Kerala University is one of the famous Universities in India. The Centre for Geriatric Studies, Department of Psychology, University of Kerala is inviting applications from eligible candidates for the Post Graduate Diploma Course in Psychological Counselling(PGDPC) for the academic year 2021. The Department of Psychology was started in 1957 in the college campus located at Palayam and was later shifted to Kariavatom in 1968. The Department of Psychology functioning under Kerala University has conducted several conferences as well as research projects sponsored by agencies like NCERT, ICSSR, UGC and Department of Science and Technology. Some exhibitions for the general public have also been organized by this Department. The Department has a testing and counselling centre that helps the academic community and society. Besides, the department's learning disability clinic provides free service to school children with learning problems. The main aim of this 12-month course is to build professionally qualified as well as competent counsellors to provide quality counselling services to society. There will be a total of 50 seats in this course. The medium of instruction will be English and the classes will be conducted on Saturdays and Sundays only. The total Instructional hours will be 550 which includes 400 hrs theory and 150 hrs field placement. The other details are given below.

Is there any age limit?

No, candidates of any age can apply but they should have satisfied the eligibility requirements.

Eligiblity

Candidates with Bachelor's Degree in Psychology approved by the University of Kerala are eligible to apply for this course. But high preference will be given to candidates with a postgraduate degree in Psychology approved by the University of Kerala. Also, candidates who have studied at least one full paper (100 marks) in Abnormal Psychology/ General Psychology/Organizational Behaviour/ Social Psychology/ Developmental Psychology in their bachelor's degree are eligible to apply for this 12-month course.

Selection process

Canddiates will be selected based on the marks obtained for the qualifying examinations and following reservation policy.

Registration fees

Canddiates should pay the registration fee (Rs. 100/- ) through DD taken in favour of 'Center for Geriatric Studies' payable at SBI, Kariavattom.
