How to apply for Lady Tata Memorial Trust Mumbai Junior Research Scholarship 2021

About LTMT
The Lady Tata Memorial Trust (LTMT) was founded in 1932 by Sir Dorabji Tata in memory of his wife, who suffered and died from leukaemia. The trust provides scholarships to the scholars who are engaged in research on blood disease, especially leukaemia in various Indian universities and institutes and spent approximately one-fifth of its income on these scholars. The trust offers research grants to institutions for medical research in India for the alleviation of human suffering from blood diseases. The awards will be announced in August this year and are for the academic year from August to July. Advice for awards and grants are taken from an Indian Scientific Advisory Committee. Scholarships will be provided for 5 years, out of which JRS for 2 years and SRS for 3 years.A. Junior Research Scholarship (JRS)
Only fresher MBBS or MSc or M.Pharma or M.Tech students are eligible to apply for the Junior Research Scholarship (JRS). JRS will be provided to the scholars for two years from the joining of PhD in the institute as JR.B. Senior Research Scholarship
Upon successful completion of two years of Junior Research Scholarship, the progress of work done by the JR will be assessed by a 3-Member Doctoral Committee (DC) of the scholar's institution. The scholar will have to re-appear for a research presentation before the Trust's Indian Scientific Advisory Committee (ISAC). If found satisfactory, the scholar will be promoted as the Senior Research Scholarship (SRS) and receive an incremented scholarship for three years. Formation of the Doctoral Committee (DC)
Within three months of joining a Junior Research Scholar in the institute or University, a Doctoral Committee (DC) is appointed by the concerned Institute / University by the approval of the Indian Scientific Advisory Committee of the Trust. In the DC there will be 3 members including a Guide (Convenor), a faculty of Professor grade and another faculty working in related areas of science.Renewal of Scholarship
The scholarship will have to be renewed every year. At the end of the first year, the Junior Research Scholar will have to present the work done in brief before the DC and then submit the summary of work done and recommendations of DC to the website of the Lady Tata Memorial Trust online for renewal of Scholarship for next year. It has to be done by 31st July 2022. Besides, the Junior Research Scholar will also prepare an annual progress report and submit it online on the website of LTMT by 31st July 2022. Scholarships will get renewed if satisfactory performance will be reflected in the annual progress report.
Further, the JR scholar must complete all the formalities with the Trust for PhD registration within 9 months to 14 months from the date of joining, failing which the scholarship will get terminated.
After completion of two years of Junior Research Scholarship, the progress of scholars will be reviewed by the ISAC. The Junior Scholar will have to present a research presentation of work done and subject to the registration for PhD before ISAC. Continuation of scholarship for the third year as SR Scholar (SRS) will be recommended by the ISAC.
At the end of the third year, the progress of work done by the SRS will be reviewed by DC as well as ISAC, and based on their recommendation the scholarship will be continued into the fourth year. Now, the senior scholar will have to submit a progress report covering the summarized work of the previous 3 years and the plans for the fourth year.
At the end of the fourth year, the progress of work done by the senior scholar will be reviewed by the ISAC and recommended for the continuation of SRS for the fifth and final year.Benefits to the Scholars under JRS & SRS
The students selected for JRS will get a monthly scholarship of Rs.25,000/-, while after completion of two years as JR, the scholars will receive an incremented scholarship of Rs.35,000/- monthly for up to three years.
Besides, scholarship candidates will also receive house rent allowance (HRA) and contingency. House Rent Allowance (HRA) to the Students will be provided as per the rules of the Government of India. Students living in Metro cities like Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune, etc. And outside their permanent residence will be paid HRA@25% of the basic value of the scholarship, while those of the scholars living in other small towns or cities will be paid HRA@10% of the basic value of their scholarship. To claim the HRA, the candidate will have to provide proof of the rented accommodation like original rental receipts and rental agreement with the landlord. A certificate verifying the status of accommodation of the scholar along with the proofs is to be submitted by the institution. Please note that the candidates, availing hostel facility or accommodation facility of the institute, will not be eligible to claim HRA.
A contingency grant will also be provided to the scholars to maintain the expenses during the research and the studies.Eligibility Criteria

Important Note: The candidates who have finished their MBBS or MSc degree in 2018 and 2019 are eligible to apply only for the academic year 2021-22 for the JR award. How to Apply
The candidate will have to fill an application form online by visiting the official website of the Lady Tata Memorial Trust. The candidate must provide all the requisite details in the online application form. Besides, a processing fee of Rs.100/- (non-refundable) in the form of a Demand draft is to be submitted along with application form. the demand draft is to be made in favour of 'THE LADY TATA MEMORIAL TRUST' (Address: Bombay House, 2nd floor, 24, Homi Mody Street, Fort, Mumbai 400001). Scanned copy of the original demand draft must be submitted along with the online application form and original demand draft must be couriered to Trusts office. It must be remembered that applications submitted through any other mode or without a scanned copy of demand draft will be rejected.Selection Procedure
Selection of the candidates for awards will be based on the performance in the interview. The application received by the due date will be screened, and only shortlisted candidates will be called for a personal interview. Interviews will be held in July or August 2021 and interview call letters will be forwarded to the applicants by the last week of June 2021 or in the first week of July 2021. Thereafter, an intimation of selection for the award will be given to the students and their guides. On the announcement of the award, selected scholars will have to report to the respective Research Guide immediately.Important Dates
