The Chief Coordinator of National Entrance Screening Test (NEST)-2021 has released the notification of the schedule of NEST that will enable students to seek admission to the five-year M.Sc. Integrated Program in Basic Sciences for the academic session 2021-2026 at the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar and at the University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM–DAE CEBS), Mumbai. NISER is a unit of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed-to-be University within the Department of Atomic Energy and which will award the degree to the students who successfully complete the program at their institute. Those who complete the program at UM–DAE CEBS will be awarded the degree by the University of Mumbai.

Duration and type: Five years' integrated program in Biological, Chemical, Mathematical and Physical sciences.
Number of seats: There are a total of 200 seats at NISER for the academic batch of 2021-26, including for reserved seats for SC/ST/OBC/Divyangjan candidates as per the norms of the Central Govt. There are also two supernumerary seats reserved for eligible candidates from Jammu & Kashmir. At University of Mumbai –DAE CEBS, Mumbai, there are 57 seats (tentative) including those for reserved category candidates similar to that for NISER.
Scholarships: Once enrolled for the M.Sc. Integrated Program in Basic Sciences, you are eligible to receive an annual scholarship of Rs 60,000 through the DAE Incentive Scheme for Holistic Science Education and Augmentation (DISHA) program of Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. Recipients of the scholarship will also receive a grant of Rs.20,000/- per annum for a summer internship. Students who have been selected by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)-Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) program are endorsed for INSPIRE scholarship by both, NISER as well as CEBS.
Additional benefits: If you are a top performer at NISER and CEBS and secure overall grades that are above a certain threshold at the end of the program, then you can appear directly for the interview for admission to the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) training school.M.Sc. NEST-2021 Exam Format
The entrance test for the M.Sc. Integrated Program in Basic Sciences is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) in English only, with four sections in which all questions are in the Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) format. Each section has 50 marks with subject specific questions from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. An interesting aspect of NEST is that two questions in each section requires knowledge of science subjects of Class 10 level and are for testing your general scientific knowledge rather than specialised knowledge of the subject.

You have to register with a valid email ID and apply for NEST 2021 online on or after 24th February 2021.
After the initial step of filling in the personal information, submit the academic information, with details of the qualifying board exams of Class 10 and Class 12. Then select up to five exam centres (the list of cities where the centres are located is provided in the official brochure0. You also need to upload .JPG or .JPEG files of your passport size photo and of your signature (these should be cropped properly), with the scanned images not more than 80KB in size. In the last step of the online application process, make the online payment of the application fee. On successful submission, you should download and take a print out of the application summary page that appears on the screen for future reference.
