The School of Transnational Governance (STG) at the European University Institute (EUI), Florence, Italy has announced applications open for professionals from around the world for the Policy Leader Fellowship for the academic year 2021-2022. Those who are currently involved with public policies, promoting policy change and policy innovation can apply, but it is not necessary to have EU citizenship to be eligible for the fellowship. Around 30 Fellowships are likely to be offered for 2021-22.About the STG Policy Leader Fellowship
Duration
There are two fixed terms for the Policy Leader Fellowship, one for five months and the other for ten months. Accordingly, when applying, you need to select the option- (i) For five months - September 2021 to January 2022; or February 2022 to June 2022. (ii) For 10 months - September 2021 to June 2022.
Fellowship Grant and reimbursements
The Policy Leader Fellowship is a fully-funded one, with a monthly grant of € 2,500 per month. Where considered eligible, a family allowance may also be offered, which includes a house allowance and for dependent children below the age of 26, with relevant documents being furnished to get this allowance. It is mandatory to disclose the receipt of other grants or salaries, if applicable, and the amount of the Fellowship will be fixed at a lower rate based on any additional income (relevant supporting documents will need to be produced for this).
You will also receive travel reimbursement for Economy class airfare for yourself only (not for family members) for your trip to Florence from the city where you are based, as well as for the return trip on completing the fellowship. First-class rail and travel by car will also be reimbursed on this basis. The maximum amount for travel reimbursement is up to €1,200 including both to and fro but does not include any expenses for Taxis.Insurance
You are expected to have adequate medical insurance coverage for your stay at EUI, for which you need to submit the required supporting proof. Alternatively, you can subscribe to the EUI's private sickness and health insurance scheme (Cigna) at your own expense. Who can apply for the STG Policy Leader Fellowship The eligibility requirements for the Fellowship are as follows-
Age criteria: There is no minimum or maximum age limit.
Academic Qualifications: You must have an M.A. Degree or an M.Sc. Degree which is the minimum educational qualification required, but this is not mandatory in the case of exceptional circumstances.
Professional Qualifications: You should be a professional in the early stages or mid-stages of your career, preferably in the fields of civil service, media and non-governmental organizations, business, public management, advocacy coalitions, and the like. It will be advantageous to be working on issues related to transnational governance.
Language Skills: Since English is the medium of instruction, you must have fluency in both, written and spoken English. How to apply

The list of documents required is as follows-
Academic Qualification: A copy of the highest educational certificate in PDF format only.
Curriculum Vitae (CV): This should be put in PDF format only. You are also required to give a short biography of around 100-120 words in the third person singular.
Letter of motivation: You need to prepare this in PDF format only of about 1000 words (a summary of this document of max.1000 characters is requested in the application form). It should include your association with transnational policy issues, your interests, future professional aspirations and the reasons to apply for the fellowship.
Work-plan: You need to prepare this in PDF format only of not more than 1500 words (a summary of this document of max. 1000 characters is requested in the application form). It should mention what your goal is, meaning what you are planning to accomplish during the fellowship, and details of the steps to reach that goal. You need to mention activities that will help you progress, potential partners and funding sources, the type of contributions to be made to the STG and EUI community, etc. Put this plan with clarity in a properly structured format with realistic goals.
Work sample: One to three samples of current engagement, such as a policy paper, an article, a write-up on social media, a blog piece, etc. which will indicate your interest and aspirations.
Note: For all the above documents, the instruction is to use standard international fonts and must be submitted in English only. Macros, special characters, password-protection, electronic signatures or logos must not be used at all.
Letters of References
You need to provide the name of one referee, preferably somebody who has worked with you and ideally a non-academic individual. The reference must be submitted online directly by the referee after he/she is contacted, which will be only after you have completed and registered the first step of the online application form. Hence, you must ensure that you provide the contact details of the referee as early as possible. No references will be accepted after the deadline.
Additionally, you are required to submit the name and contact details of one other referee whom the EUI may contact.
Important notes: The references should not be current full-time or part-time EUI professors or staff members. It is advisable (a) to contact the referee directly so that he/she knows your request, (b) to verify that he or she has received the email request from the EUI and (c) to ensure that the referee submits the reference at any time after you have submitted your application but definitely before the deadline. Registered referees may also submit the reference letter by email, contacting: ReferenceFellow@eui.eu.
The referee should also be instructed that the reference letter should be submitted in PDF format preferably in English, in standard international fonts, with no macros, special characters, password-protection, electronic signatures or logos. No hard copies of reference letters will be entertained.
