PhD admissions for January 2021 session at CSIR-CFTRI under University of Mysore

About CSIR-CFTRI

CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CSIR-CFTRI), Mysore is a leading national level institute set up by the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi. CSIR-CFTRI is a recognised institute for providing education and research opportunities to the students in science and technology. Currently, CSIR-CFTRI has released the notification for full-time doctoral programmes in Science and Engineering under the University of Mysore. Students can register themselves for PhD under Biochemistry, Bioscience, Biotechnology, Food Science, Food Technology, Food Science & Nutrition as well as Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and engineering etc.

Subjects offered at CSIR-CFTRI

PhD programmes are available in the following subjects:

Educational qualification

  1. Students who are willing to join a PhD program of the University of Mysore at CSIR-CFTRI must possess a degree in M.Sc. or M.Tech in a related field.
  2. He/she must have qualified any of the above mentioned national level fellowship exams and should have a valid fellowship.
  3. Project staff who is working as JRF or SRF at CSIR – CFTRI, Mysore can also apply for admission in PhD programmes. Provided that they should be working in a project of a minimum duration of 3 years with at least more than 2 Years of the project period remaining. They must have qualified NET/GATE exam. Further, their thesis work should be in line with the project under which they are working at present.

Detailed educational qualification for each department is as given below:

PhD (Sciences)

  • PhD (Biological Science): The candidates must have a Master's degree in Science or a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine for admission in PhD Biological Sciences. He/she should have a keen sense of scientific enquiry for pursuing advanced research in Biological Sciences. The candidate should have qualified any exam of National level fellowships such as CSIR-JRF or CSIR-SRF, CSIR-UGC, DBT, DST-INSPIRE or other equivalent fellowships and should have a valid fellowship.

  • PhD (Chemical Sciences): The candidates should hold a Postgraduate degree in Chemistry or core chemical sciences. The candidate should have qualified any exam of National level fellowships such as CSIR-JRF or CSIR-SRF, CSIR-UGC, DBT, DST-INSPIRE or other equivalent fellowships and should have a valid fellowship.

  • PhD (Physical Science): The candidates must have a Master's degree in Physics or closely related subject or a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology for admission in PhD Physical Sciences. He/she should have a keen sense of scientific enquiry for pursuing advanced research in Physical Sciences. The candidate should have qualified any exam of National level fellowships such as CSIR-JRF or CSIR-SRF, CSIR-UGC, DBT, DST-INSPIRE or other equivalent fellowships and should have a valid fellowship.

  • PhD (Mathematical Science): The candidates must have a Master's degree in Mathematics or a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology for admission in PhD Mathematical Sciences. He/she should have a keen sense of scientific enquiry for pursuing advanced research in Mathematical Sciences. The candidate should have qualified any exam of National level fellowships such as CSIR-JRF or CSIR-SRF, CSIR-UGC, DBT, DST-INSPIRE or other equivalent fellowships and should have a valid fellowship.

PhD (Engineering)

  • To be eligible for admission in PhD (Engineering), the candidates must have a Master's degree in Engineering/ Technology.
  • He/she should have a good academic track record.
  • Besides, the candidate should have qualified any exam of National level fellowships such as CSIR-JRF or CSIR-SRF, CSIR-UGC, DBT, DST-INSPIRE or other equivalent fellowships and should have a valid fellowship.

OR
  • Candidate with a Master's degree in Sciences must have a valid GATE score.
  • He/she should have a good academic track record.
  • Besides, the candidate should have qualified any exam of National level fellowships such as CSIR-JRF or CSIR-SRF, CSIR-UGC, DBT, DST-INSPIRE or other equivalent fellowships and should have a valid fellowship.

How to Apply

The candidates seeking admission at CSIR-CFTRI must visit the official website and check the official notification and read the instructions carefully before applying. The candidates should apply on the prescribed format and send the filled-in application along with the requisite documents to can send to the PhD Coordinator (Univ.) on the email ID.
The following documents are required to be emailed:
  • Soft copy of the application (one-page) mentioning the name, address, email, telephone, Mark secured in Degree, Category etc.
  • Scanned copy of mark sheet
  • Scanned copy of category certificate (If applicable)
  • Scanned copy of fellowship award letter.

Selection procedure

Selection for admission to PhD (Sciences) and PhD (Engineering) at CSIR-CFTRI, Mysore will be based on the performance in Aptitude tests/Interviews. Only short-listed candidates will be called. Candidates must visit the official website regularly for updates on dates of interview. Candidates must carry the original certificates at the time of the interview, please visit the CSIR-CFTRI web site for dates of interview.
Note: The candidates will have to make their arrangements for boarding and loading. CSIR-CFTRI, Mysore will not provide TA / DA for attending the Aptitude tests/interviews.

The last date to apply: Application for PhD admission at CSIR-CFTRI should be submitted on or before November 15, 2020.
