NIBMG PhD admissions 2021 for Biological Sciences Students

National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) is an autonomous institution of the Government of India at Kalyani, West Bengal. NIBMG is a leading institute of the country engaged in the research on biomedical Genomics and their implications in infectious/chronic disease and cancer research. Institute spread knowledge on human health by the latest genomics technology. Laboratories at NIBMG are equipped with all the facilities required for advanced research like DNA sequencing NGS platforms, Multiplex Elisa/ALPHA-LISA, FACS (cell sorter), low and high-resolution imaging facility, etc. NIBMG also provides research opportunities in computational biology and statistical genomics. NIBMG is inviting applications from suitable applicants to pursue doctoral research at NIBMG.

  2. Genetic determinants of infectious disease susceptibility and pathogenesis
    • RNA viruses
    • Sepsis
    • Intracellular protozoan parasites
    • Mycobacterium
  3. Statistical and Computational Genomics
    • Population structure
    • Variation and human evolution
    • Disease susceptibility
    • Response to drugs and vaccines
  4. Multi-omics Determinants of Complex disorders
    • Preterm birth
    • Disorders with sensory neurodegeneration
    • Autoimmune skin disorders and diabetic complications
    • Fatty liver

Eligibility Criteria

The minimal eligibility criteria for accepting students at NIBMG to pursue research leading to a Ph.D. degree are:

Category A
  1. The candidate seeking admission in the PhD programme must possess a master's degree in any discipline of Biological Sciences including Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Botany, Computer Science, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Statistics, Zoology or any relevant field.

  2. The candidates belonging to the General category must have secured a minimum of aggregate 55% marks at the master's level. There will be a relaxation in the percentage of marks for the candidates belonging to the reserved categories, as they only need to complete the Master's degree.

  3. To be eligible, the candidate must have qualified for any of the national level junior research fellowship such as UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DBT (category I only), NBHM, BINC, and must have a valid award letter of Research Fellowship at the time of interview. The candidate who has a provisional certificate of DST-INSPIRE DST are also eligible to apply. And the candidates with Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship or any other fellowship for the reserved categories are also encouraged to apply.

Category B
  1. The candidates must hold an MBBS degree or B.Tech degree in Biotechnology. He/she should have scored at least 55% marks in qualifying degree.

  2. Besides, they must have qualified for any of the national level junior research fellowship such as UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DBT (category I only).

  3. The candidates who have research experience whether summer training or any short-term course in biomedical sciences in any recognized lab will be given preference. However, this condition does not apply to the individuals belonging to reserved categories.

Seat Reservation

There will be a reservation in seats of 15% for the SC category, 7.5% for the ST category, and also 27% for the OBC (non-creamy layer) category. To claim reservation, the candidate should provide proof of certifications from relevant authorities before the interview.

Selection process

Selection of the candidates for Ph.D. programs will be based on the interview. For final selection, only short-listed candidates will be called for an interview.

How to apply

The candidates wish to apply for PhD programmes at NIBMG must visit the official website of NIBMG and check the eligibility before applying. The application must be applied online through the official application portal through the web-link: Please remember that applications submitted via any other mode except online mode will not be accepted. While applying online, the candidates must indicate their category in the online application, whether general or reserved category.

To apply online following step-wise procedure to be followed:

Step 1:Candidate must log in to the website through the link mentioned above and create an account.
Step 2: After registration, login to the account using login credentials and fill-up the form.
Step 3: After filling the form, please click on the "Save Draft & Preview" button.
Step 4: If satisfied with the filled details in the online application, please click on the "Submit" button.
Step 5: In this step, the candidates must save/print the PDF version of the online application form. The same must be carried out at the time of the interview.

Submission Deadline The last date of application submission is December 23, 2020 till 5 PM.

Date of Interview: Interview will be held in January 2021.
