How to apply for CIMAP-JNU PhD admissions-January Session 2021

About CIMAP

CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP) is a multidisciplinary research laboratory set up by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. CSIR-CIMAP mainly focuses on the study of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) and conducts research on the leading areas of Agricultural, Biological & Chemical Sciences. The institute is engaged in the production of improved plant materials, R&D for MAPs, genetic improvement, cultivation of MAPs, herbal products and formulations, etc. Currently, CSIR-CIMAP is inviting applications from eligible candidates for admissions to PhD programmes-January session 2021.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for admission to PhD courses at CIMAP, candidates must have completed a Master's degree in Agriculture or Biochemistry or Bioinformatics or Bio-Medical Sciences or Biotechnology or Botany or Chemistry or Environmental Sciences or Life Sciences or Molecular Biology or Plant Sciences from any recognised university with at least 55% marks. There will be a relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ST/PH candidates.
Candidates must have qualified from any of the national level exams like CSIR-UGC NET or ICMR-JRF or DBT-JRF or JRF/SRF fellowship tenable at CSIR-CIMAP.

Application procedure

Candidates seeking admission to the PhD programmes of CIMAP-JNU must visit the official website of CIMAP. The candidates can apply by filling the online application form which is available on the website or can download the form from the link given at the end of this article. The candidates must attach all the academic mark sheets, certificates and proof of award of the fellowship. All the documents must be attached in a 'single pdf file' and must be emailed to hrd@cimap.res.in. Besides, candidates will have to pay a non-refundable processing fee. The processing fee must be paid via online payment in favor of the CSIR-CIMAP Account (Account No. 30267691783 and also IFSC SBIN0000125).

The details of processing fee are given below:
  • For General Category Candidates: Rs.500/-
  • For SC/ST/OBC/ PWD candidates: Rs.300/-

Selection Procedure

Selection of the candidates for admission to the CIMAP-JNU PhD programme for January session 2021 will be based on an interview. The interview will be conducted online via MS-TEAM as per following COVID-19 protocol. Online interview will be conducted at CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow. All the boarding/lodging and travel expenses incurred during attending the interview will have to be paid by the candidates as CSIR-CIMAP will not be offering any reimbursement of accommodation and travel expenses.

Enrollment in PhD Programme

All the selected students enrolled in the PhD programme at CIMAP-JNU will be awarded a degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Candidates will have to complete Pre-PhD courses with one core course and one optional course. The pre-PhD course will have 2 semesters that have to be completed in one year. The candidates will have to score Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA) 6.5/ 10.0 (for general & OBC category) and 6.0/ 10.0 (for SC/ST/PH). Upon successful completion of pre-PhD courses, students will get registered as a CIMAP-JNU PhD scholar and will work under the guidance of CSIR-CIMAP scientists.

Submission deadline: The last date to apply for the PhD programme of CIMAP-JNU is 11th January 2021.
