How to Apply for Saksham Scholarship Scheme for Specially-abled Student 2020-21

About the Saksham Scholarship Scheme

Saksham scholarship scheme, an MHRD Scheme, is being executed by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). This scheme aims to encourage and support to specially-abled children who are pursuing technical education at degree or diploma level. The scheme will provide an opportunity to specially-abled young students to make a successful carrier by developing confidence and technical skills through technical education.

Details of Scholarship

No. of Scholarship: Saksham Scholarship Scheme is open to all eligible specially-abled students who are enrolled in the first year of Diploma level course or second year through lateral entry in any AICTE approved Institution.

Duration of Scholarship:
For diploma students: Scholarship will be granted for a maximum period of 3 years for fresher candidates. However, the candidates who are in the second year of their academic courses and admitted through lateral entry will be eligible to receive scholarship amount for a maximum period of 2 years only.
For degree students: Scholarship will be granted for a maximum period of 4 years for fresher candidates. However, the candidates who are in the second year of their academic courses and admitted through lateral entry will be eligible to receive scholarship amount for a maximum period of 3 years only.

Scholarship Amount: Amount of scholarship will be Rs. 50,000/- per annum for every year of study. A lump sum scholarship amount will be paid as an amount towards payment of college fee, stationeries, books, laptop and software purchasing, and other equipment, etc. Any other any additional grant shall not be provided towards the hostel and medical expenses, etc. To avail these benefits, no documentary proofs are required.

Mode of Transfer of Scholarship:The Saksham Scholarship amount will be credited into the account of scholarship awardee after selection in the Scheme. Payment of the scholarship amount shall be done through direct benefit transfer mode annually.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The scheme is for specially-abled students enrolled in technical courses.
  • The student applying for the scheme must have equal or more than 40% disability.
  • The candidate should be in the first year or diploma/degree or the second year of their degree/diploma course through lateral entry.
  • They must study in any of the AICTE approved Institution.
  • The gap period must not exceed two years between the passing year of the qualifying examination and the admission session in the degree course.
  • Family income of the candidates must not cross Rs. 8 Lakh per annum during the current financial year from all sources.

How to Apply

The candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria and wish to apply for the Saksham Scholarship Scheme 2020-21 must visit the official website of National Scholarship Portal, Ministry Of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India and read the Guidelines before applying. Interested candidates can apply on the online National Scholarship portal. The candidate must have a valid email ID and mobile number for registration on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The candidate's application submitted online must be verified online. Later, the second level of scrutiny of online applications shall be carried out by the Department of Technical Education (DTE) of respective State/ UT.

  2. Certificate of 10th (in case of the diploma) /12th (in case of the diploma)
  3. ITI certificate (In case of Lateral Entry for Diploma level)
  4. Diploma certificate (In case of Lateral Entry for Degree level)
  5. Bonafide Certificate in the prescribed proforma, (In the case of the Students whose domicile state is different from the state of Institute/School, he/she is studying)
  6. Aadhar Card
  7. Disability certificate (showing 40% or more disability) issued by Competent Authority
  8. Family Income Proof Certificate issued by the competent authority
  9. Bank Passbook
  10. Bank Mandate Form

Mode of Selection

Selection of the students will be based on the merit, which will be prepared by the shortlisting of received applications of eligible candidates. Merit list will be prepared based on the percentage of marks obtained in the 10+2 or equivalent examination or qualifying examination to peruse the technical degree course from any of the AICTE approved institutions in the first year or second year through lateral entry. In case of ties, the higher percentage in 10th exam will be ranked higher and in case of further ties, the elder student will be ranked higher. For each State/UT, a separate merit list will be prepared as per the allotted number of scholarships. Further, the candidate's host institution will have to verify the online application. The second level of scrutiny/ verification of these applications will be done by the Department of Technical Education (DTE) of respective State/ UT.

Renewal of Scholarship

The scholarship shall be renewed every year. For renewal, the scholarship recipient will have to apply again for the next year of the study by submitting the passing mark sheet/ certificate along with a letter from the Head of the Institution on the National Scholarship Portal. The candidates who fail to provide the passing certificate/mark sheet will lose the scholarship.
