IAS, INSA & NASI open Applications for Summer Research Fellowship Programme 2021

About SRFP

The three National Science Academies viz. Indian Academy of Sciences (IAS), Bengaluru, Indian National Science Academy (INSA) New Delhi and The National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), Prayagraj offers Summer Research Fellowship to the students and teachers in India to work under the guidance of well-known scientists related to the academies. National Science Academies are inviting applications from eligible students and teachers for the Summer Research Fellowship Programme 2021.

Duration: The selected candidates will work with the assigned guide for two months.
The two-month fellowship can be carried out any time during the calendar year, preferably during summers.

Eligibility Conditions for Fellowship

Eligibility criteria for Students

The students applying for the fellowship should be enrolled in universities and colleges affiliated to UGC/AICTE and Institutions and Colleges of State Universities and must be studying in any of the following:
- BPharm/ PharmD - III and IV years only
- BS / BSc / BVSc - II year only
- BE / BTech / BCA - II and III years only
- BArch - II, III and IV years only
- MS / MSc / MVSc / MPharm/ ME / MTech / MCA / MArch - I year only
- Five-year integrated MS / MSc /MTech / MBBS - II, III, IV years only
- BTech + MTech (dual degree) – II, III, IV years only
- BE + MSc (dual degree) - II, III, IV years only
- BS + MS (dual degree) - II, III, IV years only
- Integrated PhD - I, II years only
- MSc Tech - I, II years only
The candidates applying for Summer Research Fellowship must have the minimum percentage of average marks in core subjects only excluding languages from 10th standard to post-graduation or qualifying degree should be 65 per cent or over for students.
Applicants who already have awarded the fellowship of Academies twice before are not eligible to apply.

Note: The students pursuing PhD will not be considered.

Eligibility Criteria for Teachers

The applicants must be teaching at a College or University.
The minimum percentage of average marks doesn't apply to the candidates applying for Summer Research Fellowship as Teachers.
Applicants who already have awarded the fellowship of Academies twice before are not eligible to apply.

Application Procedure

The candidates must read all the instructions carefully before filling up the online application and submission. Applicants must apply in the prescribed format through online mode only. To apply online, the candidate can visit official websites of any of the three Academies viz. Indian Academy of Sciences, INSA and NASI.

First, the candidate must log in to any of the official websites and fill and submit the application form. Upon submission of the online form, a registration number will be assigned to the application. The candidate must save the registration number for future correspondence. An asterisk (*) marked columns are mandatory and must be filled. There is no need to send hard copies of marks' sheets or applications to the Indian Institute of Science.
Note: One candidate can fill and submit only one application. In case of more than one application submitted by a candidate, none of the applications will be considered.

Research Write-Up

The applicant must prepare a write-up in around 150–250 words on the proposed work to be carried out during the fellowship period. The candidate should mention clearly in the write-up what he/she would like to learn and achieve through this fellowship. Further, details of the specific experiment or theory must be included in the write-up. The write-up must be written originally by the candidates and should not be copied and pasted from anywhere.

Required Documents

Candidates applying for the fellowship must keep the following documents ready before beginning to fill up this application. Both student and teacher applicants are required to upload scanned copies (JPEG format) of the marks sheets from class X until the last examination. The size of each scanned image should not exceed 700 kb.

Candidates (Students Only) must provide the contact information of one of their teachers or the Head of the Department (HoD), so that the Academy can contact with them to get the recommendation letter.

Teacher applicants must upload a copy of their publications if any. On selection, they will have to submit an authorization letter from the Principal/HoD mentioning the grant of necessary permission/leave of absence and should be sent to:

Cancellation of Fellowship

In case of any misleading or false information submitted by the candidate, his/her fellowship will be cancelled. In such cases, the candidates will have to pay back the fellowship amount/travel allowance etc. that's been paid to him/her. His/her guide/Institution will also be informed about this matter.

Important Dates

Announcement of Summer Research Fellowship: September 2020.
Submission Deadline: The final date for receipt of all applications online is 30 November 2020.
Intimation of Selection: The candidates will be informed about selection around February–March 2021.
