnology, Biology, Botany, Microbiology or Zoology with 45% marks in aggregate of all the optional subjects can also apply.
  • The candidates who have completed graduation from Agricultural Science, Dairy Sciences, Horticulture, Forestry, Fisheries, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering (Biotechnology), Medicine / Dental, Clinical Lab Techniques and Agricultural Engineering with aggregate 50% marks are also eligible to apply.


3) M.Sc. Microbiology

Duration: 2 years (4 semesters)

Eligibility
  • The candidate must have a Bachelor degree in any of the following branch of Life Science such as Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Botany, Genetics, Microbiology, Zoology from any recognised university.
  • The candidate must have secured at least 45% marks in aggregate of all optional subjects in B.Sc. honours and aggregate 45% marks in B.Sc. Biotechnology or B.Sc. Biotechnology (integrated) and B.Sc. Life Sciences.
  • The candidates who have completed graduation from Agricultural Science, Dairy Sciences, Horticulture, Forestry, Fisheries, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering (Biotechnology), Medicine / Dental, Clinical Lab Techniques and Agricultural Engineering with aggregate 50% marks are also eligible to apply.


4) M.Sc. Human Genetics

Duration: 2 years (4 semesters)

Eligibility: The candidates must have passed a B.Sc. degree with any of the following life science subjects such as Genetics, Zoology, Botany, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Anthropology, Anatomy, Physiology, etc. The candidates those who have a degree in Medical Sciences, Nursing Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences can also apply.

Admission Criteria

Admission will be based on the above-mentioned eligibility criteria. However, the eligibility criteria will be 40% for SC/ST candidates for admission in all the M.Sc. courses. Besides academic scores of Bachelor examinations, weightage for sports and other accomplishments will also be considered for admission.

How to Apply

The candidate must visit the official website of Dayananda Sagar University to check the official notification for admission 2020. To get admission at SBAS the candidate must follow the below-mentioned steps:
  1. First, the candidate must register himself on the website of DSU.
  2. The verify the email. Until enrollment is completed all the future correspondence will be done on the email ID submitted at the time of registration. The candidates will not be allowed to change in Email ID under any circumstances.
  3. Now fill the details online application form.
  4. In this step, the required documents must be uploaded.
  5. Payment of the application fee is to be done. Application Form Fee is Non-Refundable.

DSU Query Management System

In case of any query, the candidate must use the Query Management System of DSU (DSU-QMS) instead of direct email. For this, they must register using their email ID and verify it. Then the query category must be selected from the dashboard and submit after entering the query.
