University of Science and Technology Meghalaya PhD admissions 2021 January batch


The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has released the notification for admission to the Ph.D. courses for the January 2021 batch. This article gives all the important details including eligibility, application procedure, etc. Do read on for more details.

Introduction

The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) is the first state private university on science and technology in the entire North-East. Established through an act of the Meghalaya State Legislature, it is a recognized university that has been able to achieve a very good reputation in the region. USTM has recently released the notification for admission to the Ph.D. courses for the 2020-21 January batch. The various disciplines for which the Ph.D. courses are being offered are Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics, Geography, Mathematics, Biotechnology, Food Science and Technology, Botany, Zoology, Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, Computer Science and Electronics, Political Science, Sociology, Rural Development, and Education. Eligibility

  • The student must have completed the Master's degree in the respective subject with 55% marks from a recognized university. Candidates whose results have not been declared can also apply for admission. However, they have to provide the result/certificate of the qualifying examination before the last date for admission.

  • The minimum percentage criteria mentioned above are relaxable by 5% in the case of students belonging to the SC/ST/OBC/Minority category as well as for those working in the corporate sector.

  • The selection of candidates will be done giving 50% weightage to the academic records in the Master's degree and 50% weightage to performance in the entrance test and personal interview. However, candidates who have cleared NET/SLET can appear for the personal interview without requiring to appear in the entrance exam.

Application procedure

  • The interested candidates can apply both through the online mode and by visiting the USTM campus.

  • Those who want to apply online for the Ph.D. course should first visit the official website of USTM i.e. www.ustm.ac.in. There they have to click on the link "Apply online" on the homepage. Then after filling in all the required details, the candidate will have to pay the Application fee of Rs 2000 through net banking, debit card, or credit card. Then the candidate will receive an acknowledgment receipt on their registered email ID. This should be kept safely for future reference.

  • For candidates applying offline, first the Application form and the prospectus will have to be downloaded from the university website. Then all the relevant details will have to be filled in. Please note that incomplete forms will be summarily rejected.

  • Three recent passport size photographs should be affixed to the application form. Also, the form has to be duly signed by the applicant/parent/guardian. The application fee will have to pay in cash or DD of any nationalized bank drawn in favor of the "University of Science and Technology Meghalaya" payable at Guwahati. Finally, the filled up form will have to be submitted to the university campus at the following address:

Fee Structure

The fee structure of the Ph.D. course is as follows:
Ph.D. without lab work
  1. Admission fee – Rs 60,000

  2. Course work fee – Rs 8,000

  3. Caution deposit (refundable) – Rs 10,000

  4. Tuition fee (per semester) – Rs 55,000

  5. Thesis submission fee (at the time of submission of thesis) – Rs 50,000

Ph.D. with lab work
  1. Admission fee – Rs 60,000

  2. Course work fee – Rs 8,000

  3. Caution deposit (refundable) – Rs 20,000

  4. Tuition fee per semester – Rs 65,000

  5. Thesis submission fee (at the time of submission of thesis) – Rs 50,000

Admission schedule

  • Last date of submission of application form – 10 December 2020

  • Date of entrance test (to be held at the USTM campus through online mode) – 19 December 2020 (11 am)

  • Date of declaration of result of entrance test – 22 December 2020

  • Date of admission – 28 to 30 December 2020

  • Commencement of course work – 4 January 2021 onwards
