How to apply for the Pragati Scholarship Scheme for Girls 2020-21

About the AICTE Pragati Scheme

The Pragati Scholarship Scheme is being executed by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The scholarship aims to support girl students financially who are pursuing technical education at the degree or diploma level. The main motto of the scholarship is "Empowering Women through Technical Education". The scholarship will help to gain education and knowledge. It will boost their confidence and their technical skills will be developed.

Details of Scholarship

There are a total 5000 number of scholarship. The scholarship will be granted for a maximum period of 4 years for fresher candidates. However, the candidates who are in the second year of their academic courses and admitted through lateral entry will be eligible to receive scholarship amount for a maximum period of 3 years only. Amount of scholarship will be Rs. 50,000/- per annum for every year of study. The scholarship amount will be provided as a lump sum amount towards payment of college fee, laptop and software purchasing, stationeries, books and other equipment, etc. There will not be any additional grant for hostel and medical charges, etc.

Besides the 5,000 scholarships, all eligible girl applicants from the following 13 Union Territories and the North-Eastern States will be given scholarship: Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

Mode of Transfer of Scholarship

The Pragati Scholarship amount will be credited into the account of scholarship awardees after selection in the AICTE Pragati Scheme. The scholarship amount will be paid annually through direct benefit transfer mode.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Only girl candidates fulfilling the required eligibility criteria are eligible for the AICTE Pragati scholarship scheme.
  • The candidate should be in the first year or the second year of their degree/diploma course through lateral entry.
  • They must study in any of the AICTE approved Institution.
  • The gap period must not exceed two years between the passing year of the qualifying examination and the admission session in the degree course.
  • From a single-family, a maximum two girl child is eligible for the scholarship.
  • Family income of the candidates must not cross Rs. 8 Lakh per annum during the current financial year from all sources.

Reservation Policy

There will be seat reservation as per reservation policy of Government of India. In case of any reserved category vacant seats, the seat will be transferred to General category candidates.

How to Apply

The girl candidates who wish to apply for the AICTE Pragati Scholarship 2020-21 must visit the official website of National Scholarship Portal, Ministry Of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India and read the Guidelines carefully. Interested candidates can apply on the online National Scholarship portal. The candidate must have a valid email ID and mobile number for registration on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Following documents are required:
  1. Document/ certificate for age proof
  2. Bonafide certificate in the prescribed proforma, (In the case of the Students whose domicile state is different from the state of Institute/School, he/she is studying).
  3. Aadhar card
  4. Income Proof Certificate issued by the competent authority


Mode of Selection

Selection of the students will be based on the merit, which will be prepared by the short-listing of received applications of eligible candidates. Merit list will be prepared based on the percentage of marks obtained in the 10+2 or equivalent examination or qualifying examination to peruse the technical degree course from any of the AICTE approved institutions in the first year or second year through lateral entry. In case of ties, the higher percentage in 10th exam will be ranked higher and in case of further ties, the elder student will be ranked higher. For each State/UT, a separate merit list will be prepared as per the allotted number of scholarships. Further, the candidate's host institution will have to verify the online application. The second level of scrutiny/ verification of these applications will be done by the Department of Technical Education (DTE) of respective State/ UT.

Renewal of Scholarship

The scholarship is to be renewed every year. For scholarship renewal, the applicants will have to apply again for the next year of the study by submitting the passing mark sheet/ certificate along with a letter from the Head of the Institution on the National Scholarship Portal.
