Are you a student in Odisha looking for Government scholarships for PG courses in Science, Mathematics and Biotechnology? The Institute of Mathematics & Applications (IMA), Bhubaneswar has announced applications open for this year's scholarship scheme for students who are domiciled in Odisha and are taking admission to science, maths or biotech postgraduate programs. The branches for which the scholarship is available, the eligibility criteria and other details have been provided in this article.
Institute of Mathematics & Applications (IMA), Andharua, Bhubaneswar has announced applications open for the scholarship scheme for meritorious students who are residents of Odisha who are keen to pursue courses in the fields of Science, Mathematics and Biotechnology. The scholarship amount is given as a special grant to IMA out of the budget provision under the State Plan for State Council on Science & Technology, Science and Technology Department, Government of Odisha. At the time of posting this article, there was no indication of the final date for submitting the application for the scholarship.
About the scholarship
There are totally 232 scholarships on offer, of Rs.2000/- per month for the duration of two years or till the student completes the PG course, whichever is earlier. The scholarships will be given purely on merit, as per the result of a written test for it.

Domicile: You must be a permanent resident or domicile of the State of Odisha.
Educational Qualification: You should have passed the regular full-time Bachelor's Degree exam with first-class Honours or an equivalent exam from a Government-recognized college or institute or university in any branch of the list mentioned above.
Admission acceptance: You should have got admission to a two-year full time/regular Postgraduate course in any branch of the list mentioned above in any Government University or college or institution, including a Government-aided or autonomous college. Be very clear about the branch of study, as if you change your course of studies, the scholarship will be cancelled and you will have to refund the entire amount already given.
Note: Students who have taken admission to a self-financed PG course and those who have received financial assistance of any type from any other Government or other sources are not eligible for the scholarship. How to apply

Selection criteria
In order to qualify for the scholarship, you have to appear for a written test of three hours' duration with 60 questions. Out of these, 36 questions will be based on the subjects of the list of branches mentioned above, 12 for assessing English comprehension skills and 12 to assess reasoning/analytical aptitude. Four marks are assigned to each and one mark will be deducted for an incorrect answer. The date, time and venue of the written test will be decided by the Director of the Institute and displayed on the official website. You will receive the scholarship amount through two installments, the first on successfully passing the exam of the first year, and the second on successfully completing the final year exam. This amount is not handed over in cash but is directly remitted to your Savings bank account by the Director of the Institute of Mathematics & Applications, with an intimation of the same to the Head of the institute. Prior to doing so, the Director will be confirming with the Head of the Institute that you are indeed a student of that institute (you need to ensure that the prescribed format for this is duly countersigned by the Head of the institute with a seal along with the cover letter addressed to IMA).
It should be noted that while the scholarship will begin from the month in which admission is taken, you will not get the scholarship payment for the month in which the course of study has not started on or before the 15th of the month. Furthermore, you will not get the payment for the month in which the final exam has been terminated on or before 15th of the month. Your eligibility for receiving the scholarship payment for the second year is dependent on the annual progress report that is submitted in the prescribed format by the Head of the institute.
