NIT Andhra Pradesh opens Admission to PhD and MS Programmes for December 2020 Session

About NIT Andhra Pradesh

National Institute of Technology (NIT) is established in the Tadepalligudem, West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh. It is a premier Institute and 31st institute among the chain of Government NITs. NIT has released a notification for Admission in PhD and MS (by Research) programs for December 2020 session. PhD programmes are available in both Full Time and Part Time modes. Half Time Research Assistantship (HTRA) is available to the full-time scholars who are admitted to PhD programmes in different departments.

At NIT Andhra, admission to PhD and MS programmes are available in the following modes:
  1. PhD Full-Time – With Stipend
  2. PhD (Full Time) – Project category
  3. PhD (Part-Time) - Sponsored
  4. PhD (Part-Time)
  5. MS (by Research)

Eligibility Criteria

  1. For PhD Engineering (Full-Time Programme)

    • For admission in PhD Engineering, the candidates should have a Master's degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master's degree by Research in Engineering/Technology in branches.
    • For UR/EWS/OBC-NCL category candidates, aggregate 60% marks or above or CGPA of 6.5 must be scored either at UG or PG level examination. While for SC/ST/PwD candidates, aggregate 55% marks or above marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 at UG or PG level are required.
    • The candidates must have qualified a national level exam, either GATE or NET exam in the relevant disciplines.
    • For admission in the Department of Biotechnology, the candidates having B.Tech. degree in any branch of Engineering and M.Tech degree in Bio-Technology are eligible. And for the Department of Chemical Engineering, the candidates who have B.Tech. degree in any branch of Engineering and M.Tech degree in Chemical Engineering are eligible to apply for PhD (Full-Time/ Part-Time) programmes.


  2. For PhD Programme in Engineering (Part-Time)

    Candidates seeking admission in PhD Engineering (Part-Time) must fulfil the following criteria:
    • To get admission in a part-time course, the Candidates should work in a reputed Research/Academic Institutions/Industries regularly.
    • He/she must have a minimum of two years of experience.
    • Candidates should hold a Master's degree in Engineering or Technology or a Master's degree by Research in Engineering or Technology.
    • UR/EWS/OBC-NCL category candidates must have at least 60% aggregate marks or CGPA =6.5 or above either at UG or PG level examination.
    • For SC/ST/PwD candidates, aggregate 55% marks or equivalent CGPA of=6.0 or above are essential either at UG or PG level.


  3. For PhD Programme in Sciences (Full-Time)

    • To be eligible for admission in PhD Sciences, the candidates must possess Master's degree in any relevant branch of Sciences with aggregate 60% marks or equivalent CGPA=6.5/10 or above either at UG or PG level examination for candidates from UR/EWS/OBC-NCL category. For SC/ST/PwD category candidates, an aggregate of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA of =6.0 or above is required either at UG or PG level.
    • Candidates should have qualified a National Level exam either GATE or UGC/CSIR-NET in relevant discipline.


  4. For PhD Programme in English (Full-Time)

    • To be eligible for admission in PhD Humanities, the candidates must possess Master's degree in English with aggregate 60% marks or equivalent CGPA=6.5/10 or above either at UG or PG level examination for candidates from UR/EWS/OBC-NCL category. For SC/ST/PwD category candidates, an aggregate of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA of =6.0 or above is required either at UG or PG level.
    • Candidates should have qualified a National Level exam (UGC-NET) in relevant discipline.


  5. For PhD Programme in Sciences (Part-Time)

    Candidates who wish to apply for admission in the PhD programme in Sciences (Part-Time) should fulfil the below-mentioned criteria:
    • Candidates applying for the part-time PhD programme in Sciences should work in reputed research organizations/ Academic Institutions/ Industries regularly.
    • Candidate must have a minimum of two years of experience.
    • He /she should have completed a Master's degree in a relevant branch of Science.
    • The candidates belonging to UR/EWS/OBC-NCL category must have aggregate 60% marks or equivalent CGPA =6.5/10 or above either at UG or PG level examination. For SC/ST/PwD candidates, 55% aggregate marks or above or equivalent CGPA of=6.0 is essential either at UG or PG level.
    • Candidates should have qualified a National Level exam either GATE or UGC/CSIR-NET in relevant discipline.


  6. For PhD. Programme in English (Part-Time)

    Candidates who wish to apply for admission in the PhD programme in English (Part-Time) should fulfil the below-mentioned criteria:
    • Candidates applying for the part-time PhD programme in English should work in reputed research organizations/ Academic Institutions/ Industries regularly.
    • Candidate must have a minimum of two years of experience.
    • He /she should have completed a Master's degree in English.
    • The candidates belonging to UR/EWS/OBC-NCL category must have aggregate 60% marks or equivalent CGPA =6.5/10 or above either at UG or PG level examination. For SC/ST/PwD candidates, 55% aggregate marks or above or equivalent CGPA of=6.0 is essential either at UG or PG level.
    • Candidates should have qualified a National Level exam (UGC-NET) in relevant discipline.


  7. For PhD. Programme in Management (Part-Time)

    Candidates applying for admission in the PhD programme in Management (Part-Time) must fulfil the following criteria:
    • The candidates must be should work in reputed research organizations/ Academic Institutions/ Industries regularly with at least two years of experience.
    • The candidate must have a Master's degree in Management or MBA with aggregate 60% marks or CGPA =6.5/10 or above either at UG or PG level examination for UR/EWS/OBC-NCL category. For SC/ST/PwD candidates, 55% aggregate (or above) marks or equivalent CGPA of=6.0 are required either at UG or PG level.


  8. For M.S. (by Research) Programme

    Candidates looking for admission in M.S. (by Research) in Engineering or Technology must satisfy the criteria listed below:
    • Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology.
    • He/she must have a good academic record.
    • Candidates should be employed in a reputed research/Academic Institutions/Industries on Regular basis.
    • The candidate must have a minimum experience of two years.

Selection Procedure

Selection for admission in the PhD programmes (full-time/ part-time) and MS (by Research) will be based on the written test and/or interview.

Application Fee

The candidate will have to pay an application fee for each programme/ department/ school/ discipline through online mode. Application fee details are as follows:
  • For General Category Candidates: Rs. 500/-
  • For SC/ST/PwD Category Candidates: Rs. 250/-
