About the Institute

XLRI or the Xavier School of Management is the oldest and one of the top business schools in India. The Fellowship Program

Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is a fulltime residential doctoral program offered by XLRI Jamshedpur to eligible postgraduate students. The program aims to train students in various aspects of management to help them achieve a bright career as researchers, educationists and innovative management thinkers. By opting for this program, prospective students may aim for a career with top academic institutions as faculty members. They may also seek positions that require great analytical skills, in premier research institutions in India and abroad.

Course Duration and Structure

The duration of the fellowship program is four years, divided into two stages. In the first stage, spread over two years, the students will be required to fulfil the course requirements or the course work. In these two years, the students will take up the various core and elective courses that will prepare them for the thesis work in the second stage. During this stage, the students are placed under the guidance of a Faculty Guidance Committee. The students will also have to clear an exam after completion of the course work and before taking up the thesis work.

The second stage involves thesis work on a suitable topic selected by the students on areas as diverse as Human Resource Management, Marketing, Finance, Economics, Organizational Behaviour, Information Systems, Strategic Management and a few more. A Thesis Advisory Committee will supervise the student to carry out the thesis work. On successful completion of the thesis, the student will be awarded the 'Fellow in Management of XLRI' title.



Fellowship Amount and Grants

The fellowship will be paid to full-time residential students selected for the Fellow Program in Management. It will be paid for a maximum period of four years. The fellowship amount is INR 25,000 per month for the first two years. For the third and fourth year, i.e. the second stage, the amount will be INR 30,000 per month. Add to it, the students won't have to pay any admission or tuition fees. Neither do they have to pay for the course material, library facilities or computer charges. In addition to the monthly fellowship, a contingency grant of INR 25,000 per annum is also paid to the students. During the third year, a grant of INR 20,000 for data collection is also payable to the students. The contingency grant is applicable for the entire period of four years.

From the third year onwards, students have the opportunity to work as 'Research and Teaching Assistant (RTA)'. For this work, they are paid an additional amount of INR 30,000 per course.

Fellow students attending national and international conferences after the successful completion of the first stage are reimbursed up to INR 2,00,000 for their expenses.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates aspiring to join the fellow programme need to fulfil any one of the following criteria.

  • A master degree in any discipline with at least 55% aggregate marks. Should also hold a bachelor degree with at least 60% marks. The bachelor degree should be of at least 3 years and done after 10+2 or an equivalent qualification. For SC/ST candidates a relaxation of 5% in marks is admissible.

  • Five/four years integrated master degree in any discipline with at least 55% marks in aggregate after a 10+2 or equivalent qualification. For SC/ST candidates, the minimum required marks are 50%.

  • A B.E., B.Tech or an equivalent degree with at least 60% marks in aggregate and two years of work experience in the relevant field. For SC/ST candidates, the minimum requirement is 50% marks.

  • Those with professional qualifications like CA, ICWA or CS with at least 55% marks may also apply. Relaxation of 5% in marks for SC/ST candidates.

The bachelor or master degree should be from a recognized university or educational institution in India.



Admission Process

Candidates to select one of the following three options to join the Fellow Program in Management.

  • Option 1: Candidates may appear for the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT). For the year 2021, XAT is to be conducted on January 03, 2021, throughout India.

  • Option 2: Candidates with a valid UGC JRF/NET or GMAT/GRE/GATE score can directly register for the program without appearing for the XAT. The above tests should have been taken within the last two years.

  • Option 3: Postgraduates from XLRI, IIMs, TIFR, ISI, TISS, FMS Delhi, IRMA, SP Jain School of Management, XIM Bhubaneshwar, MDI Gurgaon, Management departments of IITs and other similar such institutes can also apply for the program without appearing for the XAT. Such candidates should have a minimum CQPI of 6.00/8.00 or equivalent grades.

Based on the educational qualifications and other parameters, the candidates will be shortlisted and the final selection will be done based on a personal interview to be conducted at XLRI Jamshedpur.

Candidates seeking to appear for the XAT have to first register for the test by clicking on the option for registration through XAT. Non-XAT candidates to register through the option meant for such candidates.
